Posted in: Japan extends entry ban on non-resident foreigners until end of February: Kishida See in context

@aly rustom. It's just bad report again as usual. Resident card holders with those statues can come and go currently exactly the same as a Japanese citizen unless coming from one of the designated countries in southern Africa. I just came in yesterday as a permanent resident and it's a a non issue, well other than the endless waiting for PCR results and hotel assignments.

They've never explained why they are wasting hospital beds for people with mild symptoms. Absolutely mad.

It's already here Kishida, there already aren't enough hotel rooms for arrivals, the system is unnecessary and unsustainable. It's going to spread like crazy after New Year regardless, despite your tough border controls.

A lot of countries have very sensible controls, vaccinated travelers can come in with a negative test. No need for this BS extended supervised quarantine based on coming from an area with a single confirmed omicron case.

Doesn't seem to work with non Japanese passports. Screen to scan passport just sits there and does nothing.

Came to Thailand yesterday. Whole process was shockingly efficient. Was out of the airport in well under 30 mins, driven in private transport to the hotel I chose on my own, PCR done onsite and results first thing in the morning. Free to do whatever I want in the country now. Japan could really learn a lot from the Thais on this process. Seems to be working quite well. Not looking forward to my return in January at all, but hopefully they realize by then that Omicron is a big nothing burger and drop the hotel requirements (coming back from the US, currently sitting at 3 days)

Posted in: Japan confirms 4th case of Omicron variant infection See in context

There aren't 4 US states blocked, suggest you get onto the MOFA website yourself. There are 12 that require a 3 day hotel quarantine before quarantining at home. Nigeria is on that same list as is half of Europe, and the other half of Europe is on the 6 day hotel quarantine list.

The only places with any kind of block are the initial 10 countries in southern Africa, and that block is only for foreign residents who left after the bans were initiated. Example: If a permanent resident departed Japan on Sept 30, they can still return from South Africa.

Know your facts Jack

Sounding like this is just going to run it's course through everyone, vaccinated or not, recent recovery or not. So the faster that happens, the faster it gets treated like the common cold and travel can normalize finally.

Shameful how Japan treats drivers, unless he was willfully driving recklessly, this should be a civil matter, not criminal.

It clearly says spouses will be treated as exceptional circumstances, just long term visa holders will be banned (work visas) so those of us lucky enough to be married (to a Japanese) or permanent resident will still be allowed to travel same as Japanese citizens.

Phew I say because this isn't ever going away and Japan is going to punish us seemingly forever now.

Ok, so then how about removing quarantine requirements for returning residents?

It's a start and hopefully younger people will realize it's the only way to meaningful change. Only way to get rid of decades of LDP rule and stagnation.

Haha, love it. Sadly the average Japanese person has no interest in the stock market so as usual nothing will change. Set their pensions on stock market performance like an American 401k and I bet people start making better voting decisions.

Ridiculous keeping the bars and restaurants restricted. Of course few in Tokyo follow it anyway but rural prefectures mostly did. Who wants to go travel when they still have to close at 9?

Certainly no one is going to come here until quarantine is abolished. Certainly hope Kono understands that and gets rid of it ASAP.

What's this in % BAC? The way they phrase it here is meaningless to me. BAC is a lot more universally understood.

Certinly not 0.88%, think he'd be dead. So guessing 0.088% which isn't even DUI territory in a lot of places. That's only 3-5 drinks for many people.

Far far too late. No one cares nor has patience anymore. Unless you can impose jail sentences no one will listen anymore. Get out vaccines and shut up.

After the suspect had left the scene, train crew guided passengers to walk along the tracks to a nearby station.

Does the train driver lack a brain here? This wasn't a train accident, why not drive the train to the nearest station? Instead he makes already traumatized people walk on the tracks, absolute moron.

How do they know if someone has been to Kansas or Indiana? LOL! Texas I can see, we have flights from Dallas and Houston... but is anyone stupid enough to walk up to the health counter and say they've been to those other states to get 3 free nights in an APA hotel?

Tragedy, but the mother should be the one arrested for gross negligence and child endangerment. I've seen this a million times, very unlikely the truck driver's fault at all, kids come darting out of nowhere unexpectedly, he was unlucky, wrong place wrong time. Japan needs to place responsibility on the negligent parents.

Absolutely pointless, the citizens of Tokyo have already spoken and said loud and clear they intend to fully ignore it, do you honestly think that Osaka especially, or Chiba, Kanagawa, and Saitama give a flying f&#@?

Only difference, I went to Enoshima today, beach shacks stopped serving alcohol. So, conbini still sells it, order beach shack food to go, get conbini beer, consumer win, save money. Beach shack mega loose, won't be back under same owner next year because last month of season no one will use it.

Useless unless they stop requiring us to quarantine on return. Those countries listed already would allow us to travel there without this new document. The point is to get rid of the quarantine in Japan.
