It's much slower overall downtrend than for Delta, ~50k avg per day 1 month ago almost plateu here ~40k so will be interesting if reversing trend in next week or two. More positively though is the death rate is faster decline, ~60 per day avg for whole country, down from ~200 per day 1 month ago.

This story sums up japan culture so well. All about meaningless rules made up by people without any meaning to their life. Just 'work' for the sake of working - hence neverending redtape and waste.

Sorry, but this is taking the p.... I read reports that the 3rd shot would be good for several months even a year but then this malarky? We just have the 3rd and the 4th needed few months later? Got worsening side effects after each dose and am not getting any more.

Incredible engineering / tech. After previous derailments happened during recent very strong earthquakes, enhancments were made to the rails themselves and to the train wheels (this section was updated) but even with these new measures this one train did derail but most importantly it has already stopped thanks to the tried and proven automatic detection systems in place. The shaking was unbelievable, there is a youtube video from a passanger inside the train and it is basacilly as if a truck has hit them. No-one in the train car shouted or panicked even though it was dark and they were being pummelled by the power of the earthquake. Amazing.

Dinosaurs being... dinosaurs. Unable to operate a remote control, nevermind anything as complex as video conferencing 'system' With the majority of them being asleep most of the time anyway, they are an embarrasment to Japan.

'Alleged' but named and their pictures are already published? 3 JP employees of an old JP securites company were found guilty of insider trading few years ago but they were let off because 'they didn't know it was actually insider trading' all swept under the carpet quickly.

At literally the same time, the last remaining airlines that were serving europe to Japan have cancelled their flights (ANA and JAL - they will fly cargo only now) Now only Finnair remains with 3 flights per week - how cruel can you be to dangle some hope in the media yet know this information that means they cannot acutally get here anyway?

Sicking but par the course. Why any forgiener would risk working at the top level of a j corp is beyond me. Every other year there is one who is mis-treated to this extent and them and their families lives are ruined while the locals pat themselves on the back for doing 'justice'

It's more than obvious given the policy of keeping foreign tourists out for what will be at least 3 years, that Japan sees it as completely acceptable. Only if other countries block Japanese from entering will this xenophobic dinasours do anything to reverse the current policy, as it is NOT based on any scientifc facts anymore.

For the entire duration of Omicron, no testing required for domestic travel, no restrictions worth a damn yet somehow travelling from abroad is used to show the only tangible 'tough stance' against it. Pathetic.

Was perplexed to see footage of a tsunami rushing in on the Tonga coastline at around 5pm that day but even 2 hours later the JMA site had no tsunami warning. They are being pedantic to call it 'tidal change' It WAS a tsunami event. But nope, if the goddam manual says the data doesn't match previous events, nothing is done.

Posted in: Japan extends entry ban on non-resident foreigners until end of February: Kishida See in context

So many kick-in-the-face things going on here. While 'outsiders' are banned from entry, among whom are students who have paid all fees for education or family members who fall through the wide visa-cracks. Those 'lucky' enough to be able to come back are forced into a 6-tatami room arrest even though they are vaccinated and did all tests before departure and on arrival. All the while, US army completley stuck their fingers up at Japan and all of us, they did not test, did not follow any rules or due care at all and brought Omicron into Okinawa (and likely from there the rest of country) but then also inside Japan everyone can come and go as they please, zero retrictions basically for 2 years. So the scapegoat in all of this is the 'outsider'

The democracy where rights of residents are denied to enter the country where they live and pay taxes in? That democracy? Key values where interred individuals are stripped of all human rights, abused and even die while in the custody (care?) of the government. Those key values?

As I said , did anyone check I wonder , the governments of the world sure didn't ... It's not any more catchy than the previous versions, go check hopkins and view the African countries listed. All of then are trending down since begining of Nov. Death rates are also down. It's quite amazing the over-reation to this varient has been. The existing varients, esp. Delta, have been running rampet all over Europe and USA since September.

They also 'boasted' about 97,000 testing capacity in tokyo but at the peak (olympics) used 25,000 of it and these days about 1,000. Then we see that covid is basically non-existant across Japan .. what's the secret sauce? Korea has record cases so if you say it's in the genes or BPR vaccine, it wasn't only Japan that has those unique traits. Sure is a mystery....

Posted in: Japan reverses halt of inbound flight bookings after criticism See in context

Confusion remains for long-term residents of Japan as the language only mentions 'Japanese nationals'. They do not appear to matter for the last 2 years yet pay the same taxes and fudosan bribes as everyone else.

Posted in: Japan suspends new reservations on all incoming flights See in context

This actually might be good in a way - as they are also banning Japanese people from getting in, there should be a huge outcry and this over the top 'measure' might cause them to back pedalon a nother dumb decision (and not for the 100th time either) But if no outcry, or it is muted, then things could only get worse with how they are isolating the entire country, following CH basically.
