While the sports writers in the US make a meal out of the Canada-US rivalry, the real meeting of men is the Canada-Russia rivalry. Sorry America, you're really fun to play against and you are willing to step up and play hard but the main event for Canadian hockey fans will always be playing against Russia.

I never said what a female has to worry about behind her while trying to fight the enemy in front of her. I said, "The problem 'I' have..." It's a personal opinion.

I never said that you said.... I was making an analogous connection between your worrying about some homo behind you when fighting and what a female soldier must worry about if soldiers indeed worry about sex on the battlefield.

Yes I know this is your opinion, most of what is written on these boards is opinion. I have written my opinion - to state the obvious.

I don't want to be worried about what's behind me.

So a female soldier has to worry about her fellow soldier behind her while trying to fight the enemy in front of her? If that is true, then the US military has much bigger problems.

And who thinks about sex in the heat of battle?

Like it or not, he chose to support Obama because McCain was White.

Others voted for Obama because he was black or because he was a dem or had a clear message or thought he could bring change ...

And many voted for McCain because he was white or voted because he was republican or was a military man or thought he was a maverick ...

There are many many reasons why people vote, however, you always seem to make a meal out of the skin color.

The best hockey games are always with the Yanks or the Ruskies. This game is no exception. Didn't care for the results, but I wasn't bored, both teams played like the game should be played. Congrats to the US team, hope you lose the next time our teams meet.

I guess the pro-Obama media need to play up the anti-government angle...

Did the guy fly his plane into a big business headquarters? a church? kill his wife? Ah, no, no and no. He flew his plane into the IRS offices which killed one person and injured several others. That is probably why the media focuses on that fact.

Posted in: Man, angry at IRS, crashes small plane into Texas building See in context

"Why isn't this guy being called a terrorist?"

I guess he could be, close call really. On one hand an angry taxpayer trying to stick to the Man and on the other a bubbling over of public discontent over how the rich have been coddled and protected while the masses sink deeper into debt and are punished by the banks and the IRS. It would make sense for the powers that be to not call him a terrorist because that would lionize his actions and make him out to be an anti-government martyr, which is already happening now.

And to repeat what has been said, Islam has nothing to do with whether or not this guy is called a terrorist.

NPR to boring I guess.

That would be "too" boring, but then how would you know?

Anyone who thinks this "joke" is a good thing is insensitive, to say the least.

The girl with Down Syndrome in the cartoon had a life and was articulate, where was insensitivity? The joke was about Palin, not about DS. Would it have been more sensitive to portray her as less articulate and closer to an actual person with DS? Or how about not portraying her at all?

Is Palin part of the routine, an extended joke beyond the 2-D cartoon and into 3-D real life? Clever marketing by Fox, leveraging its assets in two different segments of TV... or have news, opinion and cartoons now merged into one.

This is good for democracy, America and the world. Perhaps there can be some less hyperventilation (on both sides) and more elbow grease (from both sides) in solving the nation's ills.

Posted in: Limbaugh's Haiti comments 'really stupid,' says White House See in context

Typical leftist tactic: Attack the messenger and not the message

Well the messenger's message is this: “Everything this president sees is a political opportunity, including Haiti, and he will use it to burnish his credentials with minorities in this country and around the world, and to accuse Republicans of having no compassion,”

Which is false since Obama has asked President Bush for his assistance given his success with the tsunami in the Indian Ocean. Imagine that. The message is a lie ergo the messenger is a liar.

The so-called "political opportunism"? from a politician? I am shocked. Joking aside, the response from the WH would be basically the same regardless who is in office. G.W. Bush did basically the same in Asia to his and America's credit.

As for the minorities around the world, would that be the whites in Africa?

I see Hehe ("he") is out USA bashing as usual.

Criticizing blowhards is not "USA bashing".

I am sure that some Haitians are already complaining about the "service." They should feel fortunate to get any aid at all.

Huh? The people of Haiti are dying by the minute and you sneer at them while praising your own country's relief efforts? That's pretty callous.

Good luck with your issues.

I am still at a loss as to what his "lie" was.

You're at a loss because the reality is too uncomfortable.

Try reading what I previously wrote: "Also he invited the support of President G.W. Bush to help in the relief effort, which may have been politically motivated, but if he wanted to make the Republicans look bad, why extend a hand to his political foe?"

