"You busted me for lifting a pack of gum at 7-11—oh by the way, I offed a granny with a shoe string in my late teens when I was locked up in the loony bin seven years ago!"

Cops should focus more on convenience store stings. They may turn up more convictions. Unsolved ones from the past even...

If I had a nickel for every time my parents had to apologize for me... This one somehow trumps any of my previous offenses however.

Seems like cops are three steps behind the whole way... And somehow leaking it to the press for the fourth step.

They may think they are doing their due diligence and reporting their efforts, but actually they're just putting on display their failures.

Ridiculous, from a man that holds as his personal life motto the Zen term kankyakka, which translates "look at what is beneath your own feet." What a joke.

What are you talking about? He's got to do his best to raise his one son to be the next generation kabuki kid down the line. This means teach him how to apply his make-up, cross-dress and all that jazz.

Meaningless award.

Posted in: Softbank unveils world's first smartphone with radiation detector See in context

Is it just me, or does this just make it appear to the rest of the world that people across Japan all live in fear of radiation, and that it's a constant danger that they must endure throughout their daily lives?

Sure radiation is a problem here, and it needs to be monitored, but is this a bit too much? While they're at it, they should also include a small compartment for iodine pills....

Posted in: Japan Tobacco to buy Belgium's Gryson See in context

No one cares about Japan Tobacco, as they slowly disappear domestically and seek to expand toward developing nations as a means to survive. Sure they have a small pharmaceutical arm, which after a decade continues to fail at producing anything, and an tiny foods division also with an unsuccessful history (contaminated dumplings anyone?). Just change the name already and move overseas.

What! I thought this story was about sandwiches. And where I can eat 'em. I see the word "sandwich" and I just go! It's conditioning from being here too long and the lack there of in the country (like Mexican food). Where can I get a real sandwich in Tokyo?

How does Japan support all of these new shopping complexes going up all of the time? With the economy and a shrinking young population, the government had better work on attracting more tourists from overseas -- and making the country more "gaijin"-friendly... Not just for the sake of these businesses either, but for Japan's future...

I hate being asked by Japanese people, "What do gaijin think/do/think/feel//etc.?" I tell them the term gaijin (foreigner) accounts for everyone else in the whole world EXCEPT you Japanese on this small island. So it wouldn't be fair to represent all of them with a generalization. Same goes with Americans, Canadians, Australians, Germans, French, Japanese and the like...
