I'm so mad I didn't even read the whole article, nor many comments. I just need to say how much I HATE nuclear anything. Mankind has unleashed an incredible disaster. I need to go cool down a bit...

Posted in: Best beef See in context

Way back when we first came to Japan, me wife was buying ground horse meat before we could read kanji. About first six months, it was horse chili, spaghetti, etc. Heheheheheheeee, very good, and since, I've eaten bazashi. I still prefer beef. Don't know if I've ever had Kobe beef, but that Yamagata stuff is hard to beat! I was in Kansas one time, and host served us Kansas beef roast. It was the best roast I've ever had. I just like good food. Japan is the best place I've been in the world for good food on a general basis, everyday good food I mean.

As a geezer who has lived in Japan a long time, I can't help it - I kind of cringed watching that. I've become very Japanese.

Posted in: How religious are Japanese people? See in context

Hmmm, toleration, eh? What about the Japanese who become Christians and then do not offer prayers to the dead, etc., do not attend Buddhist or Shinto rituals their company has. Sometimes they might be tolerated, but all I know surely have not been tolerated very well by their families, workmates, etc. I know a few who've been told they don't belong to the family anymore. A couple I know didn't get promotions everyone knew they should have had.

Oh well, all this toleration mess ain't always working out so good.

TokyoGasSEP. 06, 2013 - 05:13PM JST I wonder if they were singing any Japanese jump rope songs while playing. I remember being a kid and there were a few songs sang by us while playing. Are there any Japanese jump rope songs?

This one: "My back aches, My pants too tight, My hips keep a'shakin' From the left to the right. From the left, bom bom, To the right, bom bom..."

Posted in: What do you think about the casting of Johnny Depp as Tonto in the 'Lone Ranger' film? See in context

To me a big problem with movies supposed to be set in the 1800s (I think this one is), they use current ways of speaking, styles, etc. What? Lone Ranger with the 2000s era three day beard???!! I'm not a movie buff anyway. If more people were like me, Hollywood actors would about be homeless.

Heads in sand, eh? Nope, these old boys are way in over their heads! Japan does need to call in nuclear experts from everywhere to help. I think all these nuclear scientists are way in over their heads by having crated this nuclear mess - I hate it!

I like some NHK programs, but I hate their collection system! I don't know, maybe they should go to a volunteer payment America uses for PBS. And, they do have some sponsors, but no ads during programming. NHK's system of payment is tacky.

Posted in: How has Japan changed for the better since you have been here and how has it changed for the worse? See in context

I came in 1980, 7-11s were everywhere, and foreigners could own real estate, just to correct those.

Good - less smoking, more escalators, more highways roads not as crowded, more train lines, ATMs are better (still not like Thailand), great food!, easy to live healthy, some more things, but that'll do for now.

Bad - more divorce (better than America, but increased), school bullying, general bullying, $ has about died (my first 4 years here, averaged ¥250 per $), still too controlling in parks, etc. a few more, but that's enough.

All in all, Japan is a good place to live I think. Been here so long, I know the good, bad, and ugly and still love Japan.

I'm going soon to tell everyone to keep back from Kim-bo's bomb:

"I wouldn't want to be within 400 - 500 yards of one of them nuclear bombs when it goes off!" A WW1 mentor, really.
