Posted in: Japan wants U.N. emergency talks if N Korea launches rocket See in context

Japan will try and use this to get a permanent seat on the security council - something that will NEVER happen and never should.

Perhaps the UNSC could benefit from having some permanent members with a "pacifist" constitution...

Instead the US and the UNSC seem intent on having Japan modify it's current constitution to allow it to contribute aid visa-vie troops and security forces for policing and peace keeping BEFORE they even consider giving Japan the status within the council...

In consideration of their already disproportionate contributions to the UN's ongoing efforts worldwide Japan is fully deserving of a UNSC permanent seat...

AFAIC... Asia needs a more even representation on the SC than the only current permanent member from Asia...

Posted in: Miyavi and melody. wed in shotgun marriage See in context

Definition: A shotgun marriage is a marriage that is forced upon the participants usually because the bride is pregnant.

Doesn't sound like anyone was "FORCED" into marriage here... Is the dictionary or google search function broken at JT again - - or is this just a cute way to attract readership by using sensational & misleading headlines...

It could indeed be a "shotgun" marriage but there is not enough care and attention to details ( read as FACTS ) in this article to justify the headline - do your jobs as reporters and stop "Popularizing" terminology to either suit your cultural point of view or to simply attract readers...

VERY poor Journalism JT - you can do better than this will just a little more effort...

Can somebody please please explain to me why he used Darvish in that stress situation ??

Darvish, while young, is not "inexperienced", is currently considered one of the top 3 pitchers in Japan and has plenty of "big game" experience including Japanese Championship Games...

I too drew a gasp when Hara threw him into the 9th and went a little "silent" when he left him in for the 10th...

What I didn't know at the time - certainly Hara did - was Darvish's stats during the series... "http://web.worldbaseballclassic.com/stats/index.jsp?grid=wbc_leader_pitching" shows that many of Darish's stats were better than Matsuzaka's...

Darvish had <2W & 1L> - "2.08" ERA - "20" Strike outs / 13 innings - allowed "7" hits - {4} runs - walked <6> - "0" HRs....... items in < > indicate worse record than Daisuke - "better" - {tied}....

Check em out - perhaps they are part of the reasoning behind Hara's moves...

Regardless... the job got done and I am proud as peach that Japan won today... After that "flag planting" incident I think Korea made their own Karma....

Posted in: Honda sells its F-1 team to Brawn See in context

Well... Honda more or less set themselves up for this downfall a long time ago by seeking a 0% outside sponsor program - - he Honda F1 Team had no outside sponsors and so as soon as things got tough and the corporate funds started to run dry it was game over...

Not even Ferrari with their bazillion dollar budget for F1 can survive without substantial sponsorship from outside sponsors...

Ross will get it right but I fear that they may not see much success with their current line-up behind the wheel.... Button has simply NEVER performed up to his hype as a wunderkid and Barrichello is a bit long in the tooth...

Under the right circumstances they might score points but this team will need to make substantial changes in light of the evolution of the sport starting in 2010...

Wow... talk about late to the party... 176 comments and no patients to go through them all myself but.....

For all those Bush haters ( rightly or wrongly ) here, abroad or in Iraq itself ANSWER me this...

What would have happened to the same reporter if he would have thrown his shoes at Saddam Hussein while he was in power ?????

Sometimes, people forget just how bad they had it - not to say it's nice now or that the ends justify the means but in Saddam's day that guys head would be on a pike somewhere 2 minutes after the first loafer took to the air...

Posted in: Aso evasive about his schedule See in context

This is hilarious... Aso is intent on not kowtowing to the media and they have been throwing a bit of a tantrum lately about this trying to get him to show "respect" to them because they think they are all powerful - HA...

This is the 3rd story in as many days about complaints from the media that Aso is not "playing" the game that they want him to play... Look for the stories to start to get nasty as they try to bully public opinion into forcing Aso into doing what it is "they" want...

Keep bobbing an weaving Taro... I love to see these little crybaby reporters in Japan whine because their story might actually call for some reporting visa-vie asking questions - investigating - paying off the bell-hop... Get off yer fat lazy backsides and do some actual reporting rather than counting on press releases to write the story for you...

Posted in: Australia invests in whale research to challenge Japan See in context

I think the final report has already been written hasn't it ???? Why don't they just give the money to some poor aborigines or to prop up the public education system and then just go ahead publish the report anyways...

The carbon footprint left by this "researching the research program" will likely do as much harm as the killing of the wales but to a far greater spectrum of wildlife - especially in such a sensitive are as the Antarctic / Southern Oceans...

and speaks "quite" good English...

Saw him on one of those late night "show us how good (?) your English is" programs about 6 months ago with some pretty talentos that had lived abroad for a while and he really surprised me with the depth of his vocabulary and near native intonation.... Not jinglishy at all... Anybody know his International background - I think someone suggested he spent some time in the USA ??

Because we all know he isn't scared to open his mouth to speak - he might actually have the best chance for some real "statesmanship" abroad...

Cheers,

Posted in: Japan ranked 5th most peaceful country in world See in context

so make up a bunch of hard-to-measure standards, just so that you can put your beloved japan at or near the top...

This "report" has been compiled by the "Economist Intelligence Unit" - a division of the Economist Newspaper group in the UK...

There are no Japanese trying to blow their own horns or making up "hard-to-measure standards" to make themselves look good... All countries where judged by the same standards regardless if it's dribble anyways...

Myself - even though I take no great credence in it - find it an interesting read nonetheless...
