Shaken for car older than 5 years, on a yearly basis, will take 130,000 yen from your pocket. I have 9 yo Audi A3, less than 100,000 km. And that money was just for oil replacement / other fluids and couple of hankos to get your permit. No wonder people get rid of cars. Not to mention: parking fees, highway tolls (60 km ride to Sapporo will cost 1000 yen), need for winter tires, etc).

I have been once in Chicago. Maybe 10 years ago. They only thing I remember was terrible breakfast in the hotel I stayed. I no longer remember the hotel name. Needless to say, I do not want to go there unless I must.
