a very enjoyable Japan Cup this year ,, only about 7/8 lengths between the first 10 home , the winner won with a hands and heels Ride. Ryan Moore showed his brilliance throughout the day riding a 4 timer and only getting pipped in the cup itself.. the Japanese horses, Jockeys certainly have improved tremendously over the last 20 years ,, congradts to the winning connections

I have lived the past 20 years in Hokkaido . most of the new houses here are very well insulated . housing has however a very short life span i.e.; a house is considered old anything over 20/30 years . I assume one of the reasons for this is that each generation in turn has to build their own house which provides work and is good for the economy, not unlike the auto industry here . Yes I would agree with Valerie in japan what is said is often less important than what is not said. there is good and bad, strengths and weakness in any culture . You can look for the rust or look for the paint . If you really feel that something needs changing you will achieve very little from the outside , the only way to change anything is from the inside , the only way to get inside is to understand the language and culture . I love japan otherwise I wouldn't be here, that said I am not japanese nor do I wish to be. Paul Young -wherever I lay my hat thats my home . Sting- Russians love their children to

Posted in: Spring traffic safety campaign begins nationwide See in context
I think that the driving speed limit is ridiculously low and that most drivers do not observe the given limits 60km normal limit though mostly 40 or indeed 30 in a lot of areas here in Hokkaido . if in actual fact they were to the nations GDP would fall a corresponding percentage . as for safety week or campaign again really only there to fill the coffers of the on duty traffic cops actually they just harass people that are driving like they do every day of the week . there are enough of places where people drive dangerously fast and no traffic cops to be seen. Have lived and driven here a long time so am quite used to the system" when in rome" and all that ! Funny also the traffic radar devices that you can use here in your car are illegal in most other countries I have driven in albeit mostly Europe.

I would rather have parents tell their kids that they are special and to believe in themselves than parents that dont . Every kid is special.

You do the crime you get the time , the boys knew what they were doing , you would imagine , thrill seekers ! ? Punks ! ? I bet they knew what risk they were taking and thought they had gotten away with it . would love to hear their side of the story especially after the porridge stunt. Reminds me a bit of the mathias rust story the young german kid that flew a cessna plane into the red square certainly something to tell the grandkids .

dont know if it was what they call here the susumebatchi but if the same they are pretty aggressive creatures and need little provocation to attack. saying has it here in hokkaido that a second sting later from one of the same bee/hornet can be life threatening , have been stung by one myself a number of years ago and yes very painful.
