Tokyo-engnr, yes that too. I think the spread on land has to be kept an eye on and the public updated.

It is expected that the numbers will rise on board considering the closed environment of the ship. What Japan is not telling us is the situation on land. There are no updates on the initial 20 or so people that were infected on land.

I think it is an infringement of one's personal habits/life. If the person stinks, then its fair to tell them to do something about the smell. But to downright not hire just on the basis of that is wrong.

The driver has 4 kids. The criminals should be made to do hard labor long term, something that would yield money to support the kids.

Posted in: Japanese high school student repeatedly kicks his teacher while class is in session See in context

One of the mistakes teachers make is try to be "buddies" with students. You can be a friendly teacher but you must remain a teacher and person in authority for the students. Of course all of this is easier said than done, I admit. I struggled a lot with my first job as an ALT in an unruly middle school. And that was compulsory education so the students could not be expelled for extreme bad behavior. But this is High school. It's optional education. Why do they attend? They should get out and get some work. 16 to 18 year olds are not little children.

I think as a young teacher of only 23 meaning he just finished University himself, he has a long way to find a style of teaching for himself. I hope he does and recognizes that you cannot be friends with your students, otherwise the lines of student-teacher relationship is blurred. Once that happens, its very hard to fix and change the relationship.

Posted in: France herds Muslim faithful off streets after prayer ban See in context

I was brought up in Pakistan in the biggest city of Karachi. And every Friday the people would spread mats on main roads during the afternoon prayer which meant those routes were blocked for atleast a couple of hours. I found it a nuisance, very selfish and obscenely ostentatious of those who thought "As a muslim they know their mosque is anywhere where they stand no need for a proper building" Azida, I am sorry and i am not against you per se, but i believe your idea of Muslims' rights to pray in any public in large numbers because anywhere is a mosque disregards other people's right to use that space at that time too. In any case, France has arranged alternative spaces for mass prayers which is more than what a lot of Muslim countries will even ever imagine doing. That is a fact and a sad one.
