Posted in: Student dies of alcohol poisoning at party in Ibaraki See in context

There are some differences in the liver of Japanese (and Native Americans as well... maybe more). Some will get sick off of one drink, some can have a few, others can drink like Westerners... it is genetic. Sad he didn't know his limit.

Wow! What a complete load of crap! A good manager knows their employees, what motivates them, what they are good at, what they are bad at... Looking for systemic answers that aren't indemic of a country but of a good company... Need to think more globaly... just a truly crappy over-baked analysis from someone who must live in acedemia and has no experience in actually managing. Or just a crappy manager who recognizes he isn't any good and needs to change it but thinks it is because of his country of origin vs just not having the right skills.

Posted in: First gay wedding held at Tokyo Disney Resort See in context

Disney in the US is super gay friendly. Every year in Orlando Florida there is a Gay Day at Disney. Though not official, it is not discouraged and probably encouraged. The entire park is filled with LGBTQ folks. The parade is something not to be missed as well when all the gay staff are dancing for family. I was suprised when someone at Tokyo Disney intially thought a gay wedding would not be OK. The company in the US was one of the first to offer benefits to gay couples. I like a lot of things about Japan, homophobia isn't one of them. Historically homosexuality is rampant in Japanese history. I'm sorry that was lost along the way and hope that acceptance will again return. I have been suprised at how much the butch/fem dynamic is expected in some parts of the culture. Who you are has nothing to do with who you are attracted to.

Six times the legal limit in Japan is still lower than the typical US (.08 according to Wiki). In the US he would not be considered drunk driving. Of course you need to follow the laws in the country you are in, but it is good to recognize this perspective. DUI here is not actually intoxicated for typical Americans. Curious what actually caused the accident... no mention, just blame the American... too much of that...

I like that the author of the story wrote "...wonderful world of crossdressing".

Japan's version of Tea Party. Bad idea, just a really bad idea. It is amazing how much people can forget in a few generations. Lead themselves right back to the mistakes of old (nationalism leading to wars). I will continue to have hope that Japanese wisdom will prevail over saber rattling foolishness.

Posted in: Woman dies after inhaling herb in Tokyo hotel See in context

30,000 suicides a year is way more than the few deaths from drugs. I am curious how this article says "inhale" and not smoking... I believe this herbs are meant for smoking. Darwin award for this one...