Limbaugh claims Obama is out to shame the Republicans but yet he asks GW Bush to help because of his experience with the tsunami relief effort in the Indian Ocean a few years back. So which is the truth? Reality or Limbaugh?

@Hehehohohaha again you fail to fully understand the "media tweak"

Do I really want to "fully understand" all the nuance in Limbaugh's "media tweak"? From what I have heard coming out of his mouth? Nah, I got better things to do with my time than trying to understand a liar such as Limbaugh.

Posted in: Limbaugh's Haiti comments 'really stupid,' says White House See in context

What does "media tweak" mean? Saying "outlandish things" does include non-truths, hyperboles, mischaracterizations, misdirections, half-truths etc. but truth does not need to be part of the mix.

Now to say,

“Everything this president sees is a political opportunity, including Haiti, and he will use it to burnish his credentials with minorities in this country and around the world, and to accuse Republicans of having no compassion,”

Is to ignore the fact that no matter who was in the White House, the response would have been the same. Would there have been political calculations made? Probably, since the WH is filled with ... politicians. But to assert that the political calculation is the only calculation in order to stick it to the Republicans is something that only a child could dream up... or an adult who wants to distort, distract... tweak, if you will, an uncomfortable reality that President Obama is responding as a responsible and compassionate leader of the United States should.

Also he invited the support of President G.W. Bush to help in the relief effort, which may have been politically motivated, but if he wanted to make the Republicans look bad, why extend a hand to his political foe?

So yeah. I think Limbaugh is a liar.

I think it is funny that he does what he calls the "media tweak of the day" and he says something outlandish to see if the liberal news networks run with it

Um, if he didn't say outlandish things he wouldn't get the ratings because perhaps he has nothing but outlandish things to say. Essentially he lies on radio so he can improve his ratings. That is hilarious.

Nope, Japan aid is only at 3.5 million dollars.

Yes, you're correct. I just glanced at the money amount (¥30 million) and assumed it was dollars.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Posted in: What do you think of the international response so far to the Haiti earthquake? See in context

Actually, Japan is sending over $35 million in money and supplies. Of course, America's response has been more significant since Haiti is very close, it has 40,000 Americans there, it has the means, and to do nothing would be inviting a security risk. To expect Japan (or anyone else) to match America's contribution is a bit unrealistic.

The international response generally has been overwhelming. It is difficult to find a nation not responding to Haiti's crisis.

This is an insult As far as America is the only country that ever helps Haiti is that the reason why Haiti has been a hell hole for generations?

Really? Poking holes in arguments is insulting to America?

Haiti has been desperately poor for all of its existence. While many nations, not only America, claim to have helped Haiti, their miserable condition has persisted for decades. I question and doubt the value of the help given (regardless where is comes from) when the results seem sorely lacking.

One can only hope that this current relief effort does in fact reflect a sincere effort to get Haiti finally on a stable path.

You stated that, rich nations meddle, obviously implying that middle, and poor nations, do not meddle. Otherwise, you would have stated, all or most nations meddle!

Boy you really have a hate on for smaller and poorer nations, don't you. Yes, all nations most probably meddle. I was focusing on these who have, or rather, have more rather than those who have less.

Funny, you and some others, have been insulting the USA, exactly because of their generous and prompt response. Its sickening. SHEESH

Ahh, where exactly did I insult America? Was it when I said, "Kudos to America and the many other nations and organizations who have responded to Haiti's dire need." because I included "other nations and organizations"? Or was it when I said, "Actually, I have a lot of respect for America."?

Really, and poor nations dont meddle?

I didn't say that poor nations don't meddle nor give aid. I did not say a lot of things.

I admit other countries have helped. But you admit they have helped nothing on a scale like the US.

Well, there is nothing to "admit" since those are the facts. You first began by belittling the aid offered by other countries by say they don't count. My point has always been that credit should be given to all great or small for their responses to help Haiti. You on the other hand seemed fixated on belittling others because they cannot match America's contributions.

does the US both aid and meddle?

Umm, well yes it does as do most if not all rich nations worldwide. It's called politics.

Of course we know who is really insecure here. YOU!

Ha! no flies on you.
