Decades ago it was called EEC, to remind you of the history, European Economic Community, suddenly some bright French President and German Chancellor decided it should become a European Union without explaining the ultimate goal.
In actual and historical fact the main aim of the EEC, as stated in its preamble, was to "preserve peace and liberty and to lay the foundations of an ever closer union among the peoples of Europe".

Go to any convenience store and all you see is a vast array of bland lager, scores of them. Much as with the only choice white bread, Japanese white rice, unimaginative sandwiches. There are literally hundreds of different beer styles but as with much else here, little choice.
