Posted in: If security bills that would allow Japan to use its Self-Defense Forces to defend an ally are passed in the Diet, do you think Japan would be compelled to fight a war alongside the U.S.? See in context

We all the same ideologies, but not the same view when it comes to war. For Japan being obligated to fight with the U.S. should be no different than other countries around the world.

Why should Japan be obligated?

Posted in: 4-year-old boy dies after being hit by van; driver arrested See in context

It may be that the reporter mentioned unemployed Chinese national because of China's push for power. This driver is a victim of his own country's power grabbing.

Being unemployed can only be mentioned for the fact that IF he was employed this possibly could have been avoided altogether. We cannot, however, conclude this was totally unavoidable. If it wasn't this driver, then perhaps another. Possibly a Japanese national. We would need more evidence to make a better judgement.

It sounds like the parents were a little too care-free to be responsible for their own child. I myself am paranoid of my own 4 year old's protection when going shopping. You or I cannot assume everything is going to be safe, as safety is highly boasted of this country.

All it takes is a small mistake from even the most caring, kind person for their to be an injury to your loved ones, or worse.

Also, if this had turned out differently and the child was safe, there is still the possibility of other people becoming harmed to avoid the child.

I just left a company meeting. Mosly foriegners, very few from the U.S. I live in Japan, and still haven't learned to 'like' soccer. Non of our workers ever mentioned soccer. I don't think anyone cares tbh. Some may, but i think the majority of U.S. citizens still prefer American football over soccer imo. Anyhow, keep on trying Japan. It doesn't matter with me either way.

I had a collector come 2 years ago. He wanted me to pay for NHK.

I was already making payments through my cable TV service. It also had NHK channels.

Tell me why I should pay twice for a TV channel that I already paid for?

I stoutly refused the collector, and he did not have a strong argument against me.

I'll eat wasabi directly, with water. It sounds delicious.

On another note, I already eat garlic raw, with water. It burns my throat. I've found the marbled/purple variety to be my favorite. Also, if you buy the Aomori garlic, you will not be disappointed!

There may be a lacking information with wasabi, or I could be wrong. But I have researched garlic, and it's a great herb for preventing many diseases/viruses etc...

Posted in: Japan's dated, smoky cafes unfazed by Starbucks success See in context

“The way they make (coffee) is totally wrong, it’s not tasty,”

For me, it's not always about 'taste'. It can be about richness, and even bitterness within the coffee that I prefer.

Starbucks no smoking policy is always a win win situation. I can't stand smoke, and I guess neither do they. I would still go to Starbucks, even if I don't like their coffee. (As long as they still have the no smoking policy.)

Smokers always have the option of smoking when they want at a smoking cafe. Not fair for the non-smokers. This is just my opinion, I respect smokers if they want to smoke, just not when smoke settles and smells my clothing up, my lungs as well.

so, he takes a little girl, and assumes safety for her? He couldn't take her to the store worker so they could announce over the microphone about a little girl who they just found. And if they don't find the parents, then let the store call the police about the situation.

This guy deserves to be prosecuted for severe lack of judgement. Or he had other bad intentions, which is could very well be the case.

Posted in: What’s wrong with English education in Japan? Pull up a chair See in context

Tokiyo and Kyushubill,

The main principle is still this: 3rd world countries, where English can be taught for free, learn English within a few years.

Why is Japan 'The Exception' to being able to learn English? My main point is that Japan is more complex in it's view towards anything foreign. If it doesn't look, act, or sound Japanese they are in a state of confusion, or disbelief.

You can say anything you want, but why do they still have difficulty learning English? If they are so smart, they could speak it with no problem. I've had to learn their language, and it's been no problem for me.

Why do other countries excel in English as a second language? Japan's culture is one of complexity, and difficulty. Everything is combined with these elements, and English is no exception.

It's not a decline of culture, as much as it is an increase of available technology. More durable, cheaper, easier floors can be made. You have to be more careful when walking on, or around tatami. It's not built to be an everyday room, used for everyday life. I'm not an experienced person, but I'm sure it costs more to purchase, and to maintain as well.
