Posted in: As Duterte embraces China, Abe set to roll out warm welcome See in context
RealCDN at Oct. 22, 2016 - 08:29AM JST Dufarte is a fool. Entertaining for awhile, but his time will pass. China must be laughing a lot about him behind closed doors.
He is a lot smarter than you give him credit for. Simplistic anaylsis of his intention and thinking is what I'm seeing in quite a few posts here.

Duterte is a much smarter man than you people give him credit for. He's playing both sides to his (country's) advantage. I would expect much more sophistication from the JT crowd.

Poor woman. It's sad that she grew up and lived in a culture where she saw no other option to get out of a really bad situation, other than ending it all at such a young age.

This article seems to use 'lithium' and 'lithium-ion' interchangeably, when they are in fact different batteries.
Lithium batteries are primary, non-rechargeable. Whereas li-ion are secondary, rechargeable batteries, which is what is in question here.

Only the Chinese government is capable of spinning this as a sinister plot of Japan to invade Africa.
Wrong. It is interpreted as Japan's now found military ambition overall. You'll see the same statement from China with regards to Japan's meddling in affairs of the South China Sea.

Finally!!!! Though 110km/h is still below a lot of countries but at least it's a start.
Parts of I-15 in Utah in the US has speed limit of 136km/h. I didn't feel the urge to go that fast, because the thought of burning more fuel than I need to turns me off.

The way I see it, if Abe and his cronies truly have the interest of the Japanese people at heart, he would focus his efforts on reviving the Japanese economy and deal with the scores of domestic issues facing Japan.
With the US presence in Japan still, I don't expect China or North Korea to make any drastic military move. Let the big boys duke it out elsewhere. Focus on improving the lives of your own people.
Even, as I suspect, his ultimate goal is the reliving of past Japanese glory, you cannot do that on the back of a faltering economy. A strong economy is the backbone of military might. The US knew it, China recognizes that as well. Abe just doesn't get it.

a need to have aircraft there to evacuate Japanese citizens from nearby trouble spots or areas hit by natural disasters
So which is it?

Posted in: Thailand's king dies at 88 See in context
the Royal family of Thailand is one of the richest monarchy in the world , their wealth is estimated at around $40billion yet much of the country lives in poverty. No wonder they've got laws to forbid you speaking ill of the monarchy in Thailand, disgraceful.
"give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime"
What do you expect from him? Sell off all his wealth and distribute it to all his people? How much would each person receive in a country of 68 million over the 70 years of his reign. What then, after the money is spent?
Instead, he took the far sighted approach to deceloping his country's agriculture and economy, working tirelessly to build up Thailand's economy over the decades. Not to mention preventing multiple bloodsheds from military coups.
I'm not Thai, but I have deep respect for what he did for his people.

uh, yeah thats real likely, gaijindesu.
Granted it's a different airline, but yes, I got bumped from a flight before, they put me on the next flight and gave me a voucher for a free flight anywhere they fly.
I successfully redeemed that voucher for a flight that cost three times what that original flight cost me.

Kicked off the flight due to ANA's failure! I'd be fuming
I don't know if they were involuntarily removed, or perhaps ANA offered to put them in business class on the next flight shortly after, plus two tickets to anywhere in the world ANA flies, and they happily take up the offer?

Airlines routinely overbook. On the rare occasion when ALL passengers show up for a full flight, someone WILL get bumped, through no fault of their own.
I always volunteer to be bumped when I can afford the delay. I've gotten free tickets for being inconvenienced multiple times.

Posted in: Osaka train driver apologizes to Japanese passengers for ‘having many foreigners’ on board See in context
@Bill Adams
the reason the train was so crowded was because of the large number of international travellers
Except he didn't actually say international travelers (which could also mean Japanese traveling abroad), did he?
He used a somewhat loaded word - foreigner. While it's not as bad as gaijin (outsider), it's still something he should have avoided.

Maybe he didn't think making a distinction between locals and foreigners is such a big deal, but then perception is reality, even if you didn't mean it that way. Like Cleo said, he should have just apologized for the train being crowded. Period.
Or worse, he knew it may be inappropriate, but had the mistaken notion that since he said it in Japanese, no foreigner would understand him anyway.

Just because a blind drunk falls off the tracks, doesn't mean the rail company is to blame. You think those barriers are free?
I wasn't even thinking about this as a liability issue. Like I said, people fall onto tracks for many reasons. Suicide, murder, overcrowded platform, playful kids with inattentive parents, Pokemon Go players, etc.
