I guess you missed him yesterday schooling Matt Lauer on nat'l TV as to why the so-called Bush tax cuts actually benefit the economy.
I guess you missed former Chairman Allen Greenspan say that tax cuts do not pay for themselves. Economists have had ample time to measure the effects of tax cuts on the U.S. economy - Bush puts the "bunk" back in Kennebunkport.

So then if the companies can't get together and decide on a fair price is it the EU that is in total control of what the prices should be?
It is not a case of being either one of the possibilities you propose or none at all. There are other possibilities. One possibility would be to let the prices be determined by fair market competition rather than by price fixing.

So much for the whole "worstest president ever!, in the whole history of America" meme.
And what pray tell does one have to do with the other. He could be both the best author that ever lived and the worst president ever. What evidence do you have that the two things are mutually exclusive?

Bush was also snorting mountains of cocaine. But he would never state that something should be done concerning the disparity in the law concerning recreational drugs. (I don't do drugs either)

Currently Bush holds the title for WPE. Two events will keep him there for a very long time. The war in Iraq and its justification will always be judged harshly as history continues to divulge the true cost of the war. The Great Recession will eventually be placed squarely on Bush's shoulders when history is finally sorted out. All of Obama's efforts will be vindicated concerning the Great Recession.
Bush's bailout of financial institutions will also be seen differently through the eyes of historians. It will be seen as a redeeming factor; a factor when combined with Obama's effort to save the financial and banking industries turned a looming depression into the Great Recession. Just like history records, the events leading up to the 1929 crash, were the cause of a decade of depression, so will the prior administration's (i.e. Bush) be historically what continued the Great Recession so deep into the Obama administration. These idiots that claim we want to "blame it on Bush" and claim it is unwarranted would have been blaming Roosevelt for the Great Depression. History will render out the truth. The truth is that Bush's mistakes and inaction really did last this long and maybe longer. Economist already agree that the stimulus did work and should have been larger or followed by another stimulus bill.
Squandered resources will be Bush's legacy. Squandered budget surplus. Squandered goodwill of the world after 9/11. Squandered military resources.
I do not feel any ill feeling and have absolutely no ill will towards him. I actually feel sorry for him. Here was this, not so bright individual, who was thrust into the presidency by the forces around him. He did the best he could. Unfortunately it was crap. The social conservatives will still sing his praises - as demonstrated on this JT thread.
The best post presidential legacy he can attain would be to be quiet.

If you are going to rob the productive of their money
Yeah like a 20% tax is robbing the super rich. Most people pay a much higher rate. Factor in social security and it is no contest on who is paying the highest tax rate.
TimRussert, MisterCreosote or RomeoRamenII or for that matter what ever else he/she decide to call their self thinks the 100 millionaires and billionaires should only be paying 15% in taxes.

I have heard that the Republicans will be trying to repeal over and over again. That is playing politics instead of governing. I do think that getting insurance across state lines would also be helpful. But nooooooooooo they will want total repeal or nothing.

Posted in: Obama says 'midcourse corrections' to come at home See in context
I can see extending the tax cuts to most of the tax brackets. Why should we extend them to the super rich? Someone please answer that? It is certainly not for economic reasons. They will spend at the same lever regardless of their tax rate. I am for splitting the capital gains tax into a more progressive structure. Instead of 20% (2011) for almost everyone I would like to see 15% for the middle class incomes and 25% for the wealthiest, who are now paying some of the lowest tax rates. Currently the wealthy are paying 15% (on long term gains) and that number will increase to 20%, like I said in 2011. Most people who are not rich rely on money that is income taxed by the IRS at a higher rate than the capital gains taxes that the rich primarily pay. There should be an upward break, in capital gain taxes, somewhere past $250k. It may only be just a couple of percent and then another few percent at 1/2 a mil and another few percent at 1 mil.
But the Republicans want to have the rich and super rich pay only 15% taxes on the vast majority of their new money coming in every year. I must admit that I am not big on a 39.6% tax rate for the top income tax rate, even for the CEO making 3 - 10 mil a year. That is the rate come 2011 for those $373,651 and above. I also think that threshold should be a lot higher.
Well this is one thing they will be arguing when they want to restore some or all of the tax cuts. Again the Republicans will be arguing to make the vast majority of the super rich's taxes a mere 15%. Otherwise they will rise to 20%. 20% for a billionaire is too high for the Republicans they want it to be 15%.

If the Republicans would want to take a look at paper work reduction for the health care bill I would commend them. However, they want to repeal the whole ball of wax or nothing at all. That's not governing that is playing politics. Of course the conservatives have been getting away with playing politics for a long time now. So why should they quit? Certainly not for the good of the country.

If there is a budget surplus, you taxed the people too much, so..........give it back. If you want to pay dowm [down] the debt, make it a line item in the budget.
This comment would be hilarious if it were not so sad. We had debt and we should have paid down the debt. Essentially techall's logic would be to say screw the national debt we refuse to pay it down. Because the ONLY way to pay it down is with budget surpluses.
What a sad and pathetic way to manipulate logic and truth.
The truth of the matter is that techall said even though we could pay down the debt because we have a budget surplus we should pass that debt along to other generations.
The Democrats were defeated by a terrible employment rate and various other scare tactics; right out of the Karl Rove playbook were they used terrorism to win elections. The problem is that many of the same scare tactics will not be available for the Republicans to use in 2012. The Tea Bag Party used fear. Taxation fears, socialism-big government fears and other fears. They and various Republicans try to dumb down the economic situation so they can claim to know the answers. The problem is complex. The solution is complex. Anyone rational would never call Obama anti-business. Just because people won't admit certain speech is hate speech doesn't make it so. The slurs against Obama on this thread are nothing short of hate speech. There are so many references as to Obama being unpatriotic it is pathetic. I do not post on JT very much anymore and one of the main reasons is the inability to quote references-sources. I can say that the huge majority of economists agree that the stimulus bill was successful in adverting a much worse recession, which is true, to the extent of almost being a consensus among them. However all a dishonest person has to do is say it is not true. Unless I can post credible sources it is to no avail. I have just posted two examples of easily defeated quotations from posters. One is utterly not true "He only needed to outspend her 10 to 1," and the other is totally ridiculous logic. The statements I have made will be allegedly refuted and the responses will become so convoluted that many will no longer be able to use clear common sense to see the truth.
Congratulations to the Tea Party and Republicans for their victories.
NOW GOVERN!

I was with you until the language comment. There is no official language in the US. Because white people of European descent have run the country for over 200 years, people assume the "official language" of the US is English, but there is no official language.
`
Please know your history before making such comments.

Sorry, but English is the Official language of the United States. By congressional decree. Its also been passed on a local level in most states, so as you went on to say, please know your history before making such comments.
ilcub76 was correct. Although many, many attempts have been made to make English the "official language" all congressional attempts have failed.
Many bills and amendments have passed the House or the Senate but none have passed both and been signed by a president.
I am perfectly willing to post the address of many sites that confirm that the many efforts to pass that specific legislation has failed. However it sucks that we cannot post links.
