Posted in: Japan to issue vaccine passports free of charge See in context

Useless unless they stop requiring us to quarantine on return. Those countries listed already would allow us to travel there without this new document. The point is to get rid of the quarantine in Japan.

LOL, you can't make this crap up. Not that I've ever been eligible for tax free shopping here but thanks for the warning nonetheless.

At least they are giving us one last weekend to get drunk and be merry. Fortunately I have a flight tomorrow and the lounge will still be serving beer as usual.

Posted in: Japan to give 6 mil doses of vaccines to Taiwan, 5 Southeast Asian nations See in context

Don't know anyone who took AZ that enjoyed their 2-3 days of side effects. Good riddance to them.

Though I do feel bad for the people of Taiwan getting stuck with them, that's hardly a second or third world country. Shame their leaders didn't proactively hedge and order a variety in advance like Japan and other first world countries.

How about referring them to prosecutors for driving like madmen on the sidewalks and blatantly ignoring traffic signals?

Just let people drink in peace. Give us vaccines and stop the nonsense.

Posted in: Tokyo nightlife bustles despite state of emergency See in context

It's extremely easy to find plenty of bars at any given station in Tokyo waving an outstretched middle finger to the "restrictions" and I'm happy to support them with my $$.

This crap has gone on way too long. Give us vaccines fast or let us make our own poor decisions.

Posted in: Man arrested after pushing over woman and her 2 children on bicycle See in context

Saw a woman once on one of those baby carrying bicycles come inches from being crushed by a dump truck. She completely ignored the guy with the wand telling everyone else to stop and wait while the dump truck was reversing. These women drive like retards on those bikes, that would have been her own fault, and I bet in this Osaka case she either hit or came too close to the pedestrian causing the outrage.

Posted in: Overseas investors sue Nissan over Ghosn's financial misconduct cases See in context

Lol, I hope the investors win. Japanese Nissan execs brought this upon themselves with the farce they created to remove the gaijin at rhe top of the company. It's been a sham from day 1 and I hope this lawsuit hurts them where it counts.

Posted in: Japan extends state of emergency for Tokyo, 8 other areas to June 20 See in context

As usual, inconveniencing everyone for their precious Olympics. Still plenty of bars and restaurants ignoring the 'request' and domestic airfare at least should remain cheap. Discounted AirBNB near the beach in Okinawa sounds like a good idea on the weekends.

348 beds in a city if 9 million people. They should be absolutely ashamed how inadequacy they have prepared.

Posted in: Gov't refers to possible state of emergency extension as Okinawa added to list See in context

Think it's pretty clear they aren't going to lift this until after the Olympics. Hope the cancel protests make some headway. It's purely punitive on us just to have their precious Olympics.

Can we get our vaccine in Spain? Certainly wouldn't mind a trip to the Canaries and returning vaccinated would be wonderful.

Posted in: Japan to issue new 500 yen coins in November See in context

I’m surprised they don’t redo the ¥10,000 note to force the population to show what they are holding onto. Maybe too many of their own in the mattress.

Wouldn't be effective. They don't demonetize old notes. You can still spend old 100 and 500 yen notes if you choose to.

Good thing Kanagawa, Saitama, and Chiba are all open for business. Enough of this nonsense.

Good thing Kanagawa is so close on the train. Heard the taps are still free flowing. Absolutely pointless Koike!

Posted in: Japanese hospital worker infected with coronavirus after 2 vaccine shots See in context

Dangerous even reporting this. No one ever said the vaccine will prevent infection. It's efficacy is about it preventing death and serious illness. The virus itself is a part of life from here to the end of humanity.

Japan is doing a fabulous job of doing it ALL wrong.

Posted in: Rapid coronavirus testing centers to open at Tokyo's Haneda airport See in context

What's the point of having them in the domestic terminals? And such low numbers per day, 1 single domestic 777 or A350-900 carries over 300 passengers. How many of those take off every single hour on domestic flights?

Posted in: Saitama officially forbids walking up and down escalators See in context

This country has the slowest escalators I've seen anywhere in the world. Need to double the speed and maybe fewer people will feel the need to walk. In Hong Kong you don't see people walking up and down them, but they are significantly faster than here.

Posted in: Japan to get first batches of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine from U.S. See in context

Yup, still plan just to go to US and get J&J.

Moderna, too many reported harsh side effects on 2nd dose.

Don't trust AZ at all.

Pfizer fine but Japan will have its thumb up it's arse way too long to wait for it.

Posted in: Tokyo's Imperial Hotel to be rebuilt See in context

They'd attract a lot more customers by partnering with a Western chain and doing a refurb than rebuilding. Visitors book Marriott, Hilton (Conrad), IHG, Hyatt, etc. because of perceived quality of rooms, service and international loyalty (point) programs... Plus business travelers expensive accounts and corporate contracts don't hurt.

Don't know why some of the Japanese luxury hotels still don't get it and remain fiercely independent. Mori's Andaz does so well because it's part of Hyatt, not because of location or building particularly.

Posted in: Vaccinations for elderly to begin in populous areas in limited supply See in context

This is just stupid. I'll be making my appointment in America as soon as I can guarantee the J&J shot. Won't see it in Japan anytime this year otherwise.

Posted in: Kono warns of slower pace of COVID vaccine shots for elderly after supply delay See in context

What a joke. Good ole BJ on the news today saying the entire UK population will have at least their 1st shot by the end of July. We won't even have started under 60s by then.

Someone said be grateful, it's free. Lol! You're funny. I'm perfectly willing to pay a hefty surcharge to skip the queue, I'm willing to fly (twice) to any relaxed quarantine country to get it done and over with because I, like many people, just want to f@ing travel somewhat normally again and get out of this bassakward country from time to time.

Japanese are going to be the last people in the developed world allowed to travel freely due to these douchebags in the government.

Posted in: Should Spotify payments go to artists you actually listen to? See in context

I frankly don't see how it will make a difference. If the pool is being distributed based on who has the most streams, wouldn't that be exactly the same if it's broken down by individual users? Wouldn't the same number of individual users still be streaming the same amount of Drake, Ariana Grande, etc?

I can see where it might feel more rewarding to individual users who listen to new & upcoming artists to be directly contributing, but the end result will still be the same.

Posted in: Saitama begins plans to regulate how to use escalators; prohibit walking up and down See in context

This is so stupid. If you want to prevent walking, then turn up the speed. Japan has the slowest escalators in the world. It's faster to walk up the stairs beside them. Hong Kong is a good example to copy, they are fast and efficient.
