Posted in: Do you believe some Japanese abductees are still alive in North Korea, and if you do, why do you think North Korea hasn't come clean on the issue? See in context

The way DPRK used the abductees (spying activities) make me think that they probably know to much about DPRK to be released. Same with the Japanese Red Army terrorists who hijacked this plane to PyongYang (8 members If I am not mistaked), they could never come back to Japan because they just became spies (one of them was caught in Tokyo in the 80s, but he was planning to launch a terrorist attack during the Seoul Olympics though). On the other hand,I remember this government mole in Aum Shinrikyo who fled to NK (don t remember her name) to seek political asylum. She stayed in DPRK for a while and could come back anytime she wanted, probably because she didn t acces any sensitive information (and also because she prolly was a nutcase).

I feel that heavy driniking is associated with virility and strength in Japan. Strange: I love drinking, but ever since I enjoyed drinking loads of various alcoholic beverages, my strength and stamina (and IQ) are decreasing dramatically. Drinking is a dangerous game: do it consciously, but don't expect to become a "man" this way.

Posted in: Some teed off by Japanese media swarming over Ishikawa See in context

For the first time in my life I have seen softball, during the Olympics, thanks to the hysteric japanese media focusing on the only athletes that could make a somehow not so bad performance. Softball!!!!!! WTF, who cares? I cared about Phelps, Bolt, and other of this kind...instead, the same soup about Nakajima, depressed judoka and Ueno all over. Japanese fans are fans as long as their athletes are doing good. They sometimes care for foreign athletes, in football (soccer), and their "fanhood" is changing with the wind (J-Media),japanese Madrid fans peaked in 2003, then Barca, then Manchester (during the last Club World Cup, the japanese crowd just came to see C. Ronaldo doing the twist and twirl around the ball like an asthmatic breakdancer.). But they also focused on Matsui playing for le Mans (this team has an actually High School level) and many other worthless footballers in Europe, just because they were japanese. This Ishikawa guy is another tarentless tarento; he's japanese, polite, shy,he still has acnea but his mother is already thinking about marriage: same old same old in Yamato. I also suspect that the poor performance of japanese athletes in the international arena is definitely due to the fans beeing easily satisfied with peanuts and beeing ethnocentric: Hide Nakata retired when he was 29? Bashing anyone? Nope, he's now advertising some crap. In one or two decades, Japan will probably create some sports in which only Japanese could compete: inago charming, extreme soba eating and of course the Zenkoku Baatendaa Long Island Ice Tea Sheikingu!!! That would make everyone happy.

Posted in: Nakagawa seen 'misbehaving' at Vatican; Russian official says he acted like 'brain was turned off' See in context

I am sadly amazed that nobody pointed out that he was an alcoholic. According to the media, he is just "somebody who likes alcohol". Alcoholism is a disease and even though many Japanese people consume way too much alcohol, alcoholism is not recognized as a disease in this country.

A lot of my japanese friends drink at home, everyday, alone. This is alcoholism, plain and simple. Nakagawa's behaviour should have, at least, raised some awareness about this issue, but it seems that it won't happen.

Posted in: Amid the global recession, do you see the end of rampant consumerism and is that ultimately a good thing? See in context

In the case of Japan, nope, it won't change much. Japan has a very complex consumerist attitude: people identify themsleves so much with brands that if you won't keep buying and showing off some specific articles, you won't be able to belong to your group anymore. Some goods are so fetishized that people don't even think about its market price; some young people sold their own body to buy some specific goods, and I am quite sure that a lot of them are ready to go down to one meal a day to afford some crap.

For me, the good side of this recession would be strong yen, that allow me to travel at very good prices.

LOL,

No no, in Europe we have some drunk blokes too:

Here is Dardenne (Belgian politician, mayor of Bruges city):

And the best one might be Sarkozy in a G8 summit, after having some good time with Vladimir Putin:

Nakagawa-sama drank because of the economic gloomy forecasts. Rome has excellent restaurants. Looking at the way he spoke and his relaxed way to handle questions, I bet it's Chianti (or a "Riserva" Montepulciano d'Abruzzo) :D

Posted in: Japan, Australia draw 0-0 in World Cup qualifier See in context

but just getting a spot among the 32 teams is something to be proud of.

