You are quite the humble guy, arent you haha? good luck

Anyone can get themselves some global equities.

All you need at minimum is a bank who wants your business, and about 1,000 yen to invest.

And yeah, it irks me when people complain about the “rich”, because we are all in this together, and most people define “rich” as people having twice as much wealth as they do. By this definition, many many ordinary people are also “rich” and being unfairly slandered

the rich are getting richer.

It’s not their (our?) fault.

It’s the policy makers who are enacting the bad policies.

Please be careful to blame the policy makers, not the policy takers.

Yes Wallace, but if you read the article you’ll see that the type mentioned is not that type that Japan still catches.

From what I can see, trickle down economics means that the rich piss on everyone else.

The Abenomics recipe is to devalue the yen, making everyone poorer, but the weaker yen does boost the value of export oriented stocks so owners get some compensation.

Overall I think it’s a silly recipe.

Look at the US market. All time highs, and the US dollar is also strong. The US does have an ongoing problem with inflation too, but at least their currency hasn’t been chopped in half versus other major currencies.

A proper supply side revolution here in Japan would lead to both a higher stock market and a higher valued currency, while keeping inflation low (low like it was before…)

I personally thought the yen would have to be a lot weaker than it is (weak though it is) for this to happen, so well done to all of you who kept the faith.

(I’m not going to be buying myself though, quite happy with my global equities.)

With less whaling going on these days, seems likely that increasing whale numbers is the actual cause.

In fact i am glad the gdp is dropping. Maybe this will finally stop the government from constantly wasting our tax money

On the contrary, they are only going to spend more. Print and spend, that’s all they know.

These two sentences are not equivalent:

he would tell Russia to attack NATO allies he considered delinquent.

the line that drew the most outrage — encouraging Russia “to do whatever the hell they want.”

You’d think it was an American presidential election year, the way the media are spreading disinformation like this.

Wonder if the IMF told the BOJ to stop buying extra government debt too?

Printing more money while hiking interest rates would be nonsensical… I trust that the IMF ought know of the huge money printing that continues.

This booming market wealth will be trickling down any day now right?

Yen goes down, yen denominated assets go up, it’s a wash.

Rather than moan about “rentiers” and “late-stage capitalism” like always, how about you open a nisa account yourself and invest 1,000 yen a month in foreign assets, or as much as you can spare.

(Then you can thank me on your 30th birthday.)

We help other creatures when they need us.

So a Lion or Cheetah takes down an antelope or something on the Savanah.

You help the antelope?

Come on, you have been watching too many Disney movies I suspect.

Phew! No need for sympathy or concern then, eh?

If people wanted to do something to help, go ahead, but it is not the role of government to go spending money on even moving ice so that non endangered species can escape… especially when they escaped by themselves anyway.

prompting concern from environmental groups,

Environmental groups ought know that in the natural world, death is a part of life…

Instead of revising the law and trying to drag opposition parities into it, how about we just have a general election instead, and the politicians who are elected can decide what to do?

If the voters still elect low quality candidates, more fool them, but there are more important things for lawmakers to be thinking about than how to prevent the current rotten crop from misbehavior.

Posted in: Toyota chief apologizes for cheating on testing at group company – again See in context

Maybe the testing requirements may be too severe or unobtainable.

That’s an interesting one.

If the requirements are too severe or unobtainable, the requirements / regulations are useless, as it would imply that they are being broadly ignored by all.

It’s a possibility.

Sometimes regulations do get out of date, and make zero sense in a modern context, but everyone says “shikataganai” that is the way the regulations are…

(At the end of the day, I personally would trust Toyota to build a good car than I would trust the authorities to ensure their regulations and requirements pass muster.)

Corona would have been a rough patch, but in normal times they must be earning a steady stream of revenues no? Japanese people seem to like dividend stocks, I’d guess this would be that sort of type.

The proceeds from the sale for the central government will be appropriated for the reconstruction of Japan's northeast, devastated by a massive earthquake and tsunami in 2011.

W… wait… 2011 was 13 years ago. What specifically is the money to be spent on? Tohoku is a big area…

What about paying down some government debt for … for a change…?

“We recognize that not only people at the testing site but also management did not have proper understanding of certification,” he said.

Good.

Honestly, almost no one wants to do a poor job.

But there are pressures in organizations that lead to people saying screw it and taking theme wrong options.

Useless management is ultimately the root of this problem.

The tough part is to find that useless management and replace it with better management. Organizations are very difficult to change, because a lot of people are not equipped to change. It seems easier to apply a bandaid solution, pretend all is rosy - and then maybe change jobs and leave the dirty laundry behind for someone else to deal with.

Good luck to Toyota management.

The BOJ will likely tighten its policy around then, as well.

Good luck!

Indeed they may “tighten” back to… 0% interest rates, and continued net JGB purchases of 10s of trillions of yen per year.

At least, other short term speculators may also help create some temporary volatility in the yen’s favour… we could use some reprieve, even if it does prove temporary…
