I wonder if Abe told Prince William about the appalling way the Japanese government handled the animal crisis in the wake of the disaster. I bet not.

After losing so much, people couldn't even have their pets with them in shelters. Despicable.

Respect.

Now, if only those lording it over Kasumigaseki could have such common sense...

Let's pretend these atrocities never happened and Japan is some kind of superior state, especially amongst its Asian peers.

Well, Japan, you're not. You have blood on your hands too and the more these right-wing clowns dig their heels in the more the international community will question what Japan is trying to hide.

warispeace Excellent point but probably, sadly, lost on most. Of course the other problem with chocolate is that most of it that will be purchased for Valentine's Day will be milk chocolate, made from the suffering of millions of cows.

Happy Valentine's Day!!! Now, let me run and hide from the madness.

Abe's a fool.

Being modest and burying your head in the sand are two different things.

Oh, prrrrease!

Goto, unlike 99% of his compatriots, was someone trying to make this world a better place (goodness knows it needs it) and he gets criticized!

The apathy in this country is palpable. It is a most unattractive side of Japanese people. If these naysayers had a cracker put under them to do the kind of good Goto was trying to do we would see a kinder world.

May his soul rest in peace.

Not surprised. It's an aquarium after all, a place of abuse and cruelty.

ABUSEment parks/aqua prisons, where marine creatures are forced to do stupid tricks for even stupider people, should be relegated to the past where they belong.

Sadly, apathetic Japan still embraces these vile facilities.

Japan's whaling program is farcical. The whole world knows it and Japan knows it.

This is all about pride and digging one's heels in. In regards to this issue I always envisage a child (Japan) spitting the dummy in the sandpit and packing up its bucket and shovel and going home to mummy because it won't play fair. Japan does not know how to play fair in this case.

Japan, stop raping the oceans. Your whaling program is part of your never-ending appetite for "resources" from the ocean. Yet the oceans are dying and you refuse to listen.

No oceans, no planet. It's not rocket science.

Saddened to wake to the news that 2 hostages have been killed. And saddened to see how the face of Australia is changing. It is not the same place I was born and raised in.

Good move. In this day and age people still think milk is good for them! We are not designed to drink it. We are not only the only species to drink milk beyond infancy but the only one to drink the milk of another species. Milk is designed for the young of the animal that produces it.

We have been duped by the dairy industry. We don't need milk. In fact, it's bad for us.

Not to say anything about the atrocious cruelty in the dairy industry.

Wonderful. It's truly beautiful,

As for Japanese food getting on the list, it's about the most boring food on the planet and it comes at the huge expense of destroying the world's oceans. I couldn't believe it when it made it.

Now, Japan's arts and crafts is an entirely different matter.

I remember this Joji Morishita clown once saying whales are the cockroaches of the sea. The only cockroach here is him...and his cronies.

Come to think of it, it's offensive to cockroaches to liken them to him.

Japan's arrogance on this issue never ceases to amaze me. It must stop raping the oceans.

No oceans, no planet. No planet, no future. It's not rocket science.

Inane.

But not as bad as the award that goes to the person who looks best in fur (nobody looks good wearing a dead animal). Ryoko Yonekura won that one year. Idiocy.

They also have one for who looks good in jeans.

Welcome to Japan!

Japan knows no end when it comes to destroying the world's oceans.

It won't be happy until the last tuna, dolphin, whale and all other marine "resources" have been plucked from the ocean.

For as long as pet shops remain lucrative these kind of incidents will continue. People don't stop to think where "kawaii" animals sitting in pet shop windows come from.

The truth is they come from breeders and puppy mills - abusive, cruel and driven by profits and not, absolutely not, animal welfare.

Just like the Taiji dolphin capture and slaughter will continue while people blindly support aquariums, so too will the despicable pet shop industry.

Support your local animal shelter.
