Yes, there is no problem with the translation. Even most Japanese agree to that.

The Japanese simply refuse to accept their history and deny that Japan was the aggressor in WWII

Yes, Japan was able to do that because the fascist WWII criminals managed to regain control of Japan only shortly after the war ended through the LDP, a political party founded by the fascists, top WWII criminals and Yakuza godfathers with the money that they looted in Manchukuo i.e. Manchuria.

And these fascists gained the trust of the Americans by promising to help them to fight with the communists and suppress the leftists i.e the socialists in Japan. One of such criminals happened to be the grandfather of Shinzo Abe, Kishi Nobusuke who is even known to be funded by the CIA.

So if you were such a war criminal, would you admit your crimes after you retook the office just to be jailed once again? Unlikely right?

And that is exactly the reason why Japanese politicians who wished to apologize had to wait for 5 decades i.e. after the whole generation of Japanese WWII criminals had passed away or lost their influence before they were allowed by the LDP government to do so. And even then, their apologies will continue to be challenged by the 2nd, 3rd or 4th generations of these war criminals.

Posted in: New Chinese video game lets players retake disputed islands See in context

they are basically admitting that they do not have the islands (they can only dream to have them).

Actually the territorial dispute between China and Japan has already been settled after WWII when Japan agreed that those islands aren't part of Japan in a series of WWII peace treaties/ agreements that Japan signed with the Allies such as the Potsdam Declaration, Japanese Instrument of Surrender and San Francisco Peace Treaty.

For example, the San Francisco Peace Treaty demands that Japan gives up its claim over the South Kuril islands (the chain of islands between Hokkaido and Russia) and Ryukyu islands (the chain of islands between Taiwan/ Diaoyu islands and Kyushu). And it also obligates the US government to hand over the Ryukyu islands to the United Nations under the UN trusteeship system (UN system for decolonization founded in 1945) for future independence.

And the UN trusteeship system did help many former colonies throughout the world to gain independence since its foundation as can be seen from its website:

http://www.un.org/en/decolonization/nonselfgov.shtml

So instead of trying to regain the territories it lost to the Allies in WWII by force, why don't Japan honor its own words and comply with these peace treaties /agreements it signed with the Allies?

Posted in: Aso says he won't resign over Nazi comments See in context

Aso compared the opposition Democratic Party of Japan to the Nazis

I see that both the fascist Abe and Aso have a habit of accusing people whom they don't like as Nazi-like.

In a speech in 2010, Abe also accused China as Nazi-like, Soviet-like and fearful of the Americans.

This is what Abe said in 2010:

"Since the 1980s, China’s military strategy has rested on the concept of a “strategic frontier.” In a nutshell, this very dangerous idea posits that borders and exclusive economic zones are determined by national power, and that as long as China’s economy continues to grow, its sphere of influence will continue to expand. Some might associate this with the German concept of “lebensraum.”

There has been speculation that the impetus for China’s naval buildup was the 1996 crisis in the Strait of Taiwan. Whenever I think back on this incident, I recall the Cuban missile crisis of 1962 and the path that the Soviet Union took in its wake. The Soviet Union in 1962 and China in 1996 both suffered the indignity of capitulation in the face of the overwhelming naval power of the United States, and both countries threw themselves into building up their navies. We all know how well that worked out for the Soviet Union.

I have no way of knowing how the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party would view this analogy. Perhaps the party’s leaders, despite their fear of meeting the same fate as the Soviet Union, are unable to resist the call of the People’s Liberation Army for a military buildup. In any case, we can state with conviction that China has nothing to gain from an excessive expansion of its military."

China is probably the only situation in which they would support Japan. But the Js will go to Yasukuni Shrine and take everything back a step anyway.

Yes, the fascist war shrine is an important factor why the world doesn't trust Japan.

However, as a descendant of Yosuke Matsuoka, the biggest partner of Adolf Hitler in Japan and one of the 14 top war criminals who were promoted to gods by the Yasukuni war shrine, I don't think Shinzo Abe will ever stop his worshiping at the shrine.