Yes and no. Considering that many notorious unqualified european teams can thrash any asian team anyday, and also before Australia joined the asian qualifications, they used to be thrashed by the fifth South American team, beeing qualified in the Asian pool is (to World standard), not that big, I think. Unfair for all the badass european, african and South American teams if you ask me, but shouganai, even though Asia doesn't weight that much in football (yet), they need to be represented, but still a pain in the ass for many great teams and fans who cannot see their team at the WC and look at some spastic asian team crawling in the 18-yard.

Tonight's game was "same old same old". Japan needs a cocky striker, and the Aussies looked for the draw. Aussies 1- Japan-0

@ northlondon: space monkey is showing some footbalistic pride, and there is nothing wrong about that (and considering how nationalistic Japan gets when it's about sports...).

If Japan "gets dirty", they'll lose, plain and simple. The only thing that will be dirty is when the samurai blue will get spastic in the 18-yard.

I hope the Aussies win, to have (at least) some fun watching fujiTV on the 12th. Gambare Aussies!!!

Posted in: Japan faces big challenge against Australia in World Cup qualifier See in context

All I know is, watching the Olympics and last World Cup I really, really wanted to see the Japan Women's Soccer Team face off against the men and kick their a$$es

My thought exactly. I went to Kokuritsu to watch the olympic squad just before the Olympics (VS Argentina, the game was stopped 10 before the end due to heavy rain): they were ok(even though they lost). But then they turned spastic during the Olympics, and I would deinitely think that the JFA should organize a match J-Bums VS Nadeshiko Japan.

I wouldn't hold my breathe for the next game,: looking at the match reports, Australia lost some skills, probably due to the fact that Hiddink and his "homeopathic" treatments is not here anymore; Japan, well, is Japan, and its irregular performances are not making the game more interesting, but completely UFOesque most of the time.

Japan and Australia are qualified anyway. I am just hoping for an Aussie victory, then the local media would stop with their post-modern-nationalistic bangumi showing nakamura like Morpheus in matrix.

Posted in: J-pop industry taking the music out of music business See in context

Japan has loads of different bands and genres. J-Pop is as bad as this new RnB soup westerners are given through TV and FM. You can be in any kind of music, you can find what you like in Japan. Just switch off your TV: I am into metal, and there are loads of excellent and talented bands in Town, not to mention many eclectic live houses.

I don't really get the comparison between rock icons and J-Pop cheap stuff. The correct comparison would J-Pop VS Beyonce, Rihanna, and all those worthless stuff (that is also produced by huge industries as well).

The murder was committed by four juveniles, so their names and pictures were never released to the general public and have since then be a point of gossip.

Watch out Good Jorb, a mighty J-blueman cop already read your comment and is ready to strike your home.

Internet is what it is. If you have the guts to show your face, be ready to be bashed, humiliated, ridiculized or whatever. Japan's internet is probably the harshest. If you don't have the shell for that, then don't hold a blog. Period.

Internet is the last place where we can have freedom of speech.

Even though I am not happy about stuff like stormfront, 2chan coward flamers, various criminal blogs etc... that is the price to pay to keep the internet free.

If you start a blog, then you'll have to expect the consequences and deal with any kinds of comments: could be keeping them, replying or deleting them; but suing people is a b#### move.

Posted in: Japan’s unpopular men and women boycott love See in context

Interesting. I quite feel for those people. Japanese "love standards" are as weird as those himote people standars.

The popular J-men men have to be a grey, unfunny, depressed accountant who must provide and supply money to braindead Louis Vuitton maniacs. Those himote at least decide to be happy and create another way of life.

It made me think about this french writer called Michel Houellebecq. Look it up. In his novels he transposes the marxist class struggle to the sexual and love field. He gave up this "love struggle" and is proud to brag about his ugly face, small d####, depressed mood and his impressive record of epic fails. Great read.

I wish those himote all the best. Those kind of groups might also raise awareness about social and love ties in Japan, which is about total hypocrisy.

Someone should create a manga based on Max Weber's "The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism", that shouls enlighten Mr. Aso at his own pathetic level.

I remember asking twice why japanese companies usually displayed open-plan offices; I was answered (in both cases), that workers would sleep if they would work in a cubicle. That's all we need to know about japanese work ethic.
