A politician pledging for MORE censorship. Who would have thought? Of course he will, those videos only showcase the incompetence and inefficiencies of the systems under his command.

Sounds like what they're doing to Trump

Yes, and the similarities are obvious - both Baldwin and trump are in the "authority without accountability" phase of theirs lives - and both are shocked that someone dared calling them on their actions and their consequences. Because of trump at least four people died in the Capitol. Because of Baldwin's cowboy cosplay with a real gun someone died. Very similar indeed.

You understand this is against the law, right? If someone is affected by the false reviews they may force google to give up information to identify you and sue.

Not if you give positive reviews! Who are you to tell me not to write "I really loved the place, highly recommended!" on Google Maps. That is not against any laws.

I got teeth colored fillings using my national health insurance. What are you talking about?

You get the rosin ones, that change colour within 3 years and cost nothing to produce. You DON'T get any ceramic (powder or monolyth ones. You also don't get veneers or actual teeth replacement unless they're metallic with the national health insurance. Do a quick check about the standards in EU and compare them with Japan.

Or you can get a filling done for about 6000 yen.

IF you problem is solved with unsightly metallic fillings, that is... Most people try to avoid having all the metal detectors sounding the alarms in airports. It is impossible for me to comprehend why insurances don't support teeth coloured fillings and (well) teeth, while the costs are about the same as the metallic ones. No wonder they get bad Google reviews, a hard look at the Japanese dentistry shows you they're easily 50 years behind the modern standards!

...and yes, Japanese dentists are so expensive that, for anything more than 4-5 teeth, it is cheaper to just fly to an Eastern EU country, stay in a hotel for a week, get the best and most expensive monolithic zirconium bridges and fly back. The process is fully digital (scans and teeth construction) and so the quality stays extraordinarily good. If Japan for each tooth it cost about 10X the price (no joke)..

I am at fault - together with a small community from my local city we've created fake reviews about fictional castle ruins just to see the reaction. It has picked up, with hundreds of people liking and posting their own "reviews" of the place on Google Maps. It was a 3.8 starred place for three-four years. It has genuinely attracted people to an empty opening in the middle of a boring park, showing how useless Google Maps reviews can be.

Posted in: Japan records highest-ever monthly visitor numbers in March See in context

As a permanent resident, I enjoyed the pandemic days, with no tourists and HUUUUGE discounts and money-back programs for anyone traveling within Japan, but I'm really happy now both for the tourists being able to finally enjoy this country and for the businesses benefiting them.

It's a bit sad that, due to the sakura blooming two-three weeks later than average, many have missed it - it was impossible to change flights and hotels booked months in advance. It's a nice perk everyone living in Japan gets - we get to see it for free every year, regardless of the weather.

Posted in: Stolen ¥10 mil gold bowl found in secondhand store See in context

Want to learn about the biggest scam these gold vessels provide? Read ahead:

Melting it would have significantly dropped its value. It is difficult for me to understand why people would pay twice its value in gold for such a simple to produce object. This cup weights 380 grams. At today's gold prices it is only worth 4.4-4.5M JPY.

Can anyone explain how casting it into such an easy to produce (and boring) object suddenly more than doubles its price to 10M? There is no intrinsic artistic or heritage value to it! Who falls for such open scams?

Posted in: Gun supervisor for ‘Rust’ movie gets 18 months in prison for fatal shooting by Alec Baldwin on set See in context

This was to be expected. 18 months (and potentially out in 12 with good behavior) is not that bad, I would have estimated at least 3 years. Fact is, one person died because of others' incompetence - ultimately there is no way to avoid this individual responsibility regardless of working conditions, etc. .

Is this an American thing? Flying in something resembling dirty underwear and bath slippers? Because if you take any flight in Europe you won't see that. The vast majority will be clean and neatly dressed.

You can't go wrong with a formal attire for a job interview anywhere in Japan. If a company rejects you for no other reason but because you wore a suit and necktie at their interview you don't want to work in that place anyway.

Japan should stop implementing "everything America". Europeans had big issues understanding what Nipplegate was about, for example, and are very good at separating the nude body and the sexuality and not automatically considering one the other, puritan style. Japan used to be like this and it was a much more natural society.

The last rabies case in Japan was 1957 but dogs are still required to have the vaccine. Our fit and healthy Jack Russel Terrier had his jab in the autumn, he was dead 6 hours later.

Not all the wild animals are investigated and the virus can still be carried accross borders. Rabbies has been identified even as close as Taiwan in the past 10 years. The rabbies was eradicated thanks to the vaccine, pretty shocking to see anyone pleading against it.
