Democrat candidates seem to criticize each other alot. Won't Republicans use this criticism against the Democrat candidates during the election?

Posted in: Japan defends cautious approach on coronavirus testing as 7th death reported See in context

So yesterday I spent an hour going to a variety of drug stores and convenience stores looking for masks here in Shinjuku. Not a single one. If we can't even provide masks, then the situation looks pretty hopeless to me.

Maybe this won't matter now. With the new coronavirus, tourism will fall dramatically, and the new routes won't be necessary because airlines will cancel routes.

The planes fly over West Shinjuku, with all those skyscrapers. That is an invitation to another 9/11.

The mortality rate for the new corona virus is 2%, so 50 is 2% of what? Then you now the total. That's 2,500 cases so far.

What have these stars been doing for the past 15 years. This show was broadcast in bilingual from the mid-90s when I was a kid, and part of my English comes from that show.

About the cases in the countriside who had no China connection. Did they eat something made in China or buy something made in China at a 100 yen shop (where almost everything is made in China). Can the coronavirus live long enough to infect people in this scenario?

Posted in: Coronavirus outbreak stokes anti-Asian bigotry worldwide See in context

Coronovirus seems to be outwardly a typical flu, with a death rate of 2%, mostly elderly and people with pre-existing diseases. It originated in China, so it is being blown up onto something really scarry to isolate China politically and economically. It is part of the "make in America!" movement of Trump. Scare people away from China. Evidently, they are afraid they can't compete. Promoting this bigotry is for the cause.

Was "interfere" the word Trump used? I'm sure he does not see it as interference. He is improving everything. In his mind.

Posted in: Coronavirus infection cases spread further in Japan See in context

The mortality rate is 1% (mostly elderly and people with pre-existing conditions. Seems to spread like any other flu. What's the big deal with this coronavirus?

Posted in: Popular singer Makihara arrested over alleged drug possession See in context

NHK news said that when arrested, Makihara was with an "acquaintance" (知り合い) in his condo. Makihara is gay, like Gokai, so why don't they say "lover" or at least "partner"? We all know who the guy is. And I really hope Makihara gets his act together and writes more great songs.

Posted in: Japan ranks as 3rd-biggest country for U.S. trade deficit in 2019 See in context

When Trump is finished, there will be no trade deficit because everything will be made in the USA by Americans and there will be no trading with other countries. Well, one of the US guys at the office said this, but I think he was telling a joke. But it may be what we call a "serious" joke (真面目な冗談).

Yes, me too! I like the old building much better. It has character and the nostalgia factor. This is just an assembly of metal rods, plates, and glass.
