FF12 is my favourite game of the series, and one of my favourite games of all time. Very different to the rest of the series - although I like them all. Even FF8 and it's rickety plot-line and unlikeable characters.

I've been waiting for this to come out before I get a PS3. March '10 in Europe. Better start saving.

Posted in: Atheists at Christmas: Eat, drink and be wary See in context

Funny that the post accusing atheist of being intolerant and hating people should show exactly the same qualities. As an atheist, I celebrate Christmas because I enjoy it - I'd say it's more relevent to me than the Winter Solstice (which is on the 21st, isn't it?). Some people get upset about that, but I just let them give themselves an ulcer while I get on with my life. Happy Christmas, everyone!

Posted in: Cockney rhyming slang to be used at London ATMs See in context

Just as long as they don't do an ATM in the style of a strict old woman, who asks you what you're going to do with that money, and then says "Don't spend it all at once" at the end.

I'm looking forward to this. The first series was a nice mix of game theory, probability and mystery.

Hope they change the director, though. In the first series, whenever something important happened, he'd zoom in on the faces of everybody in the room, one after the other. If the room was pretty crowded, this took a while. It got quite annoying.

Well, this is confusing. Last night I heard a radio talk-in about another survey that put us Brits at the bottom of the pile.

I don't see how northlondon can put down someone who was quite open about wanting to move on from Celtic, but at the same time stick up for the supporters of a franchise team.

Posted in: Idiocy versus intelligence on Japanese quiz shows See in context

I've seen a couple of episodes of Hexagon II:Quiz Parade, and while my Japanese is not good enough to understand the nuances (assuming there are some) I did enjoy the game where they're given questions with difficult kanji to read out. After years struggling with the Japanese language, it's nice to see them have difficulty with it too.

That said, Nep League sounds great!

Hmm, academic goes missing on remote island? Is anyone else getting Trick/Puzzle/Galileo flashbacks?

Posted in: Why do Asian pop stars have a hard time succeeding in the U.S. market? See in context

Talking about the UK market, it’s very resistant to non-English music, unless it’s a novelty hit that they heard while on holiday in Spain. The US market seems to be similar. People like to empathise with/sing along to songs – even instrumental bands never have hit singles – so they listen to songs in a language they understand.

Add to this the vicious circle of the public not buying these artists because they never hear them, but TV/radio won’t play them because the public never buys them. The internet may change this over time, but it’s a slow process.

Shonen Knife are the only Japanese pop band to have any success recently that I can recall.
