If things continue the way they are and the number if people infected keeps increasing, no athlete in their right mind will want to risk exposure.

The Olympics is history, and good riddance too.

I’m sure she won’t be the last passenger who will test positive after disembarking. I wonder how she got home? Public transit ? Taxi? Family members picked her up? No matter, all of them will need to quarantine themselves.

Its beyond stupid how those passengers were just allowed to go home with no additional quarantine. Idiotic!!!!!!

This is literally scary now. And all could have been prevented or at the least, lessened if the inept Japanese government had acted more swiftly and strongly.

Good luck all!

The “I couldn’t buy any masks” excuse doesn’t hold water. My local pharmacy stocks them mostly every morning.

But you got to get up early, around 8am and stand in line to get them. Store opens at 9am. I paid 1000yen for a box of 65 masks .

If you go there at 10am, of course they’ll be sold out.

All it takes is a little effort to get your arse out of bed and wait in line, something that the dude claiming he had no masks wasn’t bothered to do.

Sounds like the beginning of the Apocalypse.

This is human nature at it's most basic and primitive levels. The want to survive overrides moral values. No level of education can fix this primitive instinct.

Now, just imagine if there was no police force or armies to keep people at bay. Total anarchy.

So a person on the ship is scheduled to leave but walks past /chats with another person showing no symptoms but who is a carrier. Catches the disease, disembarks with no symptoms and spreads it to everyone around him/her because the government says passengers disembarking don't need further quarantine. Great! Nice thinking Japanese Government.

What's the Japanese proverb, "the nail that sticks out gets hammered down."??

Disagreeing with the bosses is basically a career death sentence in this country.

Gotta tow the line.

He won't be coming if they don't stop the spread of the Corona Virus. Nor any Olympics for that matter.

I wonder which country will pull out first, if the virus keeps spreading. I'm betting Russia will first.

The "Gambare" / "Gaman" hogwash will be this countries undoing. I've seen people come to work sick with a really bad cold, fever, a few even came with influenza, so on and so forth. The belief that I can't take a few days off to heal, that I must report for work will allow this virus to spread throughout the country.

And a 70yr old patient of the infected doctor in Wakayama is now himself infected! I'm sure they'll be a lot more cases from this hospital in the near future. And the pandemic begins in Japan thanks The Abe government not banning all travel from China.

when the first case of this disease popped up, I said to myself, gotta stop all travel from China to Japan. That didn’t happen and now look!

I wouldn’t attend even if they gave away tickets for free which they will probably end up having to do. We’ll be over 1000 infected in a month if they refuse to block Chinese tourists from coming here.

Face facts: most all of the passengers are probably infected. If 175 are now, its a domino effect, one person spreads it to 4 others, then 4 to 16, 16 to 64 .......and so on!

Posted in: Japan may let elderly off quarantined cruise ship soon See in context

We are seeing step by step Japan dropping the ball from the first case of coronavirus in Japan, to flying citizens back from Wuhan, letting two walk free, to indecision about stopping flights from China, now taking people off the ship and probably letting them go without further quarantine because they are elderly. When the disease starts spreading like wildfire here, the Japanese government will stand around scratching their heads wondering how it all happened and bowing screaming “もしわけございません.”

Does anybody remember how the SARS pandemic ended? Did the virus just burn out? It seems people who get the virus outside of China may be getting a weaker version of it?

I'm also wondering if some people are purposely travelling with symptoms knowing that they will get a better level of care than in overcrowded hospitals in China.
