Posted in: Japanese parents afraid of stranger danger ban on saying hello in their condos See in context

Did you ask to help the person using polite Japanese ? Did you consider that they have sense of cultural pride. And, would not accept help from even another Japanese person.

You assume because it is different than your expectations ... there is some deep dark underlying cultural wrong that you need to fix. Take you head out of your social justice stuffed self righteous butt.

No - really ... Japanese culture is unique ... and who are you to judge Japanese people? ... did you grow up in Japan ... do you really truly understand the nature of why that person was in their situation?

Perhaps for a moment- the person was doing it out of self inflicted pride ... to show the community that they were willing to suffer for something in their own private life. Did such a possible consideration ever cross your pea sized brain ?

Regarding the condo saying to 'not great foreigners' ... do you think this is different in other countries? Do you think that there is not a sense of mind your own business in the USA ? ... or in say some of the Scandinavia countries? ...

Honestly - speaking ... Japan can be harsh to foreigners ... I have lived in my Apartment 18 mo and I just am able to say hello to some of the tenants. Truth is Japanese test your perseverance and character - then they open up ... is that bad ? ... Or do you expect to act like a happy soaking wet Golden Retriever with a stick you fetched from the pond ... only to be rewarded with a fresh little treat.

i think when a public figure pokes fun at himself - it is a good thing. When a conservative (and sometimes embattled [see all the neg political comments above]) can poke fun at himself, and sacrifice a bit of self conservatism for a good cause ... well heck ... THAT IS A GOOD THING.

And to those who say Mario is Italian ... yeah that is correct ... rewind to the Torino games ... but Nintendo is Japanese ... and boy they know how to make 'em.

Good for you Shinzo Abe !!!

North Eastern Pennsylvania - highest human bear mix in the world. Deaths are VERY rare. Why ? - know how to behave, culturally live close with them on a daily basis. Eating their food supply - is not too smart ... It is like taking away their candy. I am sympathetic for the loss of these two men. In this case Americans may be able to teach something here.

Obama - please stay home. What do you wish to accomplish by visiting Japan ? News Flash: ... "Japan is doing just fine without you" John Kerry didn't screw up anything when he came here. Can the US people hope for the same from you ? Japan does not 'need' and apology ... the Japanese government has said this clearly. And frankly, you of all people should not be the one to apologize. And, if you try and say your visit is to help solidarity with US in response to China's recent aggression ... well sorry, you won't be around when and if anything happens. Oh and Barack, when you visited in May 2011, there were street protests in Tokyo ... are you coming for an encore ? Obama - please stay home !

Alex Jones - quoted, "Chinese infiltration of NASA, set a New World Order software bug to ruin the satellite. This was done to hide the fact Builderburg, Illuminati and Climatologists have shown a link to sustainable energy through the coupling of plasma energy of black holes through subspace quantum coupling." Sounds plausible to me ...

Posted in: Japan prepares for release of tritium from Fukushima plant See in context

This is the largest release ever. It will be measurable world wide, as it will increase the global amount of tritium about 20% (rough estimate) in ocean water (just a guess). Holding up the beaker was political spin to say ... looks so little. But it is significant. The atmosphere produces 5.0 to 7.0 x 10^16 Bq, annually. This is 50-70 peta Bq. The plant will release 3.4 pete Bq. This is roughly 10% of annual atmospheric production. It will be measurable since it will be in the ocean. Since, the tritium in the atmosphere moves downwards into the ocean ... this will be a large spike in the oceans, as atmospherically produced tritium decays on the way down. I guess from a human exposure standpoint, it is a low risk proposal, but the effect on the marine ecosystems, is not so easy to predict. This is a sad situation ... no matter how you look at it.

Apologies before you read this .... Charm on about Star Wars VII all you want, but it is a really bad scifi movie. It was a populist play, by JarJarAbrams and Disney for return on investment.

It was not true to the vision of Lucas (he admits by saying - selling off his 'kids to the white slavers'), and even Mark Hamill is mildly mocking it (#StillNoDialogue #RianHasMoreLinesThanMe).

I won't be silent - I love StarWars, but VII is a plot hole riddled, nostalgic dribble pool, copy rip-off of eps IV.

Here is a real review - which is on the spot / hits the Mark right on the Hamill. https://youtu.be/FNAy7yCMyBw

Posted in: Mutations, DNA damage seen in Fukushima forests: Greenpeace See in context

If Greenpeace had it's way, all of Japan would be returned to nature, and only be populated by whales. Wait, now that would be whale mutants. I got it ... lets move some of the wolves living near Chernobyl into the Fukushima area ... it would work out great ... they are already conditioned for radiation living, and so they would eat the contaminated animals and control the run away 'glow in the dark' radiation rabbit syndrome. Oh and this is great, the presence of wolves would keep resettlement to low levels due to 'little red radiation riding hood' fears. It is interesting science about the butterflies. I think the research is useful, and understanding the event is good practice. But you know - GreenPeace is NOT a trustworthy organisation. Sorry.

Unscientific commentary ... "I think these fish suck up the dirt" ... what hogwash. And no - Fukushima, and Japan, has not ignored the issue. This is why there has been a very slow restart of the nation's reactors, and the TEPCO execs are going to jail. This guy is like a knowledge-less potato head speaking from a dish of fried onions. What a waste of journalism ... seriously. One word of advice ... DATA !

Posted in: Stop killer robots before it is too late, scientists tell Davos forum See in context

So - Hawking is making a recommendation ... awe fiddlesticks ... whatever. He can't be Einstein ... with the the infamous letter to Roosevelt ... yawn. I think the funny thing is that this is like saying "Stop gun violence, but oh by the way ignore that millions die from heart disease". You are like WHAT ? ... huh ? ... Here is the point: Davos is pointing to the obvious, Hawking is really not saying anything we already know, and honestly drone warfare is already here. Moreover, the autonomous controls that are present in drone technology is already doing what is said that should be banned above. So - this statement by Davos is nothing but bull. The fact of the matter is this, if there is a better mousetrap for warfare, it will be developed. It is human nature. Look at history and realise that it is inevitable. Chemical warfare has been waged in the last 10 years. So if naiveté pushes you to think that this technology will NOT be developed ... I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell.
