Posted in: Japanese women describe things they’d most like to do if they were guys for a day See in context

“I’d stand in front of a mirror totally naked and just look at myself.”

Pfft, I do that anyway. With air guitar.

Posted in: NHK chief vows impartiality after wartime sex slavery remarks See in context

Even if they are his "personal views" as head of NHK, at his inaugural NHK press conference no less, he is a mouthpiece for the NHK body as a whole. If I had my "ABC Company" hat on and made inflammatory comments over an extremely sensitive subject, I should expect to be fired from said company.

These old world conservative cronies aren't doing Japan any favours.

Posted in: Wind power for Fukushima See in context

@sengoku38 It is an experimental 2MW turbine to test the safety (including ability to withstand typhoons), reliability and performance. If successful they plan to expand to 16MW.

Posted in: Identity fraudster steals 45 million yen from elderly woman See in context

I know a lot of elderly people are not as sharp in the mind as they used to be it amazes me how people can fall for this. Drop 45 million off at the conbini car park? Sure nephew!

Posted in: Haunted by trauma, tsunami survivors turn to exorcists See in context

These "exorcists" are taking advantage of the vulnerable. I wonder how many are volunteering to do it for free.

Posted in: Could the way we behave on the train reveal our true personality? See in context

Geoff Gillespie Want to see the way the Japanese really are? Spend a day travelling on the trains. Any facade of Japan's supposed national courtesy is quickly stripped away. They are just as rude as anybody, anywhere...

I have to disagree. Having traveled regularly on trains in China and the U.K, riding the train in Japan is a comparatively blissful experience.

Posted in: Post office employees have to sell (or buy if unable to) quota of 'nengajo' See in context

A friend of mine sells cosmetics and has to buy them to make up her quota. Even if she meets her quota but the total company sales are below expectations, she still has to buy from her company to make up for it. It's disgraceful.

It was a great speech. Factual and charismatic. Makes you wonder why the GOP didn't have their former President George Bush make a case. Imagine that 49 minute trainwreck.
