The fact that such arrests make it regulary to the news is a news in itself. Fascinating and almost heart-warming.

China, Russia or North Korean diplomatic statements and such are always something easy to laught about, but then you remember that mad men or criminal organisations are ruling them. It's just depressing in the end.

Posted in: Record high 181 animal abuse cases reported in 2023, NPA says See in context

As stated , it's about "pets" mostly and just reflects the number of reported violations.

I'm not defending all modern standards from the West, but if you apply some European standards to the Japanese situation (pet shops, cows, chicken, porks), that number would have at least one more unit.

While things are evolving, ryokans are meant for typical Japanese vacations. This mean usually for a couple or family that has only 1 or 2 days off and is paying a lot of money to soak in an onsen or hot bath several times a day, have a nice Japanese style dinner and breakfast, maybe some fun in the small onsen town.

It's definitely not designed for elite international travelers busy visiting around. You're free and right to think that a ryokan is less conveient, but it's just another world.

Posted in: Twitter chaos leaves door open for Meta's rival app See in context

If Meta's twitter app manages one day to get a decend amount of users, this would really mean that politics should stop worrying about personal data collection and creating regulations for the well-being of users that blatantly don't care/know about it. It could be a good test.

Posted in: AI statue designed by Michelangelo on show in Sweden See in context

This statue definetely belongs to a Museum of Science and Technology, but not an Art museum.

The fact that the spokeperson says "I don't think you can define what art is." shows how much they could never work in an Art Museum, because it would be their job to propose a definition and work around it. Don't let allow engineers or programers to act as they know anything except engineering and programming (not saying it's easy stuff!)

@Yubaru

you know, you classify all the cases, put them in categories and count. That's making statistics, only after that can you start to interpret, blame, understand, etc.

Posted in: Kishida grilled in Diet over son's excursion during overseas trip See in context

This should not happen, but honestly, why spend time during the national Diet on such a matter.

Compared to other scandals, this one is minor. Some sense of scale if needed, even by the opposition.

Make Kishida ride the Shinkansen to Hiroshima instead of using a plan or helicopter, and the case will be reimbursed...

Posted in: Malaysia Islamic minister says Bon Odori dance not for Muslims See in context

In the long run, it will be interesting to see if Asian muslims will do better at integration than Arab muslims in Europe, despite the whole different context and time. The need to express such analysis (more than the fundamentalist analysis itself) doesn't sound good.

Posted in: Suga's medical adviser urges tougher anti-virus measures See in context

Time for strong action. Suga should look remember Abe's firm stance and take example. Why not sending the whole population 2 brands new masks ? And also 10 000 yens. This will clear the problem as it did the first time.
