Part of the punishment should be to have both of them experience what they did to the poor child (RIP)

@Antiquesaving Yes, spot on

Like I said on my earlier comment, the videos I saw looked like the guy was running what seemed like a proper shop.. I think what really pinned him is the place got a "menu" with the prices

If only he stayed low key he could've kept going

There are a lot of people who run a side business who know better and do not get bothered by the coppers or the taxman

Based on the reactions i see, it seems like the term "licence" is taken too far away from what it actually mean in practice

This licence that you need to have is not impossible to get, it's actually just a certification from the government that shows they've checked and you actually can do whatever the certification is for on a acceptable level

Even manicurists have this

I reckon instead of calling it licence they should change it to "Certification"

My Vietnamese friend showed me some videos posted on social media about this dude and his place and I can see why the Bobbies had to do something.. The place is almost like a proper shop.

@CaptDingleheimer

You don't think that's the case in other countries?

Those tourists who buy these toys are also mostly adults

We may think that Japan's situation is worse but I believe this is a universal thing in general

In Hollywood for example

It took years before Harvey Weinstein was finally held responsible for his actions

There are always desperate people will do/give anything or agree to anything to get a job or become famous

And there are always these people who will take advantage of these kinds of people

Maybe couple or a few will speak out but i guarantee you most will keep their mouths shut

It is through these kinds of services.

https://buyee.jp/?lang=en

There are similar counterparts in US (and most likely in other countries too) where they can "buy" on your behalf for a fee.

https://www.myus.com/

People usually use this if the seller/vendor doesn't ship abroad or only allow local buyers.

What the hell is going on here

Wearing a mask just hides your face

We can still smile, laugh, cry, and make faces even with our masks on

Not sure who is dumber, the teacher or the student

Maybe both

Damn these people responsible for her death

Lots of burning questions around this case

I've read somewhere that she was already scheduled for deportation but she contested the decision that's why she went back to detention place for an extended period of time.. They said technically, she is not being "detained" anymore as she could have left Japan anytime she wanted. That's the immigration's stance apparently.

May she rest in peace.

Can't really see yet how this will be as the hay fever season is still peaking

I personally haven't worn a mask for a very long time now unless those times that i was politely asked to do so but I've been wearing one for the past week because i am suffering from hay fever

Not having and having uniforms have both good and not so good side on it.

But this particular case can easily avoided.. You can actually wear anything you want under your uniform..

Most of us wear the warm clothes under and as long as the we don't wear anything over our uniforms, there won't be any problem.

Not sure though what the ladies do.. I can only speak for the men.

@thepersoniamnow

does it matter if i am japanese or not?

don't believe everything you hear; don't be a victim of sensationalised news

if you're japanese then you should also know that there are a lot of japanese fathers who can't have access to their children even on the phone or don't even know where they are.

I CAN NOT and DO NOT understand how any parent can not make the effort to communicate with their child!

@wtfjapan

you are not wrong, but there are also a lot of foreigners who are smart enough to know and fight for their rights and was able sort it out.

what i'm trying to say is there are also foreigners who would just complain about it but didn't actually do anything and just use the "because i am a gaijin so i have no rights in japan" excuse.

i'm not saying japanese spouses are never at fault, but if you let someone do these kinds of things to you, it is partly your fault. it's a general truth. doesn't matter which nationality or ethnicity you belong to.

no its foreigners complaining of Japanese who take their kids to Japan without their consent. Now Japan has agreed such practices are illegal under the Hague Convention they now need to enforce the law when Japanese nationals break these laws

Posted in: Japan probing abuse of health insurance system by foreign residents See in context

it's not a perfect system but it's a system that works

It is a very simple system in my opinion ---- if you are a resident of japan, it is mandatory that you should be in the health insurance system (through your employer or the "public insurance") ---- handled by the city/town/ward or whatever locality you are registered at (your juuminhyo) ---- insurance fees based on your income (or household income) ---- that is why you have to properly update your "juuminihyo" if you are moving somewhere especially abroad.

take note that the word used is "resident" as it doesn't matter which nationality you hold.

if you don't like it, feel free to leave Japan, foreign nationals have that choice, japanese people don't (unlucky)
