Japan enjoys her freedom that not found in China, N.Korea, and even Russia. Please be real folks, it is a jungle out there.

since when was 'freedom' a requirement to become a nuclear weapon state? and we all know how crazy japan gets when they become militarised. no one in asia wants history to repeat itself.

In my humble opinion, Ishihara is a great political strategist addressing this message to China and NK. We just have to make sure they do not see Japan as a Paper Tiger.

LOL! as if china will be afraid of a little kitten like japan who still relies on uncle sam for protection

China reminds me of the "Third Reich." Hitler's belief was that anything that had ever been part of Charlemagne's kingdom (the First Reich, or the Holy Roman Empire) was legitimately part of Germany.

wait....wasnt it due to this belief that forced japan to continue to claim kurils and dokdo? how ironic...

The best way to maintain peace, is for China to see that Japan is not someone to mess with.

ha! ofcourse, if china gets angry, japan will surely run and hide behind their beloved americans for protection. yea, japan should not be messed with otherwise uncle sam will not be happy.

We must resist Chinese aggression in Asia. We must stop funding China's military rise by tying our investments to changes in China's behavior. And we must stop tolerating China's repression of minorities, of other states and of her own people by tying economic support and investment to improvements in respect for human rights. If we fail, we invite living out the late 1930's all over again and watching a dangerous state come to power where it begins to threaten the peace of the region and of the world.

yea...im pretty sure the "repressed" chinese people would want their country to get invaded again, suffer another century of humiliation, wealth stolen by greedy foreign powers, economy collapsing, carved into pieces, while you watch on the tv screen with satisfaction from your sofa as chinese people once again turned miserable and poor. i guess that must be your vision of "improving human rights" huh? or is that just an excuse so you can see chinese people suffer again?

you talk about the uighurs and tibetans? yea their lives must be so miserable because uighurs cant practice their religion freely, or tibetans not being allowed to have a picture of dalai lama on their wall, so i guess that it should justify your labelling of china as a threat to the world? ok, nevermind the western countries who got away with blatant murder as they bombed iraq and afghanastan to bits, and shot their women and children as though they were playing video games.

china, throughout her 5000yr history, has not invaded a single country outside of asia, unlike your beloved US of A, who without a doubt holds the title of being the most military aggressive nation in modern history since ww2.

Perhaps this escalation once again regarding Senakaku is one way to try to get the Chinese public to look away from its bubbling inward discontent with the authorities related with the train crash and deflecting it towards an outside (foreign) source of anger...

ROFL! what are you on about? if thats the case, then why has this not been published on the front page of all major chinese media outlet? nice try

difference between china/tibet and US/iraq/afgan. china is there to stay and keep tibet as part of china. the united states went in removed some bad people and is trying to leave the places. iraq and afganistan flags fly over their capitals, not the flag of the united states.

tibet has been part of china centuries before united states was even formed! centuries before the native americans had their lands stolen from them, send to reservation camps, and culture wiped out! the US aim is to not remove 'bad' governments, but to replace them with a pro-US government. the US has been involved in toppling democratically elected governments, in which many were replaced with dictatorships. so much for 'democracy' when the US have been working to overthrow them! oh btw, do you really think the iraqis were glad that the US came and bombed them country and slaughtered their women and children? yet here you are calling china the nazis. how ironic.

russia invaded the kurils after the war was over. most of the world considers them japanese islands illegally occupied by russia.

russia won the war and took kurils as the spoils. just like how japan stole the diaoyu islands after the war with china, through unequal treaties. if you think russia taking the kurils was unfail, then so was the case with the diaoyu islands. and please dont lie. most of the world does not consider the islands as being illegally occupied. just because the US supports japan's claims, it doesnt mean the whole world does too.

if china really wanted to play ball they would give up their claim on the islands in exchange for shared fishing/drilling rights with japan in the waters around.

oh right. if sharing was such easy thing, then why did japan reject russia's offer to share the kurils?

Tibet has learned what China is capable of. I hope no other country has too.

ooh tibet. you should ask the iraqis and afghans what the US is capable of. they should tell you the horrors which western media are too afraid to report. that is until wikileaks came along....

the chinese communist gov't killed more of its own people since world war two then any invading foreign army ever has in the history of china.

and how does that justify your wish that the US shouldve nuked china? are you gonna tell me that because mao killed his own people, other foreign nations should also be allowed to kill chinese people too? and please dont even bother pretending that you care for the ordinary chinese. pathetic you are.

america is all over the world because a lot of nations ask the americans to be there.

ha! tell that to the iraqis whom the US illegally invaded, bombed them, stole their oil, shoot up their women and children, torture and humiliate them in prisons. fact it, US is the most aggressive military nation since ww2.

china only cares for china. how can any nation have the audacity to claim waters hundreds of miles away from its land and only a few miles from the land of another nation.

ever heard of the british claims to the falkland islands? now thats something.

the senkaku's are barren rocks in the middle of no where. japan has been administering them for decades if not longer. china only recently lays claim to them because of the natural gas fields found on the sea floor near them. china doesn't even have the scruples to at least claim they trying to bring ethnic chinese people back into the nation of china like nazi germany did in the 1930s. its all about resources for china. more land for mining, more seas for fishing and drilling.

russia have controlled thekurils for decades now, so why do japan still desperately try to claim them? korea have controlled dokdo for decades now, so why is japan still claiming them? tell me that.

the US = biggest hypocrite in the world. the US criticise china for expanding her influence across asia, yet the americans think they have all the rights to insert their own influence in asia. the US criticise china for pollution, when it was the americans and her western friends who was the most polluted country on earth since the industrial revolution. the US criticise china for military spending, when it is the americans who spend more on military than any country in the world. the US criticise china for being aggressive, when it is the US who have been the most aggressive military country since ww2. the hypocrisy is killing me here.

sunhawk

it considers taiwan, tibet, senkaku islands, and several other islands owned other nations its territory. there are even some in china that claim okinawa belongs to china because the pre imperial japan gov't paid tribute to the emperor of china.

japan has territorial disputes with ALL her neighbours. diaoyu islands belong to china/taiwan which japan tried to steal through unequal treaties. kuril islands belong to russia and japanese should learn to stop making a fuss over it otherwise russia will have to teach japan another lesson. dokdo belongs to korea, and japan disgracefully banned their politicians from using air korea due to the dispute. if china is greedy, what does that make japan? fact is, japan still act like the imperialists they always were and claim the territories of all their neighbours. what a pathetic imperialist attitude from japan. btw, tibet, taiwan and inner mongolia have been part of china longer than okinawa being part of japan. so keep silent.
