Not just the end but the entirety of Mulholland Drive. I've seen it twice and still haven't got the foggiest what it's about

The big hint is at the very beginning, right at the end of the opening credits.

How about cutting costs?

Why do I have to buy a special bag for my elementary aged child that costs 8 - 10 man?

Or uniforms for JHS and HS kids, for that matter.

Of course, my above comment does not attempt justify the shameful US internment of Japanese-Americans. It was the type of thing "the bad guys" do, not the self-proclaimed "land of the free". George Takei, Japanese-American actor known for playing Lt Sulu on Star Trek, hosted a documentary and created a stage play about that shameful part of American history.

The Japanese were victims, as were every other party in the war. It is the anti-Japan users who use whataboutism to deflect all blame onto the Japanese. Hypocrisy.

The Japanese people may have been victims. But, they were victims of their own government, not victims of the US or Russia or Korea, or any other country during WW2. (Although, an argument can certainly be made for the residents of Nagasaki, target of the unnecessary 2nd A-bombing.)

The imperialist military of Japan invaded Korea, Manchuria, China, etc. And, they attacked the US naval base at Pearl Harbor. They also allied with Nazi Germany.

The people of Japan have nobody to blame for what befell their country than their own government. That includes losing those islands claimed by Russia and Korea. They're gone. Get over it. It's a textbook example of FAFO.

If they want to encourage people to have children:

-Remove the sales tax on groceries, so it's easier to feed children.

-Enact paid family leave for maternity, paternity, and medical, so can take the time necessary to have and raise children.

-Actually enforce overtime limits and other worker protections, so parents can have a proper family life.

-Ensure availability of day care and pre-kindergarten schools, to allow parents who work to have families.

-Other stuff I can't think of right now.

Posted in: Woman, boyfriend arrested after her 5-year-old daughter dies from hypothermia See in context

Police said doctors told them that Nono had several bruises on her body, leading police to believe that she may have been subjected to physical abuse multiple times.

...last September, police received a call from a relative of Sekikawa saying that he and Miyamoto were constantly arguing over raising the two children.

Police notified the Hachinohe Child Welfare Center that the two children might be in danger of being abused. An employee of the welfare center visited the apartment on Oct 31 and spoke with Miyamoto, Sekikawa and saw Nono, but saw no signs that she was being abused.

So, those monsters suddenly started abusing her enough to cause multiple bruises after Oct 31? Uh huh. Or, the welfare employee simply didn't properly examine her at that time. They probably just looked around the apt, and asked a few questions.

At least the police contacted the appropriate agency, for a change.

What makes you think anyone has better or worse employees than another? They all hire basically the same types of young, underpaid, PT workers, who are prone to stupid behaviors. Just choose whichever brand you feel has the best-tasting product, and hope for the best.

My expert analysis:

If the 49ers would have scored more points than the Chiefs, they would have won. So, the coach should have had them score more points, while, at the same time, preventing the Chiefs from scoring as many points as they did.

That brilliant analysis is made even more amazing by the fact it was the only football game I've watched all year. Or many years.

*Me: "BK Japan is wayyyy better than BK US. It's also the best of the bottom-tier fast food joints in Japan, as well. (McD, Mos, Lotteria, KFC)"*

With added emphasis on bottom. Definitely #2.

No argument on bottom-tier for those I mentioned. In the US, there are some additional brands that are better than the others in that tier, such as In-n-Out. But, they're all still on the bottom shelf. (The next tier up being Shake Shack, Five Guys, Smash Burger, The Habit, etc, some of which are in Japan, too. Then, comes the food truck burgers. And, finally, restaurant "gourmet" burgers.)

But, BK Japan is definitely the best of that bottom tier, here. Who would you put at #1? Certainly none that I mentioned in my previous post. Did I miss any? Maybe DomDom? Unfortunately, I've never had one, as the location in my town is very inconvenient. I've always wanted to try it, though.

I guarantee they felt pressured to return to work, as soon as possible, either overtly or through more subtle inference.

Also, Tokio Marine said 100% took child-care leave? 100%? So, every male employee at that company has at least one child? That seems kinda weird, especially in a country with such a supposedly low birthrate.

Ridiculously expensive and Japan BK shouldn’t even say BK. Looks nothing like the American place and the quality is less. Copy cat that gutted a product trying to pass it off as American. Fast food is junk here.

A. BK Japan is wayyyy better than BK US. It's also the best of the bottom-tier fast food joints in Japan, as well. (McD, Mos, Lotteria, KFC)

Just stick with the Whopper w/Cheese or the Big Chicken Deluxe, and you'll see what I mean. Stay away from all those gimmicky limited-time items.

III. Fast food is basically junk everywhere. Do you think it's gourmet level in the US? That's where the term "junk food" comes from.

Actually you're wrong: Rabies and worms jabs are not mandatory in Japan, as Japan is classed as a zero risk country for rabies.

No, it is you who are wrong. Rabies vaccine is very much a requirement in Japan. The other vaccines, such as DHPP, are only recommended. Also, heartworm preventatives (they aren't vaccines) are typically given orally, on a monthly basis, and are HIGHLY recommended due to the high mosquito populations here.

But, to reiterate, rabies vaccines are required.

Posted in: High school girl killed, likely after being dragged 5 km by car See in context

SeriouslyCreamy

Just an update on this. Police are saying that the 72 year old driver's car had no damage to the front bumper, bonnet (hood) or windscreen, however underneath was obviously damaged. They are thinking that the high school girl had already fallen down on the road before being dragged by his car. Maybe she was struck by another car at first.

If she was already lying in the road, I hope they do a thorough enough investigation to find the point at which this car began to drag her. Then, they can hopefully find CCTV footage to figure out why she was in the road. And, if she was hit by another car first, use CCTV and mobile phone telemetry to identify the culprit.

But, to not notice a body lying on the road in front of you, and to then drag it for 5 - 9km (depending on report), is pretty damn negligent driving on this guy's part, and should be liable for some consequence.

Football fans want to concentrate on football, not this.

Except that, unlike most popular global sporting events, a huuuuge portion of Superbowl viewers watch only for the commercials and the halftime show, not for the sport at all. And, this year, those very same people will also be watching for Taylor Swift and whatever her boyfriend's name is.

"IOW, does it mean something estimated to cost 100 million will now cost 140 million, or is it 240 million?"

According to Google, a "fold" is 100%, so "four-fold" would mean 400%, so 100 million rising four fold would be 400 million.

Except the article says "1.4 fold", not "4 fold". So, it's still somewhat confusing.

I'll go ahead and assume it means 1.4X, or a 40% increase.
