Matthew, I have to disagree to a point with your statement above. I am an American and a prior service member. As with my girlfriend, I too avoid the Gate 2 street on weekends and holidays. I certainly can hold my own, but its not worth the trouble of coming head to toe with a drunk service member or group of them. Its also ironic that I can walk through Matsuyama without worrying about running into trouble since there are only Okinawans walking about. I also have many military friends that refuse to drink around the Okinawa City area because of the drunk American issue.

Ringside, I feel those same feelings. The sad part is, this is the same reason my girlfriend refuses to walk down Gate 2 street at night to come home. We live in an apartment right behind the main drag. I can guarantee you that she is not afraid of the Japanese customers that are wandering on Gate 2 street during those times. Can you guess who she is avoiding?

"Here" refers to Okinawa, which is part of Japan, however, Okinawa is not all Japan. If you did a little bit of studying before you let you brains fall out of your mouth, you would understand this.

Ronald F Stark-Wow! Such one-sidedness in your comment. What about the Ospreys endagering the people of Okinawa? What about the common sense of both the U.S. and Japan? The Okinawan voice means nothing? Maybe both governments should get off thier butts and listen for once. Many of these protesters are demonstrating the Osprey...not the bases, not the Marines,...just the Ospreys.
