Arrested 10 times...makes me wonder the type business that would hire a person like this.

These acts have had unexpected social repercussions both domestic and abroad,

I would think that the social repercussions would be expected.

The cops will wait for the driver to fully recover from minor injuries before questioning him. I'd like to think the best time would be now while it's fresh in his mind.

WilliB: Sorry bro, I know I'm being anal, but how is this crying wolf?

Anyway, just curious if any of you (who think the bar is bringing more publicity) know the bar name and/or location?

sometimes the way girls break up with guys in this country is quite cold too.

Dude, 4 months since they broke up, the time for him to move on was way overdue.

Why do we hear so often that Japanese tourists go abroad, have serious problems or accidents and die more so than non Japanese?

Could be because this you're checking out Japanese news sites.

And criminals/stalkers wouldn't think to use a stun gun/taser/pepper spray against their victim or while commiting their crime...

Enough with the China threat already. Even if Futenma was relocated off island, Kadena and the Air Force would still be here as well as the remaining Marines, the Navy and the Army, not to mention support from the DOD in mainland Japan. Do you really think the US would sit on a real threat because they didn't get their way with Futenma? Jeez, give it a rest.

stereotyping western foreigners like this offensive ...Maybe it's the other way around, ANA is stereotyping all Japanese as having dark hair and small noses.

Any idea why the suspect asked for and was allowed to use the 4th floor restroom as opposed to the one on the 6th where he was located?

Japan has the equivalent of drunk driving and driving under the influence as a lesser charge (for trace amounts of alcohol)...unless the system has changed recently.

Posted in: Rakuten gives Tanaka OK to join MLB See in context

The MLB does nearly the same thing. They'll sign a guy and keep him in the minors until he's 22-25 yrs old, he'll hit free agency in 6 yrs, when he's in his late 20's or early 30's. Both NPB and MLB use the system to their advantage and why not? If Tanaka didn't like the system, he could've signed a minor league deal with a MLB team back when he was 18.

There's no fault with Rakuten trying to keep him. To think any professional baseball team (including MLB) would allow a pitcher with a 24-0 / 1.27 record to leave without max compensation is silly.

Probie: You're validating the point I'm trying to make. There were specific requests/actions taken, so this was not a thought process at all. I was reponding to a comparison of thinking and attempting/consiring to do something.

Magnus: That's an interesting point (seriously).

jumpultimatestars: I thought you had a valid point, but then...authorities can't prosecute for attempting or conspiring to commit murder unless certain and specific actions are taken (i.e. purchasing a weapon specifically for a murder, soliciting someone to commit a murder, putting a plan in motion to commit a murder.) Attempting and conspiring are physical actions, not a thought process.

That said, I would not be annoyed if my parents left me an inheritance. But my parents are doing their best to enjoy the money they have saved up, and i am really glad. Would not be upset if they end up spending it all and dont leave me a cent. They've earned it!

One of the better posts I've ever read on JT. Sounds like your parents were smart with their finances, and with raising their child(ren). Great post!!!

Posted in: Woman whose body found after home fire consulted police on husband's abuse See in context

The laws in Japan for divorce, property settlement, joint custody sand child support really need to be updated. It would help prevent this kind of incident happening so regularly.

I hear what you're saying, but I don't see how this would've helped in this situation. Property settlement and child support judgements would likely have been against the husband, as well as a streamlined divorce process (if he didn't want to get divorced.) It appears he was intent on killing the wife...even though she wasn't going to leave him...based on what the article reads and her actions.

Posted in: Kanebo whitening creams spark 15,000 complaints See in context

Steroids and implants aren't an equal comparison, there are obvious and known side effects. Skin blotches from using this cream wasn't part of the package. If you were to use hair gel that made your hair fall out or a supplement that gave you intestinal problems you wouldn't complain?

Your examples of personal accountability are weak and has nothing to do with consumers buying a (legal) product that disfigured them.

This is the first time the old boy got caught, not the first he did it. No sympathies here...cops being called was the right move, no matter how petty it may seem. Dude that called the police didn't know who it was or how the 'culprit' would react.

People in positions of authority (Prime Minister, Mayors, Governors, etc), in most cases, are provided the necessary information to make decisions for the people they represent...is my guess as to why he's under fire for making the decision (or non-decision) he made.

I may be wrong, but I always thought that evacuation orders were issued prior to the actual event, not during.

Posted in: Ex-soccer star Maezono released after night in jail for assaulting taxi driver See in context

It's called restitution peeps. It frees up the police and courts time from dealing with minor cases. Being that the taxi driver wasn't hurt (or so it seems) he wasn't wrong to take restitution...at least he came out of this with something other than the 'satisfaction' of what likely would've been just a small fine for Maezono.
