Posted in: Anger in UK parliament as Corbyn accused of calling May 'stupid woman' See in context

.I think the UK has a lot more to worry about right now than some silly name calling.

Yeah, the idea of a no deal Brexit or a Corbyn goverment both come to mind.

Posted in: Third Canadian detained in China amid Huawei dispute See in context

Unfortunately when you're in a single party dictatorship of a country you can be taken hostage at a whim. It's a pity that China doesn't care to follow the rule of law or that they trample basic universal freedoms as well. The "peaceful rise" has become "whatever it takes to keep the party in power." Western companies are starting to take notice. China has had 30 years to figure things out. If they can't get it right they're going to end up being more and more isolated.

Yeah, really. Christmas is what you make it.

Posted in: Standoff over Trump border wall continues as partial gov't shutdown looms See in context

The only wall that ever worked was the Berlin wall and that was set up as a kill zone, not a simple wall. There is no way the proposed wall will work. Huge waste of money. And while I love to watch Schumer and Pelosi look uncomfortable I don't know if it was out of embarrassment or what.

Posted in: Hitachi to buy majority stake in ABB's power grid arm for $6.4 bil See in context

GE sold off most of it's power group to ABB earlier this year. They don't have much left at all. So Toshiba will be the biggest and what happens to the ABB sites in the US is anybody's guess.

Posted in: In this age of streaming services, do you think going to the cinemas will soon be a thing of the past? See in context

yeah, I'll never get a 4k tv that will fit on my wall that is as good as a theater. It's better than it was but there's still only one way for the best movies.

Bah, if he's still in jail the whole Nissan board ought to join him.

Posted in: Japan seeks 1st aircraft carrier to deploy stealth fighters See in context

Japan could probably do very well with unmanned fighters / drones. But in the meantime Japan has to become more independent of the USA foreign policy and needs to step up and become a world power. Japan's peaceful rise should alarm nobody.

Posted in: Japan's justice system under scrutiny over Ghosn's continued detention See in context

Trump? Nissan and Mitsubishi are Japanese companies, Renault is French. Ghosn isn't a US citizen. Japan has pretty much said they're going after Ghosn. Up to France to demand access for their lawyers. Hopefully Marcon will kick some Abe butt.

Posted in: N Korean official urges Japan to apologize over forced labor See in context

meh. NK has no ability to tell somebody else to apologize after all the misery they've caused their own citizens. The Kim clan has killed more Koreans than Japan ever did.

Posted in: Trump says he may consider sanctions over missing Saudi journalist See in context

I can't speak to the temperament of Mr. Khashoggi but he hardly looks like a brawler. So now the Saudi's throw a bunch of people under the bus to protect the crown prince, apparently. Guess we wait and see what Trump actually does.

Posted in: Trump threatens to send military, shut border as migrants head for Mexico See in context

And yet we've got engineers with masters degrees who can't stay in the country because they're following the rules. This is some sort of bizarre publicity stunt that's just going to have the politicians playing political football with people as the ball. Immigration is easy. No felony, yes job, you, your spouse, and kids are in. Anything more complicated is politics.
