When should a child start riding a bike?
As pictured... As soon as they can balance on a Balance bike, which is quick! They can start riding a peddle bike. Some of my proudest moments watching my boys go from balance to peddle bike!

It's not so bad! UK back from over 11%, back down to 2.5% last month and 2% this month!
Even when it was 135 yen to a pound, visiting Japan prices seemed reasonable.

I think it's reasonable to assume, if someone chooses to live and work in Japan they really ought to be able to speak the local lingo. My experience of Japanese companies is that they expect some level of Japanese proficiency before hiring someone, which again is reasonable.
I used to work in Japan for an American tech company, who offered foreign employees Japanese classes, and Japanese co-workers were required to take TOEIC courses and tests. The only thing I thought was unfair was my co-worker's TOEIC performance contributed to towards their annual performance review...

"Strange how inflation is reported as falling, but prices are still rising......."
Mr Kipling is correct, no mention of the word "falling", only slowing. Prices still increasing but only at a slower rate compared to before. i.e. there is still inflation. If prices are to fall it would require deflation which also not good. However what normally drive prices down is competition to sell goods or services.
I lived in Japan 20 years ago and still visit annually. The cost to ride my local JR or to buy a loaf of bread has not changed much if at all! Consider yourself lucky you are not in the UK!

Agreed, I barely work 35 hours a week for 8M gross salary. That's part time Japanese hours.
Don't forget you get 'Kotsuhi' in Japan, whereas I have a 10 mile (16km) drive into work each day. I recall receiving housing benefit too from work. Swings and roundabouts my friend. All I know is Japan was cheap when we was there in July. Now I can't even buy a Costa without feeling ripped off. It fair to say cost of living in the UK is ridiculous!

I can understand why locals are up in arms about this increase. Being a frequent visitor to Japan for the last 20 years, fuel prices is always cheap compared to the UK. A litre of 'regular' at the reported price is a little over a £1 at the current exchange rate, it's currently around £1.55 a litre in the UK. Last winter I was paying £1.80 per litre. It's bad but it could be a lot worse...
