Posted in: Tokyo reports 19,798 new coronavirus cases; nationwide tally 95,453 See in context

for more context, 1,400,000 Japanese die every year.

thats more than 3,500 per day.

the number of Covid deaths is 82 today, it is less than 3.3% of total deaths. we also know that most ppl dying from it are over 70 and in bad health.

you are much more likely to die from cancer, a heart attack , or a stroke by an order of magnitude.

No one wants to die or suffer from the consequences of (long) Covid, but there is too much vain effort and economic cost already put into this.

It is bad for people suffering from other diseases who don't get the medical attention they merit. If you care about your health, or the health of your loved ones, there is many things you can do to reduce the risk of getting those illnesses....

and don't forget your mental health ! don't get depressed by all the media fear-mongering and brainwashing. Suicide kills more than 8,000 people a year !

This is a phenomenon that we don't have over here. I am curious, as I do not understand it. Who goes to these places? Young people, business people, cheating spouses, people wanting to spice things up, all the above?

Posted in: Kobe woman, Nagoya Sagawa delivery man, JAL cabin attendant test positive for virus See in context

the reason the number of deaths from Coronavirus is so low, the main victims in Stage 1 are the most vulnerable people, the older ones. As the symptoms are the same than regular flu, their deaths is classified as being due to regular flu and very few among those people are tested against Coronavirus.

Because there are quite a lot of deaths from regular flu every year, the fact that many are dying from Coronavirus can be hidden for quite a long time.

However in stage 2, as the epidemic spreads Coronavirus victims include more and more younger people (after mainly those in 70s and 80s, more people in their 40s and 50s) but because there is no systematic testing, the new cases that are being brought up are mainly precisely those of these people in their 40s and 50s whose condition is serious and unusual enough to necessitate a test. But by the time this happens the epidemic is already much more spread than official numbers suggest, and much more difficult to stop.

There are many other hints that the epidemic is wider spread than the official numbers:

MPs being hit in Iran, Italy France. Is MP a job that is 10x ? 100x ? 1000x ? times more dangerous than a regular job ? Why do so many MPs get it ? because they shake so many hands ? or because they are being treated better than regular people and get tested ? In France or Italy there is around 1MP for every 100,000 people. and officially 1 infected people per capita. What was the ex-ante probability that the infected person among 100,000 people was precisely the MP in that group ? short answer : 1/100,000 .... do you believe in coincidences ?

TLDR Watch the news; If you hear more and more of new cases of people in their 40s and 50s and the % of serious conditions in these new cases is higher than what we're seeing now, then my thesis is making a lot of sense.

Posted in: Japan to invalidate 2.8 million visas for Chinese amid virus fears See in context

too funny; Korea is finding many cases because they are very actively testing their population

Japan isn't finding any new cases because it is NOT conducting mass testing.

on NHK, news of a guy who went 7 times to see a doctor (at 3 different hospitals) and he was just sent home. The 8th visit at a 4th doctor, he was allowed to be tested and found positive. But had 2 weeks without being tested and he could transmit the virus to everyone around him...

TLDR: there is a big likelihood the epidemic is worse in Japan than Korea because being unchecked, and progressing at an alarming rate while its now being under control in China

Really, it should be the contrary and Korea and China calling for a ban of visitors from Japan !!!

Posted in: Abe says gov't will announce more measures on March 10 to counter virus See in context

here is one fact for you all to ponder: (from Wiki)

https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%89pid%C3%A9mie_demaladie%C3%A0_coronavirus_de_2019-2020#Province_du_Hubei

1st death in Wuhan from the virus Jan 9th

2nd death in Wuhan from the virus Jan 16th

City lockdown Jan 23rd (2 WEEKS after the 2nd death)

1st death in Japan Feb 13th

2nd death in Japan Feb ?? can't find exactly but its been more than 1 week for sure

-- the Chinese have responded quicker to the virus than here. given how quickly the virus spreads, I think unfortunately that the situation will become worse than in Wuhan and the longer we wait the worse it will be.

Given the exponential growth of the virus, one week of waiting means one more 0 in the numbers of cases and victims.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Posted in: Japan keeps high coronavirus alert as more nationals return from China See in context

Let that sink in . Among the 99 new passengers on the boat who tested positive, 70 have no symptoms.

If they were free in the nature, for 2 weeks they wouldn't have any symptoms but could transmit it to all those around. How many already such carriers are in Tokyo. From just one such carrier, he can easily infect 10s or 100s of people before he is even aware he is sick... and same thing for the persons he infected.

The conclusion is something is nobody wants to hear, especially Mr Abe, but its probably too late. What we are seeing in China, hundreds of millions of people quarantined is what is going to happen in this country inevitably in a few weeks at best. And actually, the sooner the better. Lets forget about the economy, about those Olympics, its a matter of survival here.

Because the lethality is supposed to be "only" 1-5% ? [which is already a lot] but there are some reports in China that patients who resisted the virus and left the hospital, were infected a second time, with the virus being even deadlier.

Of course we will know rather soon, in 2 weeks or 1 month if these fears are valid or not, but in case they are, and if no strong action is taken immediately then the consequences will be heavy

There are no easy decisions here.

We can all agree on the wrongs of the Japanese judicial system

we shouldn't forget that the US imprisons 1% of its population, that the US and UK system conspired to imprison Julian Assange and there is no one in the Western leaders to condemn that.

I prefer to support a hero defending our liberties than a white collar criminal

What is astonishing is Mr Ghosn's total lack of repentance for his misdeeds in his big show with the press

I believe Ghosn can still be judged in absentia. If it is allowed by the Japanese system, there is no reason why it shouldn't happen.

Funny to see so many support messages for this criminal on this board. The comments/reactions on international websites are in totally different tone.. LOL

And why so much Japan hate ? as if this was the most unfair country in the world. I can see things being way more screwed up in Western countries, US, UK or France, just to name a few.

Ghosn innocent ?

i think not, he can be judged without being present at his trial. Let the jury decide whether he is guilty or not.

My bet is he will be declared guilty. Ghosn made the same bet and he's gonna lose his bailout money. I can agree that parting with a few millions is better than spending jail time.

Good luck with all his judiciary problems which are set to continue in France and Netherlands.

if you followed the news on TV, his lawyer said that Ghosn was expecting to be arrested days ago already, and that his lawyer has a video recording of what he wanted to say anyway.

His enemies would have already expected Ghosn to do that. So theories that they charged Ghosn PRECISELY because of that press conference are non-sense to me. There were recently new leaks (from insiders of course) about Ghosn misconduct. They are being investigated in France as well.

The actions of Mr Ghosn are deemed serious enough so that government-backed Renault decided Wednesday in its shareholder meeting, NOT to award Mr Ghosn his +700,000 EUR a year pension (roughly 100,000,000 yens) as promised, because of Mr Ghosn misconduct, nor to award him his 2018 bonus.

The flaws of the Japanese judicial system have been exposed here, but to believe that Mr Ghosn is a victim of some cabal is just being victim of conspiracy theories. Mr Ghosn is a victim of his past deeds.
