Posted in: Japan's workplace Valentine chocolate-giving tradition waning See in context

So your ex perpetuates misandry, sexism and double standards? Because the boy is not supposed to expect anything from girls but he should be the one giving to girls?

I pity him.

Let's see if any of you are brave enough to teach your daughters to give to boys but don't expect anything in return.

Thats on you, too bad I don't have a daughter.

I want to know is, why didn't any of the dozens of people standing or wlking nearby tackle the guy or run after him, even if at a safe distance

Maybe because they're scared and don't want to get stab, not every has the hero syndrome.

I like konbini stores, I don't have to make my own lunch box(obento) which is medokusai or go to a ramen shop or restaurant at lunch which is kinda expensive.

Posted in: Visitors to 2025 Osaka Expo to get taste of Japan's custom of bowing See in context

carp_boyaToday  07:54 am JST

A firm handshake and direct eye contact are symbols of mutual respect and confidence.

Bowing, on the other hand, feels like a competitive yoga class.

I prefer bowing, or even a slight nod of the head. It’s better than shaking hands with someone when you don’t know what they’ve been doing with that hand

Same here, after living here in Japan for long I kinda find shaking hands with a person you just met feels really uncomfortable, kinda icks me.

Pregnant women are famously harassed by their doctors about supposedly being too fat, leading to underweigth babies.

Not true. When I was pregnant with my son I was 55 kilos so my doctor put me in a diet and when my son was born he's 3,752 grams., I almost had a caesarian. So my doc told me after that jokingly "I told you so"

I live on a danchi way out in the suburbs and spoke to someone on the management committee who said that not a week goes by without demands from residents to cut down trees (because of fear of insects, leaves blowing onto balconies, etc). Really, if most people here had their way, there wouldn't be a single tree left standing in Tokyo. And they are pretty much getting there.

I live in Tokyo and we have lots of of trees in our neighborhood and nobody is demanding to cut down the trees.
