Posted in: World allies mourn Chavez; U.S. urges improved ties See in context

Yes, a great loss for the world indeed. Evo Morales's speech on TV even made me cry. The world needs more leaders like him who can take their stand. R.I.P.

Posted in: Haunted by trauma, tsunami survivors turn to exorcists See in context

I think the most important thing is to believe in something to get over PTSD. Rather than taking some anti-depressants prescribed by some psychiatrists which only make things worse in the end, it is probably better doing that 'exorcism'. These people need psychological help most of all to help them moving on. Only problem is there are hardly any psychologists in this country. Maybe something should be done about that, bring them in from abroad if you have to!

Posted in: Six dead as blizzards hit northern Japan See in context

This was the 2nd worst blizzard I have ever experienced up here. My whole house was shaking from the wind. There was no way I would have gone out in that weather. My deepest condolences to the victims' family.

Posted in: In places where traffic volume is low and securing land is easy, roundabouts can be effective. See in context

We have space, more than enough, up here in Hokkaido. And Hokkaido has zillions of red traffic lights when there is no other car in sight. The sooner we get roundabouts here, the better!

Posted in: Hiroshima to finally get a Costco - too bad you have to pay Y3,000 for parking See in context

I never spend more than 2 hours in Costco but I always spend more than 15,000 Yen. So, no problem for me personally but, as a whole, I can't agree with that new policy. It will give Costco a bad image and I think it might be wiser for them not implementing it.

Posted in: Divers scour Russian lake after meteor strike See in context

That meteor is really scary. I am only glad that nobody got seriously hurt or passed away. Poor Russians, it is so cold there and not having glass must be terrible.

We should protect ourselves:

First: stock food for at least 4 weeks

Second: Stock drinking water for at least 8 weeks

Third: Install a meteorite-deflection device for only 99,999, - Yen (until stocks are exhausted)

Fouth: Cross your fingers that it misses you

Posted in: Shimane town demands pants for Michelangelo's David sculpture See in context

Up here in Hokkaido, there is a park with tons of sculptures of naked women. Nobody ever complained. Maybe the problem stems from jealous men who could never look as handsome as David.

Posted in: Anti-whalers claim early victory against Japanese fleet See in context

Sea Shepherd needs the Japanese whalers otherwise they won't be able to live that luxurious lifestyle anymore. In other words, Japan should just stop whaling. It costs us tax money and those guys get stinky rich.

Wow...I can't believe he is dating Kim Tae Hee. I wonder how that romance started....

I am having problems understanding this: Kim’s agency admits that the two have dated for a month. Rain’s agency neither denies nor confirms it.

Posted in: Abe supports building new nuclear reactors See in context

Very realistic thoughts; no electricity, no Prius. But didn't he say a few days ago that Japan would become nuclear free by 2040? All of a sudden that seems to be a waste of money building nuclear power stations for a mere 27 years.

Posted in: N Korea's Kim says lifting living standards top priority See in context

A real pity that such an article gets so many comments with so much pessimism.

I hope that his speech was serious, and just like Burma / Myanmar, another militarized poorhouse would open up and become a part of the world community. Supporting this path from the outside would be the only right and good way. Open up the economy first, the political system will sooner or later have to follow!

In this sense, a hopeful: Happy New Year, North Korea!
