Nuclear waste should be divided up and sent home with the major decision-makers in utilities which inflicted this on us.

We are now seeing the tip of the iceberg which is world-wide contamination from our Faustian bargain with things nuclear. Following generations, if any, will curse us and ask why we could be so short-sighted and stupid.

Posted in: U.N. warns Earth 'firmly on track toward an unlivable world' See in context

Our injection of additional CO2 into the atmosphere and marine environments has destabilized the Stable State of the Climate, which is the resultant of interactions between complex systems. Conditions will start to change, to oscillate between extremes greater and greater until it finds a new Stable State, usually at one of the extremes, where it gets stuck. It may not be conducive to Human habitat.

Posted in: How fast can we stop Earth from warming? See in context

The permafrost is already thawing, and there is no way to stop it now. It will be the end of us, with methane tens of times more harmful as a greenhouse gas as carbon dioxide.

There are huge methane blowouts in Siberia, and even methane seeps now in Antarctica! But go on making fun of scientists, and keep listening to politicians instead of taking action NOW.

Add humidity to that and you have killer conditions. We will have several places this summer with wet-bulb temperatures too high for humans.

Posted in: Do you agree with the decision by many global companies to sever their business ties with Russia because of its invasion of Ukraine? See in context

The change will have to come from within Russia itself. I at first suspected the oligarchs would put pressure, but they have little. Then, I heard his daughters were worried about being Putins, scorned everywhere. But it will have to come from the Siloviki, the former KGB and other nasty folk now in government and in the ear of Putin. They are the ones who did the poisonings for Putin, and can see what Putin is doing to their nation now.

The poor Russian people have never known good government, and now their crazed Putin is taking them down with himself. How many more will die before he is stopped?

Posted in: Heat wave a glimpse of climate change's impact in North America See in context

It will get worse. The permafrost is thawing, releasing massive amounts of Methane a greenhouse gas about 80 times the potency of CO2. We cannot stop it now, having Methane seeps in Antarctica already.

Thank your local Denier.

Posted in: Do you think Russia is going to invade Ukraine? See in context

I think the cost would be too high, and Putin needs an "offramp" of some kind, but this may be a diversion from what he is really doing in other worlds of evil.

There seems to be insufficient infrastructure for China to take over as the primary market for Russia right now, but I expect it.
