The amount of arguing politics creates in the American culture is incredible. If Americans could harness that amount of thought and bickering to actually pushing forward on something, they would be in a better place.

Debate isn't bad, but when it comes to near pointless argument when neither side will make any concessions and closes their minds to all viewpoints but their own.

The dog is much smaller, easier to carry, and the most important part, keep control of in one arm. Also, I've never seen anyone carrying a dog on their back.

Just a dad out with his kid and pet, that's good enough for me.

Posted in: Do you think U.S. President Barack Obama is doing a good job as he finishes his first year in office? See in context

Honestly, I don't think Obama has done enough to help guide what he promised when he got into office. I voted for him but keep tapping my shoe waiting for him to do something other than sit there and basically repeat Bush. He can't exactly blame Bush when he's done the exact same things he has. Bailouts for the companies instead of the people and increasing troops in a country where the majority of people occupying the country want us out of.

Meanwhile Pelosi is over there mucking around, helping screw everything up with a health care bill that no one in their right mind could understand. I'm Independent and am angry at both parties. I think a bunch of high schoolers could get the US on better track at this point.

Posted in: How the rock-god tribute scene translates — or doesn’t — into Japanese See in context

tokoind2, I don't think there will be much more evolution outside of way too technologically enhanced music. I enjoy trance and techno, but I greatly dislike when my rock or nearly any other music genre is messed with by being digitally enhanced. I want to hear what the singers really sound like and feel the personal emotion behind the music.

Great for these guys doing this in Japan. America and Japan's past has been intertwined, and I enjoy listening to some Japanese do American tribute better than some Americans.

I have to say, that looks amazing... I normally balk at things like this, but they're so crazy shiny! Like bamboohat, I also would be way too afraid of hitting something and ruining the whole car. Even a bug or a tossed pebble might mess everything up!

Posted in: Why is groping so prevalent on trains in Japan? Anyone care to hazard a guess as to the psychological reasons on why men grope? See in context

Hazard a guess as to why... ummm, they're horny men in a cramped space with cute women? Even if they are getting it at home or elsewhere, there would be an urge for some (including me). I'm a man, I have a lot of testosterone in me, I exercise regularly and enjoy my lady regularly.

Doesn't mean I don't feel attracted to other women, doesn't mean I do not look at other women. It's like being in a shop that says "Please look, but do not touch." Even if the merchandise is literally 6 inches away from you and you may not get caught. So men just eventually reach out there and give it a touch. Each have their own motives, some abuse it, some may only do it once or twice, some not at all. I'm a not at all, but it's just a natural human instinct.

There is no good answer to it, because it will always happen. I'm a firm believer in society policing itself, not using cameras and other means of invasion. The police have attempted to raise public awareness, which is very good. Hopefully some ladies won't be afraid of grabbing the hand of their assailant, raising it up and saying "hentai!" upon which other women may then beat the assailant with their purses, buwahaha! I know... most are way too timid... poor girls.

What is wrong with the women in Japan and leaving babies in the car? They need a national "Do not leave your baby in the car awareness day."

I have to agree with the depopulation people, the slow lowering of the population is a positive thing for Japan. Society is already changing its habits and rightfully should. Now if there was only unification behind it.

Moderation is the key, over fishing and over anything is usually bad, there are a few exceptions. I don't want whales to go extinct and I believe people should have respect for the environment, but I don't think this constant banter on the seas is good either.

Posted in: Which side do you think looks more in the wrong following Wednesday's clash between Sea Shepherd and Japanese whalers? See in context

Idiots, that's all I can say. What good comes of continually pushing someone over and over, calling them names and harassing them, and being an overall jerk for hours on end? Usually a punch to the face, which the AG obviously got. Their high tech, high priced boat ended up sinking (going down in one hit). If some other courses of action had taken place, this wouldn't have happened in the first place.

I'm not justifying over-whaling but I'm not justifying being stupid jerks either. As many have said, its both their fault and they're both stupid, baka baka ばか!

Posted in: Will Japan be around in the year 2500? See in context

We'll either overcome or kill ourselves off in vast numbers. Between now and then we get to choose a side: trying to do good for our environment and take care of the place we live or not give a care and trash everything. The whole global warming argument is a secondary point, whether it be true or not I don't care. What I do know is the excess garbage I see every day is horrible, huge trucks using way more than they need, people way overweight and eating way too much, living in spaces they don't need, and etc. (sorry, my observations from my home in the states)

I dislike these articles. People spreading doom and gloom is not going to fix the problem, do what you need and should do day to day and maybe influence someone along the way, it's the only way things will change. I guess doom and gloom is one way of doing it, but I always heard being positive has a far better implications. :)

Read through most the comments and there were not many bashers just because of her looks. I've honestly never heard her music and stopped watching the idol shows long ago, they're not my thing. She appeals to a certain demographic, I'd venture to say the same that made the movie Titanic a huge success. "Pop" culture is just that, popularity. It's just a matter of having someone who can polarize a certain demographic and get them to spend the money. She's doing gaining fame and making money, good for her. It is what she signed up for, right? I'd still take a lady who cares about her image over if she can sing!

Posted in: What advantages does marriage offer that a single lifestyle doesn't? See in context

Hmm, trying not to go on about my own failings, so...

Marriage offers everyone different things. For some it is a dream of being at home and raising kids, or financial security, just for sex, or whatever. Personally I am looking for a partner who has like goals and when we come to a point we can compromise. Who respects them self and wants and tries to do well in their life for both our gain.

I want to reciprocate that, do well for my partner and enjoy life with them too! My lady and I enjoy some craziness here and there, but all in good fun and in moderation. That is something marriage can offer many people, someone who might enjoy some of the same things you do along with long lasting support and happiness. So many guys mention sex, well, find a woman who wouldn't mind enjoying another partner in your bed once in a while for some adult fun! Mutual respect, not often, but she understands me and I understand her. She's the one I always wake up to and always come home to. :)

Idiot, the traffic pays for itself. Paying for a newspaper you're mostly paying for physical media anymore. The ads in the paper pay for the salaries of the writers. Remove the physical media and leave the ads - websites. Still making money for your writers!

Posted in: Sakura Uehara divorces husband after his punchup with cameraman See in context

Ah, after my rawr rawr post I wanted to say something else. Marriage is a great thing, two people working together to make a better life for one another and creating cute little ones to continue on. I also agree, people should be very committed to one another!

After my years I've learned quite a bit and am taking my time going forward. I've got that inner feeling of feeling I want someone in my life, but that's all it is. People should not divorce for silly reasons and is why I gave mine very great thought and 4/5 of the debt I mentioned was not what I racked up.

Posted in: Sakura Uehara divorces husband after his punchup with cameraman See in context

Surrender that option? When does it come available again? When one kills the other? I walked away from mine with way too much weight on my shoulders from a woman who had severe depression, lashed out at me, and left me with $250,000 worth of debt. 12 years of it, I tried, believe me. I visited her in the psych wards too. She died a long time ago and became someone I no longer knew, yet I still feel guilty because I believed that same way a long time ago, medievaltimes.

Him punching someone else... though I don't know the story, did the paparazzi deserve it? Or was the relationship normally like this and hit her in secret too?

Angry, very angry. Not reading more than the first two lines of the story and the first comment because I read it too fast as I scrolled down. I'd almost prefer that no media ever report something like this, unless the authorities are not doing their job. If they are and he is punished properly... I'm happier day to day not hearing about such vile people.
