It's much slower overall downtrend than for Delta, ~50k avg per day 1 month ago almost plateu here ~40k so will be interesting if reversing trend in next week or two. More positively though is the death rate is faster decline, ~60 per day avg for whole country, down from ~200 per day 1 month ago.

Incredible engineering / tech. After previous derailments happened during recent very strong earthquakes, enhancments were made to the rails themselves and to the train wheels (this section was updated) but even with these new measures this one train did derail but most importantly it has already stopped thanks to the tried and proven automatic detection systems in place. The shaking was unbelievable, there is a youtube video from a passanger inside the train and it is basacilly as if a truck has hit them. No-one in the train car shouted or panicked even though it was dark and they were being pummelled by the power of the earthquake. Amazing.

So many kick-in-the-face things going on here. While 'outsiders' are banned from entry, among whom are students who have paid all fees for education or family members who fall through the wide visa-cracks. Those 'lucky' enough to be able to come back are forced into a 6-tatami room arrest even though they are vaccinated and did all tests before departure and on arrival. All the while, US army completley stuck their fingers up at Japan and all of us, they did not test, did not follow any rules or due care at all and brought Omicron into Okinawa (and likely from there the rest of country) but then also inside Japan everyone can come and go as they please, zero retrictions basically for 2 years. So the scapegoat in all of this is the 'outsider'

Then we see that covid is basically non-existant across Japan .. what's the secret sauce? Confusion remains for long-term residents of Japan as the language only mentions 'Japanese nationals'. They do not appear to matter for the last 2 years yet pay the same taxes and fudosan bribes as everyone else.

This actually might be good in a way - as they are also banning Japanese people from getting in, there should be a huge outcry and this over the top 'measure' might cause them to back pedalon a nother dumb decision (and not for the 100th time either) But if no outcry, or it is muted, then things could only get worse with how they are isolating the entire country, following CH basically.
