What sort of government would dictate how many babies people should have? An evil communist regime that's who. Next, they will try to copy Japan's solution for shrinking workforce: Robots, AI and drones.

Another day, more Japan-hating from SK. They are moving closer and closer to communist China by the day. Almost identical now. Only a matter of time before Trump gives them an ultimatum: stop hating Japan or we will stop protecting you.

Posted in: Abe mum on reports he nominated Trump for Nobel Peace Prize See in context

There is no need for PM Abe to admit or deny anything. This is just Opposition parties trying to cause trouble. They are so small they sound like a mosquito in the Diet. PM Abe has excellent relations with Trump. And Trump HAS been a great President. The USA and Japan are the worlds closest allies. What do people want PM Abe to say?

Posted in: U.S. auto dealers worry Trump will impose tariffs on imported cars See in context

USA cars are gas guzzlers. Too big, no good quality and Japanese won't want them, even if all tariffs are zero. Trump is a great President, but he is getting bad advice in this issue.

Posted in: Cost of 2020 Tokyo Olympic ceremonies up 40% See in context

I am puzzled at all the panic. An increase in Olympic budget would be factored in at the start. This increase (40%) is small, compared to other Olympics where the costs have even tripled. Think of the Big picture. Enormous tourist boom for Japan, new hotels, sports facilities, free advertising of Japan all around the world (food, companies, cars etc). Not to mention a massive jobs boom that will pour billions of yen into the economy through income taxes.

It's not like Japan has to borrow money from overseas, and then be paying it off for decades, like happened in places like Canada. Its all self funded.

Excellent nomination by PM Abe. Trump destroyed ISIS, stop the missiles flying over Hokkaido and is dealing with evil Iran. Obama could achieve none of this. But he even won the Nobel.

I now hope Trump nominates PM Abe for the prize in 2020!!

Posted in: N Korea says Japanese abductee alive in Pyongyang See in context

And what will Abe san offer in return? Kim doesn't meet foreign leaders for free.

Big Japanese investment, once ALL abductees have been accounted for. Japanese government can invest in NK airports, shinkansen, hospitals, set up food manufacturing plant etc. But the PM Abe-Chairman Kim Summit will negotiate all the deals first.

All Japanese abductees lived privileged lives in Pyongyang

I doubt this. It is likely they are in house prison, and desperately wish to come home. Only NK elite have life of mega luxury.

Posted in: N Korea says Japanese abductee alive in Pyongyang See in context

Leave them be already.

Never. The issue is NOT resolved. PM Abe has vowed many times that he will not rest until each and every abductee has been returned home. I pray Chairman Kim comes to Tokyo to meet PM Abe for the big Summit soon.

Posted in: Activists file suit to stop dolphin hunting in Japan See in context

Dolphins are NOT endangered. Fact. They are abundant. Furthermore, they are ravenous eaters and deplete the oceans of fish. Tuna and all fishes are now becoming scarce due to dolphins preying on them. Secondly, dolphin meat is delicious, especially when grilled. I bet most people who are complaining have never had the chance to sample it.

Posted in: Japan to recognize indigenous Ainu people for first time See in context

Recognizing an ethnic minority as an indigenous people could undermine the Japanese national identity and divide the nation.

Wrong. Recognizing an ethnic minority makes Japan stronger. Having the Ainu, Ryukyuan and Japanese ethnic groups living in harmony for centuries, shows just how strong the Japanese Nation is. This will be shown beautifully in Tokyo 2020, with cultural performances.

Posted in: Japan to recognize indigenous Ainu people for first time See in context

Nice move by Abe Cabinet. Japan is a nation proud of the groups that make it great, and does not have racial conflict as in West. Ainu people are respected, and provide culture and many words of Tohoku and Hokkaido. I hope they will be showcased in Tokyo 2020!

Stop dolphin hunting.

Easy to say, but what jobs do you propose the dozens of fishermen should then be given? Perhaps as Wakayama-Ken government officers? They are not desk workers. Fishing for dolphins is their livelihood. It is all they have done for generations.

Brilliant news, the previous Quarter was simply a “blip”. Things are ticking along nicely in Japan, all-time record agriculture exports and record tourism are helping in this great boom.

Cut welfare or Japan is gonna be screwed.

Wrong and wrong. Strong, developed economies can afford to have a Welfare State. Japan will continue taking care of elderly and those in need.

Great photo. It captures beautifully the passion and emotion PM Abe and Cabinet have for their Nation. No need to be ashamed of that. Japan is back.

With South Korea being increasingly aggressive, North Korea sending missiles towards Japan, Russia difficult, and Communist China constantly threatening to Japan, it is vital to rewrite the out of date constitution, to defend against these present threats. Japan needs to build up her military to guarantee protection of Japanese citizens in the most dangerous part of the world.

This is a nonsense. Olympics should never be used for politics, which is what the Koreas are trying to do. It is purely about sport. This is purely being done to take the spotlight off Japan, and attempt to have the world focus on Korea “feelgood story”.

Unless you are constitutionally ONE nation, you simply cannot compete under one flag. IOC will never allow it.

All good measures on the table, all of them I proposed last week. Another would be drastically refuce the number of SK business and tourist visas to Japan, by about 90 percent. Order Japanese to cease all non-vital travel to SK. Expel some SK diplomats from Japan.

All these options on the table will force SK government to back down and declare the high court decision to seize Japanese company assets void.

Lavish wedding fit for a King? Huge money gifts? While Nissan workers were struggling to get any payrise! Ghosn was a real “man of the people”... sure!! I bet its tough in prison he has to eat riceball not caviar every meal, and drink water not champagne!

So, a dirty old man starts a relationship with a teenage girl, takes a photo up her skirt and she is the one that gets arrested? Japan is a strange place.

That 29 year old man is innocent. Nothing illegal about him dating a 16 year old girl. She knew what she was doing. She probably said she was older anyway. The girl is the guilty one for extorting cash.

Akie Today  07:02 am JST Abe needs a new start of dealing with neighbors. Don't call around the world, just call neighbors, as simple as that.

PM Abe wants to host a big Summit for Chairman Kim, principally to negotiate the return of Japanese kidnappees, in return for Japanese big investment. But Kim refused to attend a summit. That is why Trump must do the negotiations on behalf of Japan. So far, he is doing very well.
