Posted in: Nissan says it will make next-generation EV batteries by 2028 See in context

Unless EVs are charged solely with "renewable" energy sources(solar, wind, geothermal, atomic) then it's all pretend.

Oh, and BTW the insurance rates are climbing rapidly due to the significantly higher costs of repair/replacement of the EV/hybrid vehicles. A relatively minor fender-bender is expensive enough for the vehicle to be considered a total loss(cost of repair exceeds the resale value). Good luck with that.

Bumbling Biden's gifting previously frozen Iranian assets (money) to the extremist mullahs is fueling the Iranian & Hezbolla wackos who have for decades been threatening to annihilate Israel.

Posted in: Austria likely to be largely ice-free within 45 years as glaciers recede quickly, experts say See in context

"likely to be" is just a variant of may, might, and could, and also is sufficiently vague to be disregarded as more of the usual climate-alarmism that has been repeated in nearly every topic.

And the fact that Earth has been in an interglacial period for tens of thousands of years indeed makes their "prediction" moot.

Posted in: Austria likely to be largely ice-free within 45 years as glaciers recede quickly, experts say See in context

May, could, and might are words to express possibility, but not probability.

In case the experts are unaware, the Earth is/has been in an interglacial period of the current Ice Age for quite a long time. So, yes, glaciers have been retreating for essentially ALL of human history.

His stance is correct. Though he personally disagrees with abortion except for the limited circumstances, it is NOT a federal issue!

The USA is a Constitutional Republic and each State has its own Constitution and laws, the system of limited government originally formed. So, yes it's up to the States to decide democratically as with any other issue /prohibitions.

Because "climate" according to the highly educated Greta...

The reality is that all three cases are utter nonsensical, hysterical fear mongering, and the most pathetic part is that courts are actually entertaining such cases. Yes, the sovietization of the EU. by undemocratic dictat.

Posted in: Tesla sales tumble nearly 9% as competition heats up and demand for EVs slows See in context

"The C02 footprint is less than an ICE, so you know, tradeoffs."

That's totally false. The CO2 footprint of ALL vehicles has to include the mining, refinement, and the production of ALL components of the vehicles. This fact gives EVs an outsized footprint due to extensive mining required to produce the massive batteries which also have a relatively short useful life.

The consumer market demand for EVs is weak because of the reliability issues and inconveniences of charging, not to mention the sharply decreased performance in cold conditions.

The Hertz rent-a-car corporation learned a very expensive, painful lesson for investing in a fleet of EVs. Customers DID NOT WANT THEM and were sometimes forced to accept one although they had NOT reserved an EV. The company had to ditch the entire EV fleet (into an already very soft resale market) at Fire Sale prices. It was so bad that the CEO resigned over his foolhardy decision to invest in EVs. Reality bites.

Posted in: Maintenance staff shortage could clip aviation industry's wings See in context

I worked in the aircraft maintenance industry for over 12 years.

It's a very specialized field, and there is tremendous pressure to rapidly perform all maintenance and repair ASAP. But there is also the tremendous responsibility to do all the work properly, in accordance with the prescribed procedures as even the smallest job can have serious safety related effects.

Underqualified technicians abound for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is DEI. I've seen seriously substandard work done that was fortunately identified by competent QA inspectors who then were negatively impacted by managers who were more interested in being politically correct than in ensuring safety of flight.

Unless absolutely necessary, I avoid air travel.

Posted in: Nara considers increasing number of deer that can be killed each year See in context

Since the only natural predator of the deer(Japanese wolf) was hunted to extinction by order of the government, the populations of both the deer and wild boar have gone unchecked. The decreasing numbers of licensed hunters has also contributed to over-populations. The hunting needs to be allowed to increase in order to allow the population of deer and boar to be healthier and to reduce the damage to agriculture and the forests.

Yes, it's similar to an aircraft carrier LAUNCH (editor sleeping on the job?) which I've experienced several times (C-2, S-3, E-2C, EA-6B), and I'm glad I rode the Do-Donpa before it was closed. The instructions clearly stated to NOT lean forward prior to "launch".

The worst catapult launch I experienced was the rear-facing seating on the C-2.

I hope they find a solution and re-open the coaster.

The "incorrect information about marijuana" part made me chuckle.

It's correct that pot is illegal in Japan, but the fact is that it's not harmful and has medicinal value, especially with those who suffer chronic pain, certain neurological disorders, and others.

Posted in: Japan society on transgender issues to drop 'disorder' from name See in context

Same-sex gay and lesbian people are just subtypes of transgenderism, according to GLAAD, a pro-transgender group that formerly pushed for civic acceptance of homosexuality.

The push to convert homosexuality into transgenderism threatens the political and civic status of the gay and lesbian communities — and also widens the growing splits within the overall population of sexual minorities that mostly vote for the Democratic Party.

The subordination of gays and lesbians to the very different — but far more aggressive — transgender movement is urged in the “11th Edition” of language instructions for journalists promoted by the Hollywood-backed and funded GLAAD advocacy group.
