This maybe the only time Seppuku should be commited by these idiots as atonement. But of course they won't. Poor unlucky family. Geez...dragged to death. Horrible.

well...if it will at least get them to vote long term I'd call it a positive. Funashi might even make a better alternative to the unfunny jokers who had been elected currently and in the past.

This is so creepy & dangerous on many levels. Who can we tell our kids to trust in case of trouble when the people who in uniform are the bad guys?! Luckily this one predator was stopped. kudos to everyone involved.

"A Reuters investigation" , not a police investigation, Ministry of Labour or even damn NHK investigation. Those poor people at Fukushima and those workers paid minimum wages were never given any fair deal. I really fear for this country sometimes...

I can't agree with all the fighting back comments. The article has mentioned that the nutjob was asking for panties. I would think giving it to him would be better than aggravate an already crazy guy, What's the loss of a panty compared to your safety or life? Better to just try to get as much info/description of the nut to give later to the police.

Posted in: Racist in the West, cool in Japan See in context

In the visual sense, I think the deadpan dancers are similar to Robert Palmers' Simply Irresistible mannequin like backup dancers and similar artistic expressions have been used many times before in music videos. Subjectively I do agree though with borax above, whereby I can't escape feeling that there's an undertone of Japanese elation whenever some aspects of Japanese culture or lifestyle are adopted overseas even if they're somewhat stereotypical & even unrealistic to a certain degree, especially by the West.

What I find unsettling is the "need" by Japan/Japanese to feel "approved" by the West and what such visuals will add to the Japanese stereotype in Western eyes. Although I think that since stereotyping itself is quite common in Japan, perhaps due in part to the Japanese group mentality in the culture; Japanese people don't mind they themselves being stereotyped as much as the West think they do.

Posted in: Man arrested for starting forest fire after barbecue in Hyogo See in context

Too many people I see in daily life here have irresponsible attitudes towards public places. They seem to think once it's in a public place somehow their responsibility ends there. I see people throwing their rubbish on the ground when there's a waste bin just like a meter away. I could never understand this.

On another note, I think many people here don't "get" how to properly have a barbie, especially outdoors with matters of safety and cleaning up after themselves.

Posted in: 7-year-old Japanese girl mauled by 4 dogs in New Zealand See in context

I was attacked by a stupid dog owned by a stupid owner when I was a kid but got over it as I grew up. I worked with a lot of dogs on a farm for many years. they were working dogs and I haven't seen any other animal beat their courage, dedication and loyalty even when they have to confront animals much bigger than themselves.

Their virtues aside, they are still dogs, they are animals. I don't subscribe to some people's views that they are somehow "human" and can do no wrong. What they do depends on a certain level to their training, breed and individual temperament. I believe it is totally the owner's responsibility when a dog misbehaves. I have shed tears when a dog died, and on the other hand I have also personally put down a dog when it had shown violent behavior traits and attacked people and livestock regardless of the training and care we have given it. To reiterate, dogs are dogs and I believe since we are the apes with the bigger brain, we are the ones who should be responsible. Hope the kid recovers without lifelong scars.

Posted in: Kyary Pamyu Pamyu encourages students to follow their dreams See in context

Give the girl a break! Telling people to have the imagination to follow their dreams is a positive thing, especially in Japan where your path in life seems to be "mapped out" by societal pressures. I heard she choreographs her dances and has input on her music too. We may not think she's a musical prodigy but she's creating something. Employment for other people amongst others. She has done a lot more than other people and I have done at her age. Credit where credit is due I think.

I'd always thought Keith Richards wouldn't last long due to his lifestyle, but nowadays I find myself quite surprised that he's sort of becoming a role model of the kind of guy you don't mind growing old to be. Still healthy enough to perform and rock at 70!

Another one of the many hidden mentally ill functioning member of society.

I also don't think the parents are to blame in this case, I mean imagine you're at a bookstore (a bookstore for god's sake) you won't be expecting people to stomp on your kids' feet would you? There's no strategy against crazy.

So he's a "care giver" who:

...would suddenly hurl insults at the boy, swearing and telling him that he was not wanted in the home and that he wished he would die, as well as making ominous statements such as I have yakuza [gangster] friends

Kudos to the mother who ditched him and did something about it, pity for the people he's "caring" for wherever he works.

@Richard Wood

There's nothing "wrong", it's just that the risk of Down syndrome and similar increases as the mother grows older. Some people try hard to have kids and when they do at a later age, sometimes this happens. It's quite a sad story.

The positive thing about this I think is that his colleagues actually did something about it. It would just be too easy for them to ignore his behavior and turn a blind eye since "He's one of us after all", but they didn't. Some hope there.

This sickness...it's never attacking somebody more powerful than them, you never hear this kind of psycho attacking an army base or a koban, it's always somebody/something much weaker.

Perhaps it's a flow on effect of bullying or something but seems like it's a common theme among these sick weak minds here.

Posted in: Japan eyes review of arms export ban See in context

Apart from the typical Japanese politician foot in mouth disease, Japan being able to export defense technology would contribute to her economy and might even provide some political leverage. Who are we kidding, we've had thousands of years to practice living in peace with each other. Weapons are unfortunately a necessary evil. Nukes would had already been used if it wasn't for M.A.D.

Good fences make good neighbours.

Computers work on a set of logical operations.

People driving recklessly, bicycles with no lights at night dashing through an intersection from blind corners, kids running in the middle of the road and general disregard for self preservation & traffic rules will be hard to program.

Do hope it will be successful though. If it reduces at least some of the human error from the equation it might even save lives.
