I'm sure they hated every single delicious bite of the repeated orders of chutoro, Ootoro, maguro and oh yeah, whale. Four hours...I don't spend four hours at an Izakaya in Tokyo...I think they may have been converted to carnivores...

2010, doesn't look like a very popular year for Japan on a global scale. Toyota, The cove, Futenma, possible Blue Fin fishing ban, whale "research", corruption and arrest of politicians. It seems the world is being informed of the activities of Japan, first hand...

sem,

Here, I'll help you a bit:

"Imperialism, defined by The Dictionary of Human Geography, is "the creation and maintenance of an unequal economic, cultural and territorial relationship, usually between states and often in the form of an empire, based on domination and subordination."

Please tell me where the IMPERIALISM exists regarding Okinawa?

economic - There is no restriction or bias regarding the economic stance of the military in Okinawa. In fact, the military personnel are robbed off base as their rent fluctuates from tenant to tenant as it's based on rank vice property type, as you better believe there is a trusty US military housing pay chart on all real estate agents desks in Okinawa.

cultural - Well Japan is another country, and regardless of where you are in the world, cultural differences will occur in the region, if you are not from that region therefore, these issues occurs regardless of occupation globally, and is not only isolated to a "US military" presence.

territorial relationship - The only thing that has to happen is Japan has to ask the US to leave. That's all. This will not happen, as it will cost the Japanese far more to provide for their own defense, than have the US presence. And remember, the US didn't simply come to the shores of Okinawa and storm the island at random. There was a little something called WWII that was occuring, and the IMPERIALISM you may be referring to is most probablu better suited to examples such as Nan-King by the IJA.

SemperFi,

Your anti-American views are evident in all your posts. This is clearly about money and the land Futenma occupies, vice the "safety" for the Okinawan people. Those greedy landowners/developers could care less about the "noisy base", they just want the land to develop the property. It would be hilarious if Futenma were to close, and be reinhabited by the JSDF, while flying joint missions with the US. Too Funny. I really think these people do not understand what they're asking for. Close all bases in Okinawa....an insane statement and that would lead to the utter demise for the economy on the island. If they hate the military so much there, then don't take their money at off base establishments, and don't work on the base. Require all US military personnel and their families to only live on base, and you will see the droves of Okinawans crying for the economy. Hey, it already happened when there was a curfew established a few years ago for all military and civilian personnel in Okinawa. The businesses were screaming that they were dying without these customers. Remember, these people built homes around the base, the base wasn't built around the homes.

Ladies, remember not to confuse romance and finance. In order to live in a certain lifestyle, it takes hard work and alot of money. In order to get that money, takes more time and dedication to the office. Therefore, don't ask for Gucci handbags and to stay at home and watch TV all day, and vacations or partying when the slave gets home. Completely spoiled and unrealistic view of life...

USAF,

So let me understand this correctly. This obsese, wealthy man purchases TWO SEATS for the simple notion that "Southwest flights are cheap.", and he wanted to "indulge himself". He was right about the indulgence, but it was more at the cost of his waistline, than on his seat preferences. The guy is as big as a house, and needs two seats. If you believe this story USAF, I have a bridge to sell you too...hahahahaha. I've also incuded the following link for you to see your "slim" buddy's size in a normal seat.

Now imagine trying to fit this man into an airplane seat. Case closed!!! You lose!!! hahahahaha

USAFdude,

Maybe you should read your own links. He purchased TWO SEATS!!! For what I imagine...Oh yes I know...him and his blubber. Case closed!!! Bring the cherry, as I'm sure you love your share of sugar along with your buddy Smith. hahahaha!!!

USAFdude,

You are too funny! The guy is as big as a house, and if you read the article correctly, you'd see that Southwest did indeed let him fly....after he bought TWO SEATS on his following flight. NEXT!!! (with sugar on top)

USAFdude and mikemc,

Of course this guy is going to say he was just fine. It was his blubber he was contorting into place. Regardless of the folds and crevases, in his flesh the plain (no pun intended) is that he is just too big to fit in one seal. Like a fat girl in size 0 jeans. It just don't work...next!!!

USAFdude,

Maybe you should find out more about the incident before making inaccurate statements. "Southwest says it "Customer of Size" policy require travelers must be able to fit safely and comfortably in one seat or make other arrangements" http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100215/ap_en_mo/us_people_kevin_smith

USAF, this means that he has to "fit comfortably" not squeeze, hold his breath or spill over into the seat of the passenger next to him. Therefore, I'm sure his armrests did not completely go down. The guy needs two seats for pete sake. Do you really think he was able to fit into one, and lower the armrests down properly? I have nothing against people who are overweight, I just wish they could help themselves by losing the weight if possible, as it's overall better for their health.

Posted in: Actor-director Kevin Smith ejected from plane for being oversized See in context

Can you imagine if they forced the armrests down on his blubber? They'd be making an emergency landing 10 minutes into the flight, as both armrest of the seats pinned down would form a tourniquet over Mr. Smith's enormous girth. Maybe then, and he'd quit dreaming of peppermint pies, and big macs.

Posted in: Hatoyama says he'll start from scratch on Futenma relocation plan See in context

Crime Minister HatoMama is only prolonging the inevitable, because he probably doesn't see himself in office in May 10. If he does make it that far, he'll push it back a few more months to pass on to another stiff "elected" to the post. He has no ability to make any decisions at all, but once the dust settles, the Marines will be relocated. And if he lets a small village decide national policy, he's definitely been on that UFO trip with the Mrs, and is truly not of this earth...the nickname "Alien" suits him perfectly.

vulcan, I think your statements regarding African Americans and voting for President Obama for a "free handout" is an extremely offensive statement. What "handout" are you referring to? I imagine he was elected because he was the best candidate for the job. You seem to have a chip on your shoulder regarding minorities. Or perhaps your screenname says it all...that would explain your complete lack of human emotion and understanding.

Posted in: Hatoyama says Nago mayoral result shows will of the people See in context

Yuri, also understand that you are misreading the article. The stance is of the elected candidate's premise of not abiding by the relocation of Marines in Okinawa. He did what every single politician does worldwide, told the people anything they wanted to hear. If it's a "hot topic", jump on the band wagon. He will change his tune once he undersatnds the amount of money that is envolved with these bases, and costly construction projects with the parties involved.. ;) In other words, he will have a change of heart in the future, I assure you.

Posted in: Hatoyama says Nago mayoral result shows will of the people See in context

Yuri, you don't seem to understand that Nago does not decide national policy. At the end of the day, if Hatoyama is even still in office in May, the Marines will move to Futenma, and Hatoyama will blame the enormous pressure of the US for his indecision on the issue. Overall, business as usual...So just get used to understanding that this is part of the world you live in on Okinawa (as a direct result of Japanese agression in WWII), and hug a gaijin, you'll enjoy it.
