Posted in: Car mounts sidewalk, killing 9-year-old boy and injuring 3 others See in context

I was walking on a sidewalk with two friends in Tokyo 25 years ago when a taxi suddenly lurched up on the sidewalk right in front of us and smashed through the shuttered front of a barber shop. One second further and all three of us would have been either killed or terribly injured. You're not safe even on the sidewalk so keep your wits about you at all times.

Had a dream last night where I was on the street and pointed out to some J-locals that some Japanese woman had done something illegal and when some J-cops arrived they proceeded to accuse me, give me a brusque pat-down, and glare accusingly at me with one even taking a swipe at me. Hope this one doesn't come true !

Never listened to her stuff, not so diff from most J-pop, can't understand why she's famous 'cept for the fact she was bilingual/bicultural. She'll be back in 10 years as an oldies act, mark my words.

A year from now no one will remember half these people. Aren't these the things they burn one year later ? Just set fire to the lot right now and be done with it.

When she gets a little bit older she'll realize she really did shoot the golden goose. It's one thing to regret being rich and famous, it's quite another to realize you're not anymore. I predict a comeback within three years of her being a nobody.

What is with these people ? How can blowing up dozens of other people be considered a pure act ? This is so sad and depressing for the whole world.

Roppongi has been owned by the Nigerian mafia for years. It's a dive, avoid it at all costs. Almond is a lame place anyway.

Didn't feel it in Itabashi. However, I remember back in '85 walking through the terminal in Kinshicho during a large earthquake when I was practically thrown to the ground along with my companions while large thick glass doors flopped back and forth like rags.

I remember places in Ikebukuro only 15 years back where you could insert your tongue into girls' behinds as their main draw. And I can't even tell you what I saw in clubs out in industrial Kawasaki 25 years back where foreign women were exploited by J-patrons inserting whatever they wanted to on stage into the hapless gals.

No, no mustang, and the bikes are replicas. His wife even admitted she never kept a single machine he ever owned. Weird.

I went to the exhibition last night and met Steve's lovely wife and had her sign my book. The Maruzen staff refused to let me have my book signed as I didn't buy it there so I went to Barbara directly and she happily signed it. The J-version of the book is three times the cost of the English version of course. I was the only non-J in attendance so it was easy to talk to her, nice person.

Blaming presidents is so lame. If they don't institute these procedures and something happens, they are blamed. If they do institute such procedures they are blamed. It's a no-win situation for anyone. As for those passengers who claim nothing bothers them as long as it for the common good, what about cavity searches next ? You down with that ?

Posted in: 74-year-old Kanagawa woman killed in hit-and-run See in context

The streets of Tokyo are a veritable minefield when it comes to wobbling old people on bikes with no lights and dark clothing. People here are senseless about bicycle safety: no helmets, no reflectors, no safety savvy at all. And we get blamed when they blunder into our paths ? If that guy had stopped, his life would have been over too as he knew it.

I've had two of these over the years and got rid of both of them as they are not very fast and run out of power after 50 minutes or so if you go uphill on them. And they're bloody expensive.
