Truly sad that at his age he did not want to continue his life. We need to watch our friends, family and children for signs of distress. Life is special and only available for a short time so don't waste it. RIP young man.

They committed the crime in Japan and outside as well. They planned the crime outside and inside Japan. Why is this a question of who has the ball in their court.

Too bad. I especially love Fuji apples and my late J-wife was an excellent pastry chef. She made strudel or an old fashioned apple pie lightly dusted with cinnamon powder and confectionary sugar with a hot cup of black tea, yum, yum. Hope they find the thieves and make them peel every apple in the jail's kitchen.

Posted in: Finding relief from sleepless nights amid pandemic See in context

I've been unemployed for months, stressed out and can't sleep. I am an insomniac and for a sleep aid I use CBD gummies. They do the trick and they are legal in the USA but why not in Japan? Better than drinking alcohol until you pass out, no hangover and you basically can't die from an overdose either. Japan needs to wake up to the needs of it's population and promote sleep enhancing medicines because everyone is so stressed out and needs relief.

Posted in: Girl injured by 17-year-old boy's suicide leap in Osaka dies in hospital See in context

I can not imagine walking down the street and getting hit and dying from some idiot jumping onto the street below. What a waste of two lives. If you want to terminate your life, please consider how to to do it, the consequences and how your death and means will impact others. Not to be mean but people that commit suicide are definitely in need of therapy but don't take others with you if you decide to end yours.

Love this photograph. I have many of my daughter during the girl's day celebrations in Japan that were also celebrated here in the USA that look similar. Its nice that children can enjoy their cultural heritage and are safe enough to walk around their neighborhoods and enjoy their lives.

Please give that child up for adoption and not throwing away a life. That child could have been a parent or a person who made the world a better place. Life is precious dont waste it selficiouciily to satisfy your personal needs and where is the father? Sad story.

Posted in: Japanese manners debate: Is it OK to tell your coworkers 'I’ve found a new job?' See in context

I do not think it is proper to announce to your co-workers that you are leaving for a better job. What message does that send to the company and it's employees? It is better for that employee's manager to announce the departure unless that person was terminated and have a going away party in some izakaya.

Office culture is of course different all over the world but any company's biggest asset is not the product but the people who support the product and wake up each morning excited to go to work and like their management IMHO.

Posted in: Judo in Japan getting unwanted scrutiny for abuse, violence See in context

I learned Judo in the 1960's from a French Judo sensei who was a world class Judo master and have only had to use my skills once. When I was out on the town with my late j-wife in Shizuoka we were walking home and came upon a bar where a guy was tearing it up. I went into Judo mode and put him out on the street, pinned him down and called the cops who were surprised that a gaijin nailed this guy. It's amazing that your basic instincts kick in when necessary.

Is Trump clinically able to be the president of the United states? Personally I am very uncomfortable with what is going on with Trump, Corona virus and all the etceteras. Makes me want to store all my stuff in a shipping container, liquidate all my assets and buy a casita in Costa Rica.

My late j-wife and I gave our son and daughter traditional Japanese given names. Personally I dislike all the unconventional spelling for unusual names but I am old school and I am not going to change and hopefully others will understand my ideas, good or bad in their opinions.

I think Trump and his cronies made this charade up. Why, it's because he can use this event as an excuse for losing the election to Biden. Trump does not like being the president and this is a way out. IMHO

Posted in: 4 million acres burned in California wildfires See in context

I am currently living in my US California home and we received fire evacuation alerts on our cell phones to prepare ourselves to leave, air is full of smoke. Pretty scary stuff. In Japan you have earthquakes and tsunami's, California we have earthquakes and fires plus unaffordable living conditions, my family members on the East coast are dealing with tropical storms and hurricanes and we all have to deal with this Corona virus as well. Tough times for all and hope this settles down. Be smart and stay safe.

Not wearing a mask and meeting with people already infected is insane. Pelosi should be put in charge and Pence in his usual behavior mode has not even made a public speech and says nothing. The president is incapacitated and the law says that when the president can't function the role of commander and chief passes down the ladder, which would be Pence then Pelosi but Pence is and is not a leader. Hope our enemy's or perceived enemy's don't take this opportunity to their advantage.

Watch 12 monkeys with Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt. Set them free, zoos are prisons for animals. Zoos were created for the amusement of people that want to see exotic animals but be protected from them. Zoos say they are doing animals a favor and saving them from extinction. Maybe we should round up a lot of ethnically different groups of humans and isolate them in in human zoos to protect us all from extinction. Maybe that is why we are going to colonize Mars??? LOL

My apartment in shizuoka had a magnificent view of Fuji san in the winter months when there is lower humidity. Lived in shizuoka shi for many years and through my times there even recently visiting I love the atmosphere but it's getting to much like Nagoya or Hamamatsu, big city and losing it's small town feel. Younger son and I will hike Fuji san and stay in a hut near the summit then a few hours before sunrise will sprinkle the last ashes of my late wife and his mom on the summit.
