"We are against a release of contaminated water to the ocean as it could have a catastrophic impact on the future of Japan's fishing industry", Hiroshi Kishi, president of JF Zengyoren, told a meeting with government officials.

Not to mention the humans that will later consume those fish!

Posted in: Japanese musician beaten up in New York for being 'Chinese' See in context

Just like Canadians wear the Canadian flag on their clothing and backpack when they travel to avoid being mistaken for an American, it may be time for Japanese to wear the hinomaru on their clothing to avoid being mistaken for Chinese.

A nice thought, but unfortunately, it is highly unlikely that the type of racist, 'intellectually challenged' individuals that carry out these heinous attacks would recognize the Japanese flag and change their course of action.

Posted in: Republican senators confront Netflix over Chinese sci-fi show See in context

Republican senators are desperate to do anything and everything to distract Americans from the appalling death toll from Cov-19, massive unemployment, the sputtering economy, and tRump's myriad of scandals, which are too numerous to list. If they can also appear to be doing something to confront China (without actually doing so), all the better!

" ... mass shootings still represent only a tiny portion of U.S. homicides." 307 mass shootings and at least 1,250 dead because of them are a "tiny portion" of all US homicides. How sick is that fact?

I can imagine the criminal might be a school teacher or other type of respected figure in society” Higano said. He believes the perpetrator considered his acts “play” because if he really intended to cause serious injury or death, he would be more likely to attack a woman’s breasts.

Ooooookay ....

I believe the Nations of the Far East have to come together and tell the Chinese to mind their own business!

That's a good idea in principle, but unfortunately would not be very effective since China's armed forced are more powerful than that of all of the other Far East Nations combined (not to mention it's nuclear arsenal)

One of my favorites was a slogan for Meisei University that was mistakenly bang on. Appealing to new university prospects to join the academically challenged hordes that ambled down its dusty hallways was the simple, yet highly apropos slogan, "Grow Up!"

Get in the habit of checking where exits and emergency exits are.

Good advice (especially at shopping malls, movie theaters, etc.)

Playing dead will not work.

It worked for (at least) one person during the Orlando terrorist attack.

When “something” happens, don’t go toward it, run away.

Things that do not stop bullets: – Trashcans – Flower vases

Made me smile. :-)

Posted in: 'Star Trek' fan favorite Mr Sulu is gay in new film; Takei disapproves See in context

flavor is of the month

Gay people and minorities aren't exactly the "flavor of the month" as they make up a significant proportion of the world's population. The film industry has come under significant pressure for being overwhelmingly hetro and white, so why not add a little diversity? Change has to start somewhere!

Wait until the effects of Japan's highly carcinogenic fish and vegetables start to rear their ugly head. Rates of cancer will go through the roof and remain extremely high for a generation or longer. You can't dump millions of tons of radioactive water into the ocean without eventually paying the piper.

How is this relevant? If she let him stay the night, is she somehow partly to blame for her murder?

If the let this chimpira wannabe go to the Rio Olympics, it will send a terrible message to everyone.

Chimpira wannabe? Are you joking? He's risen to the number two ranked badminton player in THE WORLD. Do you have any concept of the thousands of hours of hard work and dedication it takes to achieve that??

he visited more than 6 times

No, he actually visited six times, not more than six times.

I find it incredibly hypocritical of the Japanese government to let some forms of gambling (horse racing, pachinko, etc.) flourish while having such harsh penalties for other forms of gambling such as casino games. In fact, the current government is pushing for the opening of casinos in different areas of Japan, so how bad can it really be?

Give this kid a fine of a couple hundred thousand yen and let him compete!

After nearly 10 miserable years of Democrat caused misery, mistakes, wars started and the prophet Obama throwing the Democrats under the bus, all Republicans need to do is show up.

You mean "misery" like ...

... taking an economy on the brink of collapse and turning it into one of the strongest in the world (unemployment rate when Obama was elected in 2008 - 7.1%; unemployment rate last month - 4.9%; +7.9 million jobs as of July 2015; S & P 500 at +177%, etc, etc.

... ending two wars (in Iraq and Afghanistan)

... Affordable Health Care Act (number of uninsured Americans dropped from 18% to 12.3% (11 million more adults now have insurance); projected savings over 15 years - $231 Billion

... sweeping financial industry reforms

... I could go on and on ....
