......sigh yeah the BS propaganda certainly grates!

These bullets trains in Nagano are what the generators in the BASEMENT are to Fukushima!!  Simple stupidity!

As another astute poster mentions above, with FULL KNOWLEDGE of a huge typhoon, services stopped, WHY ON EARTH were these trains not moved from the yard to tracks with higher clearance, TOO SIMPLE, yet I suspect have never have been on the minds of the "powers" that be at JR!!

Also, what on earth is Osaka doing on that list? A bankrupt, treeless concrete wasteland where a pint of ethyl alcohol and a burnt squid on a stick is a gourmet meal?

Haha Alfie you almost made me spit out my coffee LOL!! A bit harsh, but also a bit truthful, I have had a few sticks & drinks in Umeda area in places like that LOL!!!

Japans big cities are GREAT, but also awful at the same time, beautiful & UGLY, again at the same time, part of their charm!

But to REALLY enjoy life in BIG J-cities you need serious COIN to do so sadly!

I live in the sticks & LOVE going into the city when I can enjoy but I also LOVE getting back out!

As I have been saying for ages & ages THE WEST has played a very LARGE part in creating the MONSTER that China has become!

Now western business & govts too are being reduced to a bunch of ki$$ a$$es  & its become beyond embarrassing to watch!

Its now well past the point, the way China acts THEY have made it crystal clear they are at economic war with the west, ……

Said it before I will say it again its long over due for the west to pull the plug & get the HELL out of China!

The longer we wait the MORE it will cost us in LIVES & LIVELYHOODS!!!

Posted in: Kansai Electric gift scandal widens to non-nuclear officials See in context

This kind of corruption has been rampant over all industries nationwide since FOREVER!!

Tax authorities have found, meanwhile, that from fiscal 2013 to 2018, orders placed by Osaka-based Kansai Electric with Yoshida Kaihatsu totaled some 6.47 billion yen, and that the construction firm paid around 300 million yen in commission to Moriyama.

Haha so the tax office has now dug a bit just so they cover their own corrupt butts! Typical, now they get to decide who is sacrificed on the alter of corruption so the rest can continue unabated, more to follow!

We need to ENSURE this doesn't limit speech, INCLUDING stuff we don't like!

Posted in: Japan to expand app-using customs declaration ahead of Olympics See in context

Every passenger is stopped and has their passport scanned by Customs in Japan as well as filling out a declaration form-a monumental waste of time in most cases...

I think you are confusing Immigration with Customs, Customs usually only glances at passports if they look at them at all

Posted in: Abe vows to improve social welfare amid graying population See in context

Aly R,

Sadly it has INDEED come to that, a sinking ship!

If the Mrs & I had kids I don't think I could forgive myself if I stayed here, again pains me to say that but that is just the reality & its getting worse & worse, hardly ever hear good news about people doing well or the country getting better at this or that or here & there its almost ALWAYS negative!

And Japan losing kids from Japanese\non-Japanese marriages is a DOUBLE whammy for Japan, BUT people cant be expected to sacrifice their kids IF they have better opportunities elsewhere.

And Cda's lifestyles BLOW Japan out of the water bigtime, was home in July, just no comparison. But it aint perfect lots more left wing nut jobs back home LOL!! They are so far left they BARK up the BUTTS of the right wingers for crying out loud & cities are painfully expensive.

BUT there are futures there, I look at my brothers two kids out of Uni & they are doing incredibly well!

Would love to see Japan do better but it IS its OWN worst enemy sadly!

Posted in: Abe vows to improve social welfare amid graying population See in context

Japan: Form over Substance.

Or as I like to say:    Perception is MORE Important than Reality!

For me it has gone WAY beyond depressing watching Japan do itself in, I have just become numb, if Japan & Japanese are hell bent on doing NOTHING (which IS a conscious CHOICE) then LET THEM!

All we can do here is live for OURSELVES & loved ones, pains me to write that but that is the conclusion I came about 15yrs ago because CLEARLY the govt doesn't give a damn & the people keep electing the SAME fools who are driving the country INTO the ground!

It is nothing short of depressing to see how this place has withered over the years, as viewed from my annual snapshot.

At least you LEFT for  better pastures I hope anyway, yeah I live in the inaka & again depressing seeing so many old folks & watching the numbers of abandoned homes, businesses sky rocket around me

Posted in: Man arrested over 9-year-old stepson's murder See in context

Obviously this is very tragic & sad & should NOT have happened.

However many dismiss the potential reason as to why this happened, in the animal world it MANY mammals  do NASTY things to offspring they have NO DIRECT GENETIC connections, simple fact.

That of course is NO EXCUSE for what happened only a POSSIBLE reason why, I in NO WAY condone this murder at all.

We all THINK we are in full control of our faculties BUT BIOLOGY & EVOLUTION can DO play a much bugger role in our day to day lives than many can see & would not admit to but happens all the same

May this bot RIP & the stepfather get his due time in jail!

Posted in: Elderly people account for record 28.4% of Japanese population See in context

As I keep harping about here on jt YOU need to learn what a population pyramid is and LOOK at Japans more recent stats, it AINT GOOD.

The number of newborns has been dropping for a long time, so even if the birthrate were to somehow increase in the future the population WILL continue to decrease over time.

And the big question is can the economy etc SURVIVE as the old folks shift through their "golden" years, it is NOT looking very good, in fact one only has to see the daily news to know its not good for a great number of the elderly NOW in Japan!

Posted in: Minnesota governor says Japan can't pick up U.S.-China trade war slack See in context

As the top poster CORRECTLY pointed out, Japans population is well into DECLINE, so there is now way(except for the occasional small spike) that Japan will be importing more corn or soy from the US, it will & likely is already in decline like so many other major commodities like oil & gas etc

Posted in: Elderly people account for record 28.4% of Japanese population See in context

For any enterprising person in Japan, this is the biggest business opportunity. If you can develop products and services for old people, the market for them in other countries is also going to grow. With Japan aging earlier than other countries, needs will emerge here faster than in other countries.

Kohakuebisu,  problem is while some old folks have $$ a great many DO NOT, there isn't much disposable income for people to even afford a simple decent room somewhere in a care facility with a couple meals let alone for enterprising folks to capitalize on them......
