My deepest sympathy to the family of Tsuneko. I lost my first wife to a teenage drunk driver and I know the pain. I sincerely hope the police keep their promise to prosecute.

Maybe the problem is that the movie producer is intolerant of Islam and disrespected their values.

There are many movies out there that are disrespectful of my values, many from outside of the U.S. but you don't see me going to Washington D.C. and destroying their Embassies. I believe in the freedom of speech more. Islam needs to move into the 21st century just like every other major religion. The fact that we read on this site a couple of weeks ago that they were going to severely punish a mentally disabled young girl for damaging a copy of their Quran is further proof of my statement above, NO tolerance.

Japan's favorite man to hate (Captain Paul Watson) has been making the same statements for many years now. But in this case I am part of the problem as I too love Tuna. Since Tuna are an international creature it is going to be difficult at best to protect them. I fear that tuna may go the way of Beluga caviar, black market only.

I have also had the privilege of meeting Mr. Stanley and he is a fine gentleman and an excellent family man ( met his wife and daughter at the same time). The fact that they say they do not like the group Pussy Riot, but stood up for the girls right of free speech says a lot about the character of these men.

Posted in: 2 Qantas pilots suspended after heated cockpit argument See in context

I am to assume the co-pilot was out of line in arguing.

Actually NO, the first-officer is expected to tell the captain what he thinks now. about 25-30 years ago when the captain was king, they discovered that it was causing more accidents and incidents compared to when the captain was required to listen to the rest of the flight crew (first officer, the flight attendants, the ground handlers, others connected with the flight). In the U.S. the airlines were required to adopt what is called CRM (cockpit resource management) and the safety level went up (CRM is pretty much world-wide now).

I for one applaud the crew for arguing it out, if one felt that strongly about the safety of the flight that he was willing to face disciplinary measures then good for him, he put the safety of himself, his crew, the passengers and other people on the ground above everything else, I'll fly in his aircraft anytime.

I suspect the problem here is that the two guys didn't keep the argument private from the passengers or other crew and that is why we have heard about it.

Naoko Idesawa-ItoAug. 17, 2012 - 05:43PM JST

Anyone who noticed babies (or animals) left in cars should be allowed (or even required) to break the windows and

help them.

In many communities in the U.S. this is allowed, Hence the next poster I am quoting . . .

mark monsonAug. 18, 2012 - 07:49AM JST

So my question is, how many Joe blows walked by the auto in a three hour time period not giving a second thought to the child's condition?! I faced the Same situation here in the U.S I broke the car window ,called the cops and 2 hours lator (mom) shows up! She left the parking lot with a new pair of braclets via of the cops. The child was turned over to child protective services.

And in many communities this action is even allowed to save the life of an animal.

To assume that every man could be a pedophile is absolutely insulting. But it is going to get worse before it gets better, they will start making any man traveling with a child prove his relationship to the child. Or how about the US with those public sex offender registries, will they start denying those people service and put them on the no-fly lists (OK there are some really bad people on those lists, but not all). Then what about long-haul trains and buses? Where does it stop?

If the parents are asking for this, then the parents are not doing a good enough job of teaching their children how to be safe. Maybe it's time to raise the minimum age of a passenger who flies alone and require a companion for any underage flier if there is that much danger in an aircraft.

From my step-daughter a several year veteran of a major U.S. city PD. I hope this helps some.

An illegal gun is destroyed period.

A legal gun used in an illegal act, Destroyed. The legal owner was careless by allowing it to fall into the wrong hands or the legal owner used it improperly so they lose their right to own it.

A legal gun used in what is determined to be a legal manner will be returned to it's registered owner if said owner wishes it returned.

This policy is removing hundreds of illegal weapons out of this city every year as the legal gun, legal use only accounts for 1-3% of the guns confiscated. She was not allowed to say the exact number, but it is scary and I for one am glad to see the illegal guns gone.

I surely think that guns have responsibility whatever. That's why those guns have to be scrapped melted to metal. finally.

Yes the illegal guns used in an illegal act are destroyed, actually any illegal gun will be destroyed when it is no longer needed for evidence. But any legal gun that is used in what is determined to be a legal act of defense, whether or not it resulted in a death will be returned to it's owner.

It's not much but at least the destruction of illegal weapons keeps the amount of them down in the criminal world.
