I actually just showed this to some J-friends and their reaction was just a shake of the head of disappointment and they went back to what they were doing.

HOW DO PEOPLE NOT CARE?!

If I could convince the person I'm related to by marriage to leave this country, I'd have left yesterday.

I'm totally for old people being able to continue working if it keeps them happy and makes them feel younger.

But I'm worried larger companies will take advantage of this and pay retirees less in order to save themselves money and still keep wages low for their current workers.

If you can find a senior to work for less, what's the motivation to give someone who hasn't retired yet and has no guarantee of a full pension what they're really worth now.

The Whig Party was a real party in the 19th Century. Got 4 presidents elected. Then anti-slavery and other issues came along and the out of touch Whigs slowly died off.

Is it possible this is the end of the Republican Party? How did they go from great men like Lincoln and James Garfield to Trump, Cruz, and Rubio?

So sad of an evolution.

Posted in: Sweeping wins for Trump, Clinton on Super Tuesday See in context

Ha! Donald Trump! Can you believe it?! Talks of mass deportations and gets the coveted KKK endorsement and his own party wants him to lose, yet he's still winning! Ha!

Disenfranchised America is truly frightening. All those poorly educated-low income-lookin for payback voters are being led by a very good snake-oil salesman/carnival barker. Wow. He can and literally has said any and all things unspeakable and his ratings stay steady or go up in some areas.

If Trump and Clinton remain in the end, it'll be the election of hate: You either hate Hillary or you hate Trump and will vote just to stop either one from being elected. Could you imagine this? Rubio and Cruz are equally as frightening to me. And it's not I don't love Bernie's radical ideas of free everything for everyone, but I don't know how you could just retcon the entire country and wipe out the current systems he wants to wipe out.

America is indeed in an interesting time.

Here, it's the same old same old. Either no change or trying the same things over and over that didn't work before but who cares, there's no election possibility here to give you even the shred of hope. Japan is doomed. And I don't think Japanese are all too concerned. A perfectly docile country.

Personally, I'd love a Bernie or a Trump in Japan. It's not racist to say every Japanese politician is alike and indistinguishable.

Posted in: Review: Rock rocks with Oscars monologue; show's a snooze See in context

Rock was predictable. There was nothing as savage as what Gervais did. Gervais attacked from all sides. Rock did all the jokes people for and against him hosting thought he'd do.

And then Rock kept going with Black Hollywood vs. The World, even rich Black Hollywood vs. The Police, and on and on. Did he forget in that LA Times breakdown of Academy members that Latino and Asian members were fewer than black members?

In that video skit of black comedians in the roles of the nominated white actors, it could have been mixed up comedians of different ethnicities or sexualities. But why couldn't he do that? Cuz beyond white or black, not many other groups get airtime on SNL or other media outlets.

I just wish that Rock looked at the bigger picture of the race discussion in Hollywood instead of swinging at softball jokes.

Posted in: Rock comes out swinging at Oscars; 'Spotlight' wins Best Picture See in context

Can't wait for next year's Oscars: #OscarsSoBlackAndWhite.

My biggest issue with Rock's monologue was that it was just as racist as what those are protesting: Diversity means we need black winners, black nominees, black talent behind the camera.

Rock never mentioned anything other than black discrimination during the whole monologue. I understand why Black Actors Matter to him, but come on, this was a chance for him to call for equality across the whole spectrum.

Every Asian, Latino, or LGBT talent would love to have the problems Black Hollywood has.

Award for Black Friend? How about Award for Mexican Gang Member or Award for Silent Asian Martial Arts Expert.

Seriously, first White Men in Hollywood had it all. Then White Women broke in. Years later, Black Actors were getting significant roles. Years after that, Black Women played a bigger part. And years and years and years after that, Asians are still just Jet Li or Ken Watanabe and Mexicans are still mostly gang members. That's a slow eveloution.

All Rock's monologue proved to me was he wants progress, as long as it's progress for your own.

No, but you intentionally broke up John's marriage, viciously and maliciously cut Julian Lennon out from his father's life and refused to share his father's memorabilia with him. She ruined a family (John did, too).

That's far worse than breaking up one of the greatest bands of all time.

Los Angeles, on the bright side, great design.

On the down side, you're going on with this Olympic bid.

You're still crawling out of the Enron hole and now you want to fall in the Olympic money pit?

Posted in: Japan may change temple map icon to avoid Nazi swastika confusion See in context

It's just a map for the common tourist. It's not rewriting history books or changing the temple symbol into McDonald's golden arches.

It seems to me the people most offended by this are those who is not the intended demographic: ex-pats who live in Japan or are well-versed in Japanese culture.

Not every tourist in every country looks up Japanese map symbols online before they come. Is that such a heinous crime? A lot of people like to learn about a country as they go and while they are here. And that's what I'm sure people will do. No one is calling Japan a Nazi country or some ignorant thing like that.