Even Japan's fascist DPM, Taro Aso just urged Abe to go and pay respect to the Yasukuni gods recently.

And in the same speech, Taro Aso even suggested that Japan should learn the way of the Nazis on how Adolf Hitler changed the German constitution deceitfully in the 1930s.

So that's the reason for Abe's representative to make up stories about the ghost Chinese official that he met? And for Japan to tell the lie that it doesn't have any territorial dispute with China?

If Japan is really willing to settle its territorial dispute with China, it just need to comply with the numerous WWII agreements/ peace treaties it signed with the Allies such as the Potsdam Declaration, Japanese Instrument of Surrender and San Francisco Peace Treaty which basically say the Ryukyu islands, South Kuril islands and Diaoyu islands are all not part of Japan.

Using Tibet for fear mongering won't help as these south-east Asian countries have long accepted Tibet and even Taiwan as part of China.

Even western countries such as Great Britain accepted Tibet as part of China centuries ago as this is what the Tibetans told them in the 1700s when they traveled to Tibet for the very first time via India.

That fragile Fukushima nuclear reactors will be easily targeted by China ballistic missiles.

It needs not be Fukushima which is already leaking and there are so many nuclear power plants all over Japan.

Some Chinese told me they will use the "American method" to deal with Japan in a resumption of WWII that is when Japan tries to reclaim the territories it lost to the Allies in WWII such as the Ryukyu islands, South Kuril islands and Diaoyu islands by force.

So what they will do is that they will reissue (perhaps with Russia) the Potsdam Declaration which China co-signed with the US and which Japan accepted in its Japanese Instrument of Surrender but denied its acceptance later.

If Japan fails to surrender, it will be followed by bombing. Perhaps, bombing of certain cities with nukes or bombing of nuclear power plants.

After that, it will be followed by occupation. Perhaps, joint-occupation with Russia or the US or all three.

Guru29, perhaps "was" would be more appropriate than is. I think the US has recently succeeded in demoting itself to second place.

Both the US and China are very influential in south-east Asia. And almost all Asean countries are wary of offending either one and try to stay neutral. That's the reason why Abe's China containment policy is bound to fail.

I will say the current territorial dispute between China and certain Asean countries has almost zero effect on the foreign relations between them even though the relations between the US and some of them have improved. Currently, only China-Philippines relation is slightly affected. On the long run, China has some advantages over the US in that it can become closer to the Asean countries through economic integration. And the fact that there are many overseas Chinese living throughout the region will make the integration even easier.

As for Japan, other than economic influence, it has almost zero political influence in the region. That's probably because the Japanese in general believe in what Koizumi and Abe told them that as long as Japan has good relation with the US, it will have good relation with any country in the world. This sounds stupid to me.

Well, when a person accuses you of telling lies, don't you think it is an indirect challenge to you to prove that he is wrong?

“The officials urged Japan to calm the situation by not becoming fixated with the incidents and called on Japan to refrain from disclosing its data proving the radar lock,” Kyodo said.

Again, didn't the Chinese government say the "ghost officials" as described by Kyodo news is "maliciously concocted" and "fabricated out of thin air"?

China military officials admit ship radar lock: report

I read that Kyodo news' article before. Not only that the Japanese report contains no evidence but it even reported a statement from the Chinese navy which says the Japanese report is "maliciously concocted" and "fabricated out of thin air".

So the statement from nandakandamanda which says "China later admitted that the facts were essentially true" is obviously a lie.

The Chinese government had actually challenged Japan several times to disclose its so called evidence to the whole world but Japan had always declined. Why can't Japan accept the challenge?

What is the point of mentioning the San Francisco Peace Treaty which has got nothing to do with the Diaoyu/ Senkaku islands?

The San Francisco Peace Treaty merely obliged the US government to hand over the Ryukyu islands (i.e.Nansei Shoto south of 29deg. north latitude which clearly excludes the Diaoyu/ Senkaku islands) to the United Nations under the UN trusteeship system (UN system for decolonization) for future independence.

