ogtob is right, Japan does have checks. I got one from Softbank for 500 yen when they leaked my data online a few years back. So ”much” for redress... ;-)

assault charges will probably weigh heavier on the suspect than the robbery. They don't like assault in Japan...believe you me, I know. ;-)

this is a no brainer...you hit him and stop and get arrested. you hit him, leave the scene and might get away OR get arrested. This is only a moral issue if the driver was drunk. I drive in this country and too many times have I had to break hard or swerve to avoid hitting a cyclist or pedestrian that ignores signals. All the while knowing I'll be arrested if I cause injury for something that is another's fault for being irresponsible. The law causes this type of behavior. If it was changed you might have people actually stop and want to help the injured but there's no positive outcome for the driver whether they stop or not.

i was a volunteer lifeguard in the late 90's at Kuneguma Kaigan in Kanagawa. I worked there for 3 summers and every summer at least 2 to 3 bodies would wash ashore and be discovered by the lifeguard staff. Some in all their clothes, some naked, some with missing body parts. Every time the cops would say, "nantoka, nantoka, yakuza, nantoka". I didn't hear Chinese or Korean so there didn't seem to be too much racial profiling. Go figure....

Citibank is the worst bank I've had to deal with. Beezlebub...you're right, the ask for the gaijin card. If you are American you have to surrender your social security number. This doesn't make any sense to me as it's a Japan based account. Customer service, non-existent. Also the English speaking staff they talk about...huh, mediocre at best. This young staff guy spoke to me in English like I was his "homie". Nickel, please. Learn some customer service before you come at me with that crap.
Horrible, horrible experiences with Citi...