All they are saying is the symbol for a temple and other symbols are confusing and they want to help the tourist.

Posted in: Japan may change temple map icon to avoid Nazi swastika confusion See in context

They're just changing the symbol on maps for tourists, they're aren't totally eradicating the symbol from history. It will help foreigners locate temples easier on a map. What's the big deal?

You can still have the symbol at the temple itself or explain what the symbol means and it's history at the temple to educate those who didn't know. The whole point of a map is to locate where you want to go and then get educated once you get there. It's like making street signs with various languages on them, to help people.

Okay, got it.

I'm always on the look out for ways to sneak away from work and to avoid working the full eight hours.

Be a smoker, get smoking breaks

Be a Muslim, get prayer breaks at the company and get Ramadan off.

Be Jewish, also, and get Yom Kippur off.

Christmas is an automatic holiday for most companies so I don't need to fake Christianity for that.

Fake pregnancy and get longer toilet breaks and don't have to stand or sit for long periods of time.

Fake diabetes and may need to take breaks at certain times for my insulin injection.

...I think I'm about to 2.5 hrs of an average 8 hr work day.

Posted in: Calls for boycott of Oscars grow over diversity of nominees See in context

If an Adam Sandler movie was one of the 5 nominees over Chi-raq or Creed or Straight Outta Compton, I'd totally agree with the boycott. But all those nominated are deserving.

But I do agree that the Academy needs to be changed.

Oscar voters are nearly 94% Caucasian and 77% male, The Los Angeles Times found. Blacks are about 2% of the academy, and Latinos are less than 2%. Asians are non-existent.

And Oscar voters have a median age of 62, the study showed. People younger than 50 constitute just 14% of the membership.

Academy membership shouldn't be a lifetime service. Those still active or new talent should be given a vote.

Utterly pointless.

You're basically saying, We aren't interested in attracting the average foreign customer to our park, which desperately needs more customers, because at least 95% of the average foreign tourist does not care to experience KPP's world.

USJ needs help.

Universal Studios in America has updated itself three times over while USJ has only changed once, when the added Harry Potter. The Biohazard attraction is a haphazard experience and these anime/manga tie-ins look poorly made and are just thrown into the park without care for aesthetics or overall experience.

The New York street scene at USJ looks just as dirty as the real NYC streets. Backdraft experience was great over 20 years ago, so was Back to the Future, T2, but my god, update!

Make legitimate new attractions instead of trying to be cheap and throwing together junk as passing it off as new like they did with the Attack on Titan "attraction" which was seemed thrown together without a real purpose.

I'd love to buy USJ and fix it up. So much potential and so many newer film properties that could be turned into great thrill rides.

"But Walt Disney Co also says the park will reflect China’s own culture—something Chinese officials sought to ensure before permitting the icon of US entertainment to enter the country."

So does that mean I get my black market DVDs on the streets of Frontierland and the toys sold at gift shops will have excessive levels of lead, and oh, will the sign in front of the entrance say "Disney" or "Dizney"?

And slave wages and filthy water and polluted air will also be a staple as well?

Seriously, with all the horrific human right's violations and deplorable living conditions for the vast majority of Chinese people, why go to a Chinese Disney?

I just think these 1-5 examples are all just classic examples of human personality regardless of where the person lives. Those living abroad or even in their own countries fall in a rut or love hard a culture that's not their own.

Again, Japan is just another country. What is that quote, wherever you go, there you are.

This topic could be titled "5 life-altering mistakes foreigners make when living in _____"

It's the same thing for anyone who's making a home in any country that is not where they were born. I know Japanese people living in the US, Australia, Belgium and they whine constantly about their new country.

Japan is not that unique. It's just a country like every other country with it's own history and culture, yes, but deep down it's filled with the same people: great people, polite people, jerks, and we all gotta pay our bills and want the government out of our lives.

Posted in: Culture clash: 10 insider tips for visiting Japan See in context

Ah, more great life lessons from RocketNews24, Japan's unofficial propaganda machine.

Some of these inane tips are either insulting to foreigners (yeah, we all walk shirtless and shoeless outside cuz we're still closer to apes) and some are insulting to Japanese (level up the wardrobe cuz the Japanese must always wear the best! or don't ask a Japanese person for help cuz they don't want to really help you, but only do it out of obligation!)

Or these rules are just an insult to common sense.

Japan is just like every country I've ever been to. There are nice people, polite people, rude people, and poopheads. Act accordingly to the situation no matter who you are, where you are, or where you're from.

Business is falling off 60% because the media has the already normally skittish Japanese even more afraid. J-Media is always filled with crime video from overseas.

France will bounce back. The country and people must persevere and they need tourism dollars to help that.