The allied victors of WWII decided that the islands are Japanese.

Nonsense. The Allies actually decided that Ryukyu islands, South Kuril islands and Diaoyu islands were all not part of Japan. That's the reason why they declared the following:

"The terms of the Cairo Declaration shall be carried out and Japanese sovereignty shall be limited to the islands of Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu, Shikoku and such minor islands as we determine."

in the Potsdam Declaration.

And Japan did announce its acceptance of this decision of the Allies in several documents including the Japanese Instrument of Surrender which says:

"We, acting by command of and in behalf of the Emperor of Japan, the Japanese Government and the Japanese imperial General Headquarters, hereby accept the provisions set forth in the declaration issued by the heads of the Governments of the United States, China and Great Britain on 26 July 1945, at Potsdam, and subsequently adhered to by the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, which four powers are hereafter referred to as the Allied Powers."

This is a big deal because the central belief of the Yasukuni Shrine i.e. the privatized State Shinto is Fascism. And it is only logical to believe that the believers of the Yasukuni Shrine who believe that the soldiers had been promoted to gods by the Shrine must also be believers of Fascism.

So the question is why can't Japan give up Fascism like what other countries such as Germany did?

It shows "Daioyutai (Uotsuri)" island in pink color to indicate it is Chinese. The Ryuukyuu people also knew about the island and used the characters given by the Chinese, although (eventually) pronounced in the Japanese language.

Not only the Ryukyu people knew the Diaoyu/ Senkaku Islands belong to China and the exact Chinese names of the islands, even the Japanese knew that centuries before they claimed these island based on Terra nullius i.e. "land belonging to no one" during its fascist expansion.

As a matter of fact, Japan did retain at least some Chinese names of the core islands even after it stole these islands along with Taiwan at the end of its invasion of China between 1894-1895.

And as you can see from the 1786 Japanese map that I provided in my previous post, Uotsurijima is actually the exact Japanese translation of the Chinese name of Diaoyutai i.e. fishing island/ platform.

And Kubajima (yellow tail island) is actually the exact Japanese translation of the Chinese name of yellow tail island.

Japan however used Senkaku Islands, the exact Japanese translation of the British name of Pinnacle islands for the island group.

The Japanese always claim that they are the first to discover and name these islands, but doesn't the use of old Chinese and British names of these islands alone a proof that at least the Chinese and British did discover these islands before the Japanese?

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Posted in: Japanese lawmaker on boat near disputed islands See in context

It gives evidence that at least both Japan and China used the islands for navigational purposes prior to 1895

Japan only claims to have discovered the Diaoyu/ Senkaku Islands in 1885 during its fascist expansion period aka State Shinto period. However, major Japanese maps published in Japan centuries before its fascist expansion not only depicted these islands as Chinese territories but even showed the given Chinese names and the Ryukyus (Okinawa), i.e. the island chain between Japan and Diaoyu/ Senkaku Islands was depicted as an independent country. You can find one such map here http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/64/1786年中国往琉球海路图2.jpg

Japan even claimed Taiwan, a Chinese island at the south-west of Diaoyu/ Senkaku Islands with the same principles of Terra nullius during its first invasion of Taiwan in 1874. They were however refuted by the Chinese with official documents and had to shelve their claim over Taiwan temporarily.

I wonder if the newly reported domestic troubles (Xinjiang, shadow banking etc.) in China will force the Chinese government to start something over the Senkakus soon again?

From what I know, China is waiting for the Japanese navy to act first. Once Japan fired a shot, China will reissue the Potsdam Deceleration, i.e the ultimatum jointly drafted by the US, UK and Chinese governments which says:

"The terms of the Cairo Declaration shall be carried out and Japanese sovereignty shall be limited to the islands of Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu, Shikoku and such minor islands as we (US, UK, China and Russia) determine."

However, since the US might not be willing to reissue the Potsdam Deceleration with China this time, China might reissue it jointly with Russia.
