Isn’t the norm for school lunches to overcook everything and add no flavor whatsoever as to not offend the parents of the children. Then they go and do this? Numb skulls.

I'm assuming the 17 year old couldn't keep his mouth shut? Millennials...........

If you're getting it, just shut it and enjoy it.

Millennial? 1994 was quite some time ago. There is no way a 17 year old today is a Millennial.

You might want to avoid othering language of other generations. It’s propaganda made to divide people.

Also, statutory rape is still rape. It’s exploitation of a minor.

If organizers cannot remove Mori, then clearly the Japanese do not understand the concept of diversity and harmony and undeserving of the games in the first place.

Wow this comments section. Taking responsibility for your actions and your words is not ‘cancel culture’. It’s called ‘accountability’.

vaccine will be introduced in the next 2 weeks and the death rate here is very low. Looks like Japan got it right.

General population has yet to receive even a vague window for when inoculation will begin.

Wow, so just changing your contact tracing means you get less cases?

Less testing, less positive cases. It’s like magic! /s

Posted in: Japan's COVID crisis reawakens deflation fears as cash hoarding returns See in context

Yeah that’s called being smart. Hoarding implies that doing so is unnecessary. Japanese minimum wage isn’t high enough, job market is terrible, the government refuses to do another relief fund even though people need it.

A universal basic income would help negate this but Japan and Japanese are slow to change and risk adverse this the “hoarding”.

Suga, meanwhile, admitted Japan's medical system has been ill-prepared to deal with the surge in COVID-19 patients, acknowledging that more lives may have been saved had proper treatment been available.

There it is. At last the LDP admits it goofed off for too long with the “Go To” campaign and ended up hurting people. The LDP needs to go.

Its better late than never but tell that to the dead.

Posted in: Opposition raps gov't virus response as Diet debate starts See in context

Edano is right. We can’t start penalizing people for not hospitalizing when there are already not enough beds to accept COVID patients in the first place.

On top of that, he’s right that our attention should be put on containing the virus and protecting what is left.

Trying to juggle social and economic activities just as Suga is now is it working. As they say, “He who chases two hares catches neither.”

The taxi driver accepted a 8 - 9 hour ride, doesn’t confirm whether or not the passenger has the funds or means of paying, ignoring the fact that there are faster and cheaper ways of getting to Tottori instead of a taxi?

Posted in: As Diet opens, Suga pledges to get pandemic under control, hold Olympics See in context

Talk is cheap Suga, opposition party leaders are right. The LDP is now pushing into human rights violations and gross abuse of power.

At this point the best option is to focus efforts on getting vaccines out. That’s the only hope for Japan and their precious Olympic Games, but even that is a stretch.

Posted in: Head of medical body says nationwide state of emergency an option See in context

SOE in Japan in general doesn't mean squat?

Exactly. Having a SOE in Japan is fine, but with one that so poorly made and defined, how can anything get done? Osaka was calling it 'Red Stage' for over a month. Now it is a SOE. It made little difference.

Slapping a label on this whole thing does what exactly? Even the government and Suga said that this whole thing largely relies on citizens on an individual level to cooperate. That's been the case for nearly a year now and it brought us here, to this point.

The government can call it whatever they like but it won't make a bit of difference socially, medically or economically if it acts as nothing more than a placebo.

I’m not necessarily against having an SOE for Osaka. We are already in “Red Stage” so what does that really change for us? It seems like a placebo.

Are people not able to conduct themselves in a safe and sane manner unless it’s officially labeled as a SOE?

This is out of control. Stop testing already!

You do understand that not testing for a COVID-19 case doesn’t actually mean it goes away right?

It just means you are more ignorant to just how widespread and sick people are.
